HarborChase of Olney was nice. I liked the location. I liked the fact that it sits back off of Georgia Avenue. It's not right on the street. I did feel, however, that I was not given a lot of attention like I was in some of the other locations I went to. The lady was nice and everything, but I just felt like she didn't give me everything I needed to know, particularly when it came to the finances. She handed me a brochure that had the information in it, but she didn't discuss it with me. So that kind of put me in a not good place with them. The exterior backs up on county property, which I like because there would be no building in proximity to the county. The one-bedroom unit was small, and I didn't like the layout. It's not pleasing. I've got a flyer on Sunday Brunch and another flyer on clinical services offered by HarborChase. The executive director really didn't seem like she was enamored of my interest in their facility. You would have thought she would have been a little more enthusiastic and would have asked me a few more questions. I just got the sense that she wasn't interested in giving me the information I needed, and I thought they were expensive. I've got something about their core values, about the food, and then mild memory care programs, and that was it. It wasn't as thorough as the other places.

It is lovely. The facility is really good. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. The studio was lovely. They both had a small kitchen facility, but we liked the one bedroom, just to have that extra space. We viewed the physical therapy room, activities room, and dining room. Everything was so pretty and people were so friendly. I was impressed by that. They have a nice screened-in porch and there's a nature preserve behind, which was a nice feature, to have those trees behind you and then a walkway all around the place. They all seemed genuinely friendly. We saw interactions between staff and residents there, and they were all positive. My son and daughter-in-law ate lunch there and talked with three of the residents who were all very positive about the place and happy living there. They like the food.

We choose here because we felt that the residents were more in line with where my mother is at this time, they were more on her level. It was a brand new place and there were options in choosing what room she wanted. It was bright and clean, we just felt very comfortable there. My mother and brother thought the food was great, they really liked it. Mom participated in a group coffee activity that was in the morning, they had chair yoga and that sort of exercise class when we were there. We saw in the activities room that the residents were doing some sort of art project. We love the fact that they have a movie theater that we could reserve for family nights. They had spaces where if we wanted to have a party for mom, we can bring friends over and there'll be a space available to do that. It just seemed very welcoming and warm. It just seemed like home. They seemed very comfortable, warm, and welcoming and the staffs are very friendly and accommodating. And it seemed to be a good fit for what we needed from my mom.
