My family member has been at Arbor Place for about 6 months and I am very happy with the quality of care provided by the excellent staff. The ratio of caregivers to residents is unsurpassed and there is a genuine effort to provide individualized care to each resident. The staff communicates well with families and provides updates and occasional photos in between visits. I was anxious before placing my family member in a memory care facility, but I can honestly say that I sleep well at night knowing she is in a caring and highly professional place.
What you can do with Caring
About Arbor Place Dementia Care in Rockville, Maryland
CUSTOM DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR DEMENTIA CARE
Founded by a geriatric psychiatrist, and purpose-built for dementia care, Arbor Place is situated on beautifully landscaped acreage which backs up to protected green space. Unlike many assisted living facilities with locked memory care units that dont allow residents to get outside or even socialize, at Arbor Place, the entire building and grounds are secure yet accessible.
With the constant support of our compassionate care team, residents enjoy an outdoor walking path, gardens, and even a putting green. Some residents participate in gardening --growing herbs and vegetables. We find that getting outside does wonders to boost our residents spirits.
By architectural design, our intimate setting creates a safe and interactive experience which provides the highest standard of care. In the central living room with skylights, residents participate in different activities from singing, art, and interactive games along with socialization and companionship to support changing needs throughout the day. Surrounded by laughter, sunlight, and cognitively engaging activities, Arbor Place residents are comfortable, relaxed and happy. In short, they feel at home.
Each of our 16 residents has a private room. The unintrusive use of closed-circuit television enables residents to safely spend time in their room. At the same time, our team can visually identify needs right in the moment even when a resident is unable to ask for help. We also use fall alert technology to ensure rapid response. Safety is a top priority at Arbor Place.
UNPARALLELED CARE
From the minute you walk into Arbor Place, youll sense the warm and caring community. You will not see people sitting alone unattended in wheelchairs. Nor will you witness uninvolved, disinterested staff on their phones, ignoring the residents. At Arbor Place, our residents and staff really are an extended family.
With the highest caregiver to staff ratio youll find anywhere, and a geriatric psychiatrist as our founder, you can feel confident that your family member is getting the attention they need at the most vulnerable time of their life. We believe in treating our residents as well as our staff like family. Thats why we have the lowest turnover youll find. Some members of our team have been at Arbor Place for over 20 years.
Our dedicated, professionally trained team, led by experienced and collaborative nursing professionals supports the medical and emotional needs of our residents. Unlike other memory care and assisted living facilities, at Arbor Place we never ask families to hire private duty aides. Instead, we provide the individualized care for each of our residents. From bathing, incontinence support, dressing, and assistance with dining to warm friendly companionship, our team ensures we meet each of our residents individual wishes and needs.
PERSONALIZED ATTENTION
At Arbor Place, there is no one-size fits all. From our experience, we know that individually tailored support is essential to engage residents in a meaningful quality of life. While we encourage residents to participate in activities, we understand that the brain requires quiet time. So, whether its reading quietly with a member of our team or reminiscing over family photo albums in private, we honor their individuality and dignity. Our team helps each member of our community make the most their cognitive capacity by creating rich, stimulating experiences specific to their interests. For people with memory issues, it is the moment that means something. We make each moment count.
DEEP DEMENTIA EXPERTISE
At Arbor Place, we are 100% dedicated to dementia with the medical staff and knowledge to care for individuals with memory loss through the end of life. We possess deep experience with many neurodegenerative disease processes including Alzeheimers, Parkinsons and other challenges with dementia. We know how to support these with a care first, behavioral-focused approach.
IN-HOUSE MEDICAL VISITS
Residents receive most medical services in-house. Yes, were talking house calls! Medical providers including primary care, podiatry, dentistry, dermatology, audiology, physical and occupational therapy, speech language therapy, and laboratory services come to Arbor Place, making medical care convenient for residents and their families. We even have on site x-ray capabilities. And, unlike most other group homes or even large, assisted living facilities, we provide aging in place with dignity as the disease progresses, including gentle palliative care and on-site hospice through end of life.
FAMILY-OWNED
As a family-owned community, we are care driven, not corporate profit driven. We put our residents needs first and accommodate special requests more readily than larger, bottom-line focused corporations. Whether its a special meal, a newspaper subscription, or a family celebration, we recognize that little things mean a lot.
Having a family member with dementia is difficult enough without worrying about large upcharges. Thats why, at Arbor Place, youll pay one rate which covers housing, furniture, meals and snacks, nursing support, and ALL care. Well never ask you to hire additional staff and we wont charge you more for things like increased medication administration, dining help, dress or bathing, or incontinence assistance.
HOME-COOKED, DELICIOUS MEALS
Our dining team takes great pride in cooking delicious food, as well as catering to individual dietary needs and taste preferences. Everything is made fresh daily in our home style kitchen. We even use herbs and vegetables grown right in our own garden! And you wont hear the clang of cafeteria trays. The dining team provides full table service as well as in-room dining, when requested. Special requests? No problem.
FAMILY SUPPORT
Youre busy, we get it. Thats why we offer unlimited visiting hours. Come when you want, stay as long as you want. Need something? Just ask. We are here to answer questions, provide information and offer support when you need us.
When your family member lives at Arbor Place, you are family. We provide the care they require and the support you need.

My Mom was at Arbor Place for the last year of her life. The caregivers, the care, the facility itself —— all were phenomenal. The caregivers were gentle, patient and giving. Arbor Place not only made my mother’s life infinitely better, but it also provided peace and relief for my sister and myself. Frankly, I can’t say enough.

Arbor Place is a small and intimate setting with a high ratio of quality staff to residents. It is family owned and operated, not part of a large corporation with numerous facilities focused on economies of scale and cost-cutting measures at each turn -- which seems to be the norm these days. My father spent the last couple months of his life at Arbor Place. The team was fully engaged, empathetic, and caring. They showed him respect and dignity. Arbor Place is spotless. It was the only memory care facility we visited that did not 'smell' like an assisted living center. As soon as you open the door it exudes warmth -- the space and the people that make it so special.

My mother lived at Arbor Place for 2.5 years before passing away and I am so grateful for the care and love she received during that time. What makes the difference at Arbor Place is the staff. The staff:resident ratio is higher than any other facility I have ever seen, and the staff become members of your own family, as you and your loved one become members of the Arbor Place family. (The use of the word "facility" seems wrong when applied to AP -- it is truly much more like a home.) I know that my mother was truly loved and was never alone. The care provided to my mother was excellent as well as compassionate, and the little things they always did (i.e., having her wear her favorite jewelry and making sure she always had her lipstick on, sitting at the piano with her, welcoming her ideas to enhance AP) weren't so little to us -- they allowed her to remain the person she was even as she declined. AP staff treated all of the residents with respect and dignity, and went out of their way to keep everyone engaged (to the extent they wanted) in ways that interested them. The care exhibited by the staff was truly astounding -- there is a culture of mutual respect and dignity throughout, and of family. Activities included on-going learning, joyful singing, family-style meals (always home-cooked), and a level of attentiveness that ensures no one is alone. There was a beautiful backyard to enjoy with flowers and vegetables, walkways and a putting green, and when the weather was nice, some of the daily activities were held outside. Dementia is a horrible disease, but to the extent it can be made easier, it was made easier through the support both my mother and my family received.

Arbor Place Leadership and Staff are consistently excellent in the approach to their community- residents and families. They are highly skilled in the care of individuals with cognitive loss regardless of severity. They are kind, caring, and loving with residents and always respectful of individual needs. Preservation of dignity and function is clearly a priority. Communication with family and friends is superb. Staff are open, warm and always happy to interact with families and friends. Staff pays great attention to medical and emotional concerns and is skilled in identifying problems early and effectively. There is a consistency in staffing that is reassuring and makes for the high quality of care. It is clear that each staff knows my parent well. The facility is very clean, the rooms are bright and warm. The outdoor area is lovely and welcoming as is the main living room/eating area. The care taken in the management through the pandemic has been stellar. I was apprehensive about a dementia care facility for my parent. Without doubt, I feel that the care provided at Arbor Place resulted in improvement in my parent's overall wellbeing, and in turn that of our family. I feel very fortunate to have found Arbor Place.

Arbor Place only took 16 residents. The place was very nice, they had outside facility for walking. Everything was on one floor but I thought it would be too confining with the 16 residents there. The residents that I saw probably had strokes and when you were in a bigger place, they had more facility. Nonetheless, it looked lovely and it was a big ranch house. Each wing had 8 residents and in the middle was the living room and dining area. When I went there, the residents were singing. Most of them were women and they were knitting. But I thought my husband would be unhappy there. This was a really personal situation, but I did not like that the owner called me on three different occasions. He was a psychiatrist and it made me feel like he was desperate.
