Nursing Home Communities in Sandy Spring, MD

"My sister is in Bel Pre Health & Rehab Center. They hardly are allowing anybody in the building, so I haven't had a tour of it or anything. You're allowed to go as far as the living room, that's it. It's rated 5/5 by Medicare, so it must be good. I haven't been worried. We've gotten calls from different people and I've met a couple of them briefly. The activities director is a very enthusiastic, pleasant person who enjoys working with challenging people like my sister who has a mental illness. The billing office has been right on top of everything. I got my guardianship papers and other things turned in very quickly. It was all taken care of and they're arranging for her to get Medicaid to continue her stay there. They've been doing everything they can. It's very nice. It didn't have any odor whatsoever. I didn't notice any smell at all. Everything has gone very well. If she has to stay there longer, it's OK with us. Everybody I talked to has been excellent on the phone. I have had no concerns at all. She said the food is delicious. The living room and the entrance area are very neat and clean. Everything seems fine. I have no issues whatsoever. The only thing I have had any trouble with at all (not really trouble) is the people are so busy, that they don't always answer the phone, but I've found that to be true in lots of places where she's been. I discovered the time to talk to people is later in the afternoon when everybody is finished with most of the hard work of the day. I got everybody I want to talk to one after the other when I called at that time."

"I was at Genesis Layhill Center for about 20 days after a hospital event. I was in a single room, which was quite pleasant, well furnished, and private with a TV and a bathroom. The food was OK. It had a very good, skilled, and very caring nursing staff and excellent physical and respiratory therapy. "

"My stepmother is in this facility now for about eight months. She has exceptional needs including breathing assistance and feeding tube. when she first arrived she was enrolled in various types of therapy. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. I cannot say enough great things about the therapists and the therapy staffing. They are attentive, patient, personable and interactive. They really care about my step mom and make a point of interacting with her even when she's not scheduled for therapy. After a period of time, the insurance company determined that while she'd made improvements, they were not significant enough to continue the therapy. This meant that she needed to stay in the facility, hopefully qualifying under medicaid and would no longer get the various forms of therapy. The nursing staff is excellent. I have had loved ones in nursing facilities where the staff doesn't care bit this is NOT one of them. Every single person who comes into contact with my stepmom is pleasant, patient, accommodating, and has a great attitude. The administration went the extra mile to help us wade through the harrowing experience of applying for medicaid. they held family meetings about every three months to update us about everything concerning my stepmom and to allow us as a family to ask any questions. Usually there's be a social worker there as well. I think this is one of the best nursing homes and rehab centers I've ever encountered (and there've been more than a few. My mother was ill for 20 years and often needed nursing home/rehab care). I did my research on this facility and they got similar reviews elsewhere which informed my decision. They are also excellent for patients needing respiratory care and/or feeding tube care. "

"My mother was at Oak Manor Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. They provided the meals and they took care of her. The front staff is very welcoming. There are certain staff there that are wonderful, and then there are some staff that are not that wonderful. I would go visit my mother every day, and I would have to say they kept the facility clean, and they took very seriously the COVID checks like you get checked every three days for COVID before entering the facility. They were very understanding about what we were going through with my mother. They're sympathetic. I was also so happy with the room my mother was in. The room was a two-people room. When she first got there, she had a roommate and then the roommate left, and then she got a roommate later on. Even though my mother was long-term care, the roommate that she had was like a rehab roommate, so they weren't there too long. She had a private room and that way the family could come visit because they knew my mother had like six months to live. I never ate there. Their menu was not that extensive. But the good thing is that the residents always had an option if they didn't want what was on the menu. They could get like a grilled cheese sandwich or something else. The place was very clean, too."

"I was doing rehab at Springbrook Adventist, and it was very good as well as the staff. The food is OK. The room was of medium size, but it was OK. There were activities, but she was busy working on therapies and getting out of it. I would recommend the community. "

"My husband has been at Manor Care for over two weeks. The therapy team has been very professional, friendly, and helpful. I have seen great strides over just a short period of time. I can't speak for all of the nursing staff but on the wing where my husband lives, the staff has been kind, prompt in responding to requests and very patient in dealing with a patient who, at times, has not been the most cooperative. AJ, who I believe has the title of facilities director, could not have been more helpful and our social worker, Jay, was an absolute joy to work with. Though the travel distance for me was horrendous (and I have been with my husband everyday), I would not have traded a closer facility if it meant a lower level of care."

"Our dad recently spent three weeks at Manor Care/ProMedica Silver Spring, and we are grateful for the kind and attentive care that he received. While all of the staff treated him well, we were especially impressed and grateful to nurses Shaye and Ruth as well as Director of Nursing Mr. Hannock, physical therapists Raymond and Keith, and dietician Krista. "My mom has been at Arcola Rehab Center off & on for two years. Every dept. has been wonderful for her. The only complaint my mom would have is she does'nt get the tv channels that she likes. "

"I have been a rehab patient twice at Hebrew Home and both times I was more than satisfied. The rehab for knee replacement was excellent, but the treatment I received later, for another, systemic, disease was remarkable. The nurses were consistently attentive, kind and helpful. The food was good for an institution. The rooms are beautiful: clean, roomy, and convenient. Ample diversions are available (even a painting session!). I would not hesitate to go there again should it be necessary. "

"Like any other place that does this, or for that matter like a garden or a relationship or a lived life, what you get out of it is directly connectable to what you put into it. I had a loved one there for a few weeks and visited nearly every single day, so I got to see at least snippets of pretty much everything. Breaking news: running a nursing home with a smile on your face is challenging. In being able to show up every day, which obviously not everyone is able to do, I was able to advocate for my family member and build friendly relationships with staff which allowed for better outcomes. My family member was there for rehab. The therapists ranged from excellent (Wes, Lisa) to mediocre depending on the individual. Admin. staff were mixed: good and bad; a pleasant and persistent approach almost always yielded results regardless. Rooms are meh-most are shared, divided by a curtain. Bathrooms are shared by two shared rooms - can get busy. Food appeared to be fairly sad looking; I brought outside food in most days. For a temporary stay, it's more than tolerable while in recovery ... as a long-term option I would look at and encourage comparing with other options."

"I will be moving to Asbury Methodist Village. The staff is very kind, and they seem dedicated. The place looks good and well-kept. They have a lot of amenities that are just lovely. There's a dining room in practically every apartment building. There's a dedicated arboretum. On campus they have a wildlife preserve, walking paths, and a gardening area. They also have a wellness center with an indoor pool and other amenities, such as a gym. They have a cafe, a little store, and other things associated with the concept of wellness. They have all kinds of special interest clubs like dancing and intellectual groups. They offer educational things, and they have lectures. There's a huge theater there."

"My sister is in rehab at Wilson Health Care Center. She's very comfortable where she is, but she has not been there very long. Her room is OK. She likes having people around her all day. The caregivers are OK, but my sister is difficult."

"My visit with Rockville Nursing Home was nothing but satisfactory from start to finish. It was a very clean and welcoming place. They were very informative. I was pleased from the get-go. We had my mother-in-law there for 48 hours before she was placed into the hospital and subsequently died. So, I was able to see her room and her meals. Everything was quite satisfactory. "

"I love the diverse community of Riderwood. It was large and multicultural, and coming from New York, I'm used to that. It's the type of environment that I'm looking for. It certainly has many options for socialization. The sales staff was beyond belief. They were amazing. They certainly were very responsive to the questions that I had and kept in touch with me. Any clarification that I asked for, they willingly provided. The only reason why I'm not going with it at this time is because you are required to put down a significant amount of money for the admission fee, hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's a continuing care community. I was scheduled to go back for an overnight stay, but I had to cancel it because of a family emergency. Certainly, they were a more longstanding community. They were not that old, but it was certainly very comfortable. They had extensive grounds for walking and for you being outside. It was extremely large and I loved that."
