I spent two and a half months in rehab at this facility following brain surgery. I was utterly helpless and bedridden when I arrived, but the nursing staff and physical therapists were very patient and encouraging with me. Especially the physical and occupational therapists, who helped me get back on my feet, with slow and steady progress. I went from bedridden to wheelchair to walker to cane, to walking without any assistance by the time I was discharged. The nursing staff and caretakers were wonderful and caring.

My husband is in Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Wheaton. I don't have any issues. The staff is very attentive and I think he's treated well. They have a lot of activities. They have a calendar that they publish, but he doesn't attend because he's paralyzed on the right side, and he can't get out of bed. He shares a bedroom, and it's very large. They do the floors, and someone comes in and cleans every day. It's near a hospital and a shopping mall. They have a courtyard.

WORST SKILLED NURSING FACILITY EVER! My father was transferred there per Kaiser recommendation and while we were hopeful, I found the premises to be dirty, extremely disorganized, few competent staffpersons or nurses. You can call for hours to check up on your loved one via the only phone number they have on their website and it will ring for a long time, then it sounds as though someone picks up the call and immediately hangs up. They transferred my father to a hospital after a physician checked on him and did not tell me that he had an infection in his leg or that they were transferring him to an emergency room until he was en route. They failed to provide me with the location of the hospital and when I tried to call back as there were two locations for this hospital that were near the facility, the phone rang and rang, multiple hang-ups, then ultimately I got the message "the number you dialed is not in service." The nurses are always annoyed when you ask for their assistance, they are reluctant to assist patients to use portable or in-room toilets, telling them instead to use their diapers, then it takes 25+ minutes before they will come in to change it and clean the patient. My father sat in a urine soaked bed for over an hour. Food sub-standard and options limited. A nurse let me into the therapy room to inspect it, and there where two elderly patients in wheelchairs doing nothing, while the "therapy technician" was in a chair talking on his cell phone. Could help but notice that the sign outside the therapy center said "No Cell Phones Allowed". Using the call button was futile and I wondered if they were even "connected" as we never received a response to pushing it. I didn't see any activities taking place and the halls were empty -- no residents and no staff persons making regular rounds. I would not send my worst enemy to this place, let alone someone I cared about. Trying to get him out of there ASAP!

I was never fond of Manor Care. The care that my loved one is receiving is impeccable. The PT and OT worked really hard with him to get him back on his feet. Nurse Maria, Prudence and Ruth keeps me informed, great nurses. Very impressed. Maria is my Angel. Thanks Manor Care for making a BELIEVER out of me.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!!!!! My father has been there for three weeks and I am not satisfied. They do not answer their phones. I have called up here numerous times. In the instance that I am able to get someone on the phone, they transfer me, and then no one answers the phone. When prompted to speak to the Nursing Director, Facility Manager, Reception Desk, or pretty much anywhere else, no one answers the phones. No one checks their messages, or they do not have a voicemail set up. How am I as a concerned family member supposed to call to find out what is going on with my family. He has vision problems and has asked for assistance during meal times to at least position the food in front of him, and let him know what is being served. They have a problem with this. He has asked to not have to sit in the uncomfortable wheelchair for long periods of time, and they have an issue with assisting with that. Someone contracted Covid while at the facility. I still have not received a call regarding the Covid issue. However, my father received a call on his phone to let him know what the issue is. I received a call in the middle of the night this week to say that they do not have an emergency contact on his account. After midnight, receiving a call requesting this information, that has been given to them several times. Unacceptable. Mixing up the patients because they have the same last name. One being male, one being female. Unacceptable. Not allowing for visitors to come into the facility to see a patient. Unacceptable. Forgetting or losing patients because they have been moved out of their room to do other things in the facility. Unacceptable. I will be moving my father outside of this facility as soon as I can. And I would recommend that if you have someone there, get them sent somewhere else as well. You can’t get better without the proper care and treatment. And I am expecting for my father to get better and come home. So with that in mind, it’s a no for me for Manor Care of Wheaton.

We recently made a request of the staff to help a dear friend be able to watch a very special Annual Event that was scheduled to be streamed on the internet. The regretful thing was that we only gave the staff about 1-1/2 hours to set it all up and make it work. The great thing is that Ishmael and the Activities staff DID make it happen! Ms Stella couldn't have been happier and we cannot thank Ishmael and his staff enough. We are truly grateful and appreciative of their extraordinary effort to help and accomplish what we thought might be a failed attempt on our part. Thank you Ishmael, Deidra, and all the staff there!!!!!

My husband has been at Manor Care for over two weeks. The therapy team has been very professional, friendly, and helpful. I have seen great strides over just a short period of time. I can't speak for all of the nursing staff but on the wing where my husband lives, the staff has been kind, prompt in responding to requests and very patient in dealing with a patient who, at times, has not been the most cooperative. AJ, who I believe has the title of facilities director, could not have been more helpful and our social worker, Jay, was an absolute joy to work with. Though the travel distance for me was horrendous (and I have been with my husband everyday), I would not have traded a closer facility if it meant a lower level of care.

DO NOT send your loved ones to this facility - AWFUL! Unfortunately we had to because my mom has Kaiser and they have a limited number of SNF contracts in suburban Maryland. Unfriendly staff, not helpful whatsoever. Nobody reached out to welcome us or to let me know I needed to complete paperwork - I had to inquire. They initially had the transport company put her in a room with a man - as soon as I inquired, they moved her quickly. I checked the box for them to do laundry and they never did it until the day before mom was leaving. They do not check to see if their diapers are soiled or if they've eaten their food. They don't check to see if they are drinking throughout the day and they all seem dehydrated and lethargic. Mom left with a large bruise on her that they could not explain...and she actually told me they were rough and so mean to her. Very dirty, awful urine smell throughout the building as well.

My father went to Manor Care Health Services-Wheaton. They were friendly and observant. They saw that he was ill, and they transported him immediately to a hospital. What I didn't like about his room was it seemed people have access to patients very easily. They lock the front door, but I could see how anybody would have access to patients where his room was. There was no real security for them. They had 3 meals. The facility was OK, but it wasn't out of the ordinary.

I have been recovering here after a hip replacement surgery. I certainly can't compare it with other rehabilitation facilities, but there are certainly a lot of negatives, and three stars are about right. The place suffers from a great deal of disorganization. Shortly after I was admitted, my room was visited by a dietitian, who inquired about foods I dislike, and I was favorably inclined because of this. However, while frequently my requests are honored, there have been enough instances of me being served something I specifically excluded that I wonder whether everyone in charge of preparing my meals reads that list of dislikes. (And even that was gotten wrong, slightly. I had said "oranges." I was asked "Orange juice?" and responded "Orange anything." Yet it seems to have been recorded as "orange juice" and I have been served orange sherbet, orange slices, and even with that notation, at least once even orange juice!) Tonight I was served coffee and milk as beverages with my dinner, despite telling them that I do not drink either. (A nurse's aide got me some hot water and a tea bag, so I could replace the coffee.) Other evidence of the disorganization: I was originally given one date for my release. Two days before that date, a physical therapist casually remarked my stay had been extended a week. But nobody had told me this! And if it hadn't come up when talking to the PT person, I might never have been told it until too late to tell people who needed to know. The call bells are extraordinarily sensitive, and unlike the ones in the hospital they do not light up or give any indication they've been pressed. So I've had nurse aides come when I didn't intend to call anyone, while on the other hand when I really wanted one it is often a long wait. And some of the nurse aides are very helpful while others are totally indifferent: I've often been served insufficient meals and gotten hungry 2 or 3 hours later. Sometimes a nurse aide will find a snack, and others will simply say "There's nothing I can do." When I came in, I tried to find out whether there were any computers available and was told no, but they had WiFi -- something useless to me because I had no way to bring in my own computer. A few days later, I saw a sheet referring to the "internet cafe" and asked about it, and someone showed me a room with two computers -- which is quite enough, as there aren't a lot of people in here who want to go online, so I've never had to wait for one to become available. Again, disorganization -- why didn't the first person I asked know they were just down the hall from my room? The physical therapists and occupational therapists are helpful, and get a higher rating than the facility as a whole. The food, unlike what one reviewer said, is not uniformly bad. However it is very uneven. One meal can be as good as anything I might get in a restaurant (except for the tea, which is super-low in quality); the next meal might be almost inedible.

Mom went to ManorCare Health Services after having a stroke in the hospital. Their physical therapy staff were very good, and the nursing staff varied in quality. I thought that the receptionist was wonderful, and the staff was responsive when family members made efforts to be on hand and communicate with them. The physical therapy team was excellent as well as the OT team. One nurse in particular was inattentive, and the personal aides were -- in some cases -- insensitive or treated my mom like an object. I believe that the staff’s inattention to her situation contributed to her death on the day that she suffered a heart attack. It has a welcoming atmosphere. The cleanliness, I would rate as average. The quality of life for residents I would rate as fair. The quality of communication with family members was poor.

I had the great misfortunate to break every bone in my my ankle summer of 2013, and needed multiple surgeries. In between the first two, I was sent to this really horrible nursing home to wait several weeks for certain healing that had to occur before I could have the next surgery. Both my patents had previously spent years in nursing homes, so I am not new to the experience. But this place was just the worst. It was visibly filthy in places, many (but not all) of the staff (especially my main nurse, who often got angry at me for no apparent reason), were rude and condescending; they treated me like a trouble-making, much older dementia patient (I was then a 63-yr-old federal employee). I am a diabetic and had some open wounds draining in my foot from the 1st surgery, but despite this, they never cleaned around the wound areas, which they had been admonished to do, lest I develop an infection that could turn gangrenous. I did, in fact, get a foot infection, so my second surgeon rushed me into surgery on an expedited basis, so he could save my foot. The managers and PTs at ManorCare were quite wonderful, but couldn't seem to get the rest of the staff to do their jobs properly. In addition, the OT assigned to me was, well, I'm going to watch my language here, and just say cruel. Once he threw my bathroom supplies on the floor and made me crawl to pick them up. To their credit, I saw management discipline my main nurse, and further understood from management that the perplexingly mean OT was also going to be disciplined. But I was so helpless, and I just couldn't believe anyone would treat someone in their fare like that.

Manor Care Health Services was good. Food tasted OK. The rooms were fine too. They have a lot of staff. Everything else was fine; however, I would give them a 4 because of the communication. I wasn't pleased with communication skills that they have there. The social worker was the only liaison they had, but you need somebody who can spend more time with you to explain all the details. I ended up having to pay $10,000 because I wasn't communicated with properly. Also, they have a lot of foreigners who spoke another language, and sometimes you didn't understand their English. Manor Care was good otherwise. It was OK.

let me stated by saying I am a nurse. with manor care what I find is I had a client that camew home from an extended stay at manorcare he came home on hospice.. his wife felt that she wanted him home with his loved one surrounding him so thats what she did. Manorcare offers a variety of things for the client and the family they offer moral support to the family while the offer comfort support to the client. in my opinion of his condition coming home they did a great job he went from tube feeding to feeding his self in 1 week (because she didn't want to bring him home on a tube) the Therapist who works with them are amazing from Physcial, occupation to speech they all jumped into this situation with both feet trying to get him prepared for his lifes next journey..

My uncle was sent to Manor Care for 3 months of rehab care after a stroke. The family was unaware he was here but were contacted by Manor Care SW to state that he was uninsured and they need to come up with an exit plan for him. When the family attempted to get involved and help they were told that they could not discuss any information due to PHI and HIPA regs. His estranged wife told them she wanted nothing to do with the situation, so the family attempted to get Power of Attorney to handle it. In the meantime, Manor Care proceeded to contact his 89 year old mother to tell them that they were making him a ward of the state and basically dumping him. Manor Care attempted to contact anyone whose name was listed on his visitation log to get them to take him out of the facility, despite the fact no one knew his prognosis or what he'd need to survive in in home care.
On my visits the facility smelled of urine. My uncle's curtain has dried urine and feces on it that were never cleaned on changed. He would be lying in his own urine all day long until someone would demand he'd be changed. The staff that worked with him seemed to have no training on how to provide care for a stroke patient with impaired cognition and mood disorders. Every request to help him would be met with 'he always does that' or 'he always says that'. There was not enough staffing to attend to the patients and ensure their well being. Overall it was a terrible place and he surely would have died there. Be very careful before selecting this location for care.
