Troy is a city in the northern suburbs of Detroit that’s home to roughly 13,000 people aged 65 and over. This senior population loves the area for its vibrant arts and culture, valuable programs and high-class shopping. One of Troy’s most famous spots is the Somerset Collection, a super-luxury mall that includes tons of shopping options for older adults. In order to enrich lives, the city offers classes and programs centered around arts and crafts, games, and fitness as well as a computer lab where seniors can learn to use all types of new technologies. Excursions to locations throughout the state are available, including the yearly Mackinac Island Grand Experience.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
