"Brooking Park was a nice facility. It was clean and up to date. The staff was nice, but not particularly helpful because when I went to pick my sister up (they knew what day I was going to pick her up), they didn't have any of the paperwork ready for her release. I called ahead and told them and asked, "What time can I pick her up?" They said anytime. So, I told them I would be there in an hour to an hour and a half, but even with all of this, they still did not have the paperwork ready. So, I was waiting and I said, "I'm going to go eat lunch and come back." Still, they didn't have the paperwork ready. Finally, I just took her and brought her home. My sister's room was OK. It wasn't anything fancy. She had a TV and a comfortable chair. The bed was kind of an old hospital bed, but she had a dresser and a nightstand. That was pretty much it. The menu looked really good and my sister didn't complain about the food. She said she liked it."

"The guy who gave us the tour of Brentmoor was excellent. It was a very nice community. Everything was fine. You can go to their independent living and then move into assisted living, so it's perfect that way. The living atmosphere was perfect. The only issue was that my mom is not sure she has enough money because it is pricey. Other than that, it was excellent. The room was perfect. There was enough room. The residents welcomed my mom, which was nice. We were there during their mealtime. Everything was nice; she enjoyed the food. My mom liked the place. Everything was clean. The lobby and the reception were nice. They have entertainment for the residents on certain days. They had a TV room, a library, and a room where they can play games and cards. They also have an exercise area where they have equipment set up. They have a shuttle that takes them to church and to the grocery store."

"Sunrise of Des Peres was beautiful. I would love to live there myself and it had a lot of what I like. It sits on top of a hill, but it's kind of off by itself, so you can actually see the main drag of Manchester Road. It makes you feel like you're at home, which I was very excited about. They have a great library as soon as you walk in, and a beautiful wraparound porch with rocking chairs. They present the food in a beautiful way on beautiful, colorful plates. They give the memory care patients a choice of two plates. Simple choices are the best, and the food looked very healthy, appetizing, and is served in an open air atmosphere. The apartment I saw had a little bulletin board outside the door that introduces newcomers to that person without them actually going in, so you get to know the person before you actually meet them. They have two people to a room, one by the door and one on the other side. In the middle is a bathroom and you have lots of space for a visitor without necessarily disrupting your roommate. It was very comfortable even though it was small. You cAN personalize it to your liking pretty easily, and make it a home for your family member at little to no cost."

"My mother will do respite care here for the fourth time. I pretty much liked everything about it. The atmosphere as soon as I walked in the door, I just knew it felt homey. I liked the activities that they did and the interaction. She went on the tour with me and they made her feel welcome. I fell in love with the staff. While I was touring, she sat with some of the other residents and she was comfortable there. She ate all her food there. The place was very clean and it smelled clean. It was just like walking in The Hilton."

"I went to Clarendale Clayton. I saw the interiors, a number of different apartments or suites, a fitness area, and the restaurants. I got a pretty complete tour of the facility. The location was very good. It's almost brand new, so it's very nice. The staff was great and answered all our questions. They had a theater where they show films and some nice lounge areas. It was pretty expensive for me though. I didn't think it was gonna be realistic for me to live there. It's an excellent facility, but it's a high-rise, and from my point of view, where it's located, it's not really conducive to walking out into a neighborhood or to a park or something like that. There's a parking garage, but I like having my car outside the door where I can just walk out without going on an elevator. They do have a valet, but they cost money, too."

"My wife doesn't see very well and The Mary Culver Home is designed only for visually impaired women, and they've been in business for 150 years, so I like it. It's a small home. It only got 27 private rooms, so she gets a lot of one-on-one attention and they're very good. They are very attentive towards her and I would highly recommend anybody if their spouse is visually impaired, because that's the one requirement to get in. I like the fact that the patient to staff ratio was like 7 to 1 and the food's good. My wife seems to enjoy the food and they do activities with them all the time. So, they try to get them involved in various activities and I'm pleased. The rooms are small, but they're all private, and they have a private bathroom in them. It's plenty and big enough to get around. I think the home was built in 1966, I believe, so it is an older home, but it's well-maintained. They have a dining area and they kind of wait on them like it's a restaurant. They'll come up there and take their order, and whatever they want, they'll cook it for them. They have exercise classes. They do tours of different countries and stuff like that. They listen to those kinds of tapes and then discuss them. The other day when I was there, they were doing Martin Luther King's history and life. So, they do something like that all the time for them."

"I liked quite a few things the best about Sunrise of Webster Groves. It seemed to have very adequate staffing, friendly staffing, and caring staffing. The residents all seemed happy. I talked to several of them when they invited me in to see their apartment. The place looked happy. It was light. It was open and they had large corridors. They had a lot of seating areas. I just really liked it. When we toured, different residents would come up to whatever staff member was with me needing assistance, and they would very quickly either help them or get someone to help them. They were also very knowledgeable and had a very good attitude. They were very positive. They had a chapel, different prayer services at different times, an art room, and a little gym."

"I liked everything about The Lumiere of Chesterfield. They had a private chef who worked with the people who lived there to get on the menu what they preferred to eat according to their diet. A lot of these people are diabetics and when they go to another facility, they don't care what they eat, they just put garbage on the menu. This private chef makes a world of difference. They have high ceilings and big, spacious rooms. It's much more spacious than a lot of the facilities I've seen. It makes it feel much more luxurious and much more like home."

"Kingsland Walk Senior Living was small. It was like a three-story unit. They had a lot of different amenities. As far as housekeeping, they had a big dining room downstairs on the first floor, and it had a washer and dryer at the end of each floor. They had a rec room, exercise room, just a lot of things that I really liked, but I couldn't afford it. It was out of my budget. The staff was very good and very accommodating. They had invited me to stay for lunch, but I couldn't because I had another engagement. The dining facility was really nice."

"Everything at Sunrise of Chesterfield was good. We put a $1,000 deposit down, but it's further away than where my father is now so we changed our minds. This place was cheaper and appeared to be a lot better. The problem is, they still haven't returned my $1,000, and it's been about three weeks now. The staff was very accommodating and very nice. I liked the birds, saltwater aquarium, and the friendliness of the staff. The rooms were nice, too. "

"My mom is at St. Louis Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care. The place is excellent. The staff is very helpful and very caring. They were patient with us and made sure that my mother felt comfortable in her transition. So we were worried about that, but we didn't have to worry about that with them. They made her feel comfortable and they made us feel comfortable and the workers are happy people. The food is also excellent. We've only been there for a couple of weeks, but every time we've popped by to visit our mother we never notice any problem. Everything is just like, advertised, you know, a lot of the other places you pop in, they say they got activity and different stuff. And if you pop in, you don't see it. But at this one, you can pop in any time and see that the seniors are actively doing what they want. If my mother wants to sit in the chair, she sits in the chair, If she wants to do puzzles, they let them do what they want to do. What's amazing about it is it's the most affordable facility we looked at. So affordability is good."

"We toured Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The price is probably out of our reach because it's so expensive and you have to buy in like a couple hundred thousand dollars. We didn't see apartments; we just got an overall view. We walked around the common areas and the restaurants. They have a library and a sewing room. We were impressed by most of that. If we follow up, we were going to see an apartment on the next visit. However, everything was immaculate. We didn't meet a lot of staff. We met the woman who gave us the tour, and some residents walked by and exchanged pleasantries with us, but there wasn't a lot of interaction. The person was very professional. We walked around outside, and it was gorgeous. They have villas, garages, a basement, and everything, and that's what we were interested in. We like all the workout areas. They have a sewing room with lots of long tables and stuff where I could continue to take my stuff and quilt. So that impressed me, of course. Also, they have a path you can walk, and it's like a mile path."

"I toured this facility. The facility is clean and well maintained. There seems to be a lot of activities for the residents. The reason why I didn’t give 5 stars is because the person giving me the tour told me they do not use agency (temp) staff when I know for a fact they do. That is my only complaint."

"I toured the Fields of Florissant. The community is very nice. The staff and the residents there were friendly. I did not get to see a lot of the facility, just when I walked into the dining area and the recreation area. I saw two of the rooms, the studio apartment and the one-bedroom apartment. Both apartments were very nice. The bathrooms were large and spacious. I like the one-bedroom apartment for my mom. Everything there was pretty much updated. I liked that they offered a microwave, a refrigerator, and a sink area inside each facility. It was a large facility, and the entire place seemed very clean. She introduced me to the activities director and said that she was very creative and always came up with different activities for them to do. It was Halloween-themed at the time, and there were activities around that."
