Assisted Living Communities in Lawrence, KS

"We liked it here. The two-bedroom apartment was spacious. We liked the idea of having the washer and dryer in it. They had a lot of activities and that's what I was kind of going for. The apartment had a kitchen and a microwave, a full stove, and a full-size refrigerator. We were looking at the independent living and then we could go down and eat our meals downstairs. They had what they call the bistro and the day we were there, they were having prime rib and it smelled delicious. They have a theater room where at night, you can go in and watch movies, and I thought that was unique. They play bingo. You can go down and do cards or work puzzles and they take little trips. There was a bus parked in the parking lot. They had a beautiful courtyard where you could go out and sit. They had awnings or umbrellas over the bench to help you from the sun."

"The Piper Assisted Living and Memory Care was clean. The director was very knowledgeable. She let us meet some of the residents. We got to go into some of the residents' apartments to see how they looked after everybody was moved into them. We got to meet the nurses who were on duty. The director let us meet the head nurse, so she could talk to my wife and get a feel for what kind of condition my wife was in. They were very knowledgeable. We really like The Piper, but they don't accept Medicaid, and they're private. That would have been the one we would have taken if they had taken Medicaid."

"My dad moved into Celebration Villa of Hearthstone East. It feels more like a home community. They have a refrigerator and a microwave. The staff is very nice. The food is very good. They have activities all the time. They have games, movies, and stretching conditioning. They take them for walks. They give them rides to shops. They do all kinds of different things. They have a nice patio area. In the spring, they allow them to plant a garden or whatever."

"I liked Celebration Villa of Hearthstone West. I liked where it was. It was just awfully small, I couldn't get my furniture in there. I thought it was a nice community and my tour went very well. It had everything that I was looking for except the size of the apartment. The dining area was very nice. The staff during the tour was very helpful. They offered to make a few changes that I wanted and if the rooms were a little larger, I would not have hesitated."

"I visited the Garden Villas of Lenexa. I like the layout. I like their use of color. They have lots of activities to choose from. The people I visited who are residents there all have positive things to say about the facility, the staffing, and the meals. It was a very happy, active bunch of people. Some people there need more care, but they're actually in a different part of the building. So, the independent people are not mixed in with those needing more care. The staff all seem very upbeat and interested in helping you find answers if you have questions, or getting the information together to send home with you to look over the activities and different tips outside the facility. They offered to let you come in for two nights and three days and live in one of their room facilities, which they lease out when you have family members come and need a place to stay. You can stay there and go to the meals, and you can go to their activities to see exactly what it's like living there, and that's a valuable thing to offer. They're not your normal senior living. They were very clean. The dining room was interesting. They used more color than most of the facilities do. They had bright turquoise, magenta, and bright gold colors. It was just a very cheerful place, and I have a cat that I would bring in."

"Although my mother was there for just a short time, I can’t say enough positive things about this assisted living facility. They are warm and welcoming. The staff is truly there to meet the needs of the clients. My mother truly enjoyed visiting with all the staff that would come in to see her. I just wish that she could’ve stayed longer!"

"My mother-in-law lived at Presbyterian Manor for just over a year. She came in at the skilled nursing level. After her initial adjustment., Which was carefully and very meaningfully helped along by staff, she settled in nicely. She became more involved in her living arrangements than we had anticipated! She began walking to the dining room and ate more than I had seen her do in a very long time. She became engaged in her favorite activity: bingo, and made friends with other residents and staff. We were grateful to see how well she was doing at Presbyterian Manor. Once she had a diagnosis that would lead to her final demise, the staff stepped up too quickly recommend options for her care and agencies to assist. We followed their lead and were very pleased with the results. Her budget did not allow a private room and the space she shared was quite small. With that said, she chose to remain in her room and watch her TV unless it was time for an activity she wanted to participate in. There would be nothing that I could complain about; they would only be deep appreciation for her care and the many loving signs of affection for my mother-in-law. I anticipate that I and my husband will one day avail ourselves of all that this community has to offer to us!"

"My husband moved to the assisted living community of The Windsor of Lawrence. They have great staff. They're very caring, very kind, and very cooperative. The place is clean and they have laundry service. They also give my husband baths. I would say they're a top facility. His room is fairly large. It has two rooms, and it's pretty nice. He also has plenty of room. I ate there one day, and the food was very good. I would say that their value is probably as good as any of them, as they are all pretty expensive. I went to see other places, but I chose this one because of the appearance of the rooms, and the fact that people seemed very helpful when I went there that day. Overall, I just thought it was good."

"I have visited Monterey Village Senior Living. The gal that that toured me through there was fantastic; and when someone can take time from their tour and say, "Do you have just a moment because a resident wants something?" that means a lot, that their residents have high priority. Those were the kinds of things that I saw when I was there. That meant a lot to me because I knew that if my mom had an issue that she was a higher priority. That was perfectly fine with me to see that they gave that kind of care to their residents. They have been fantastic. If she were to move today, that's where I would take her. It's just that I can't get her to move off center right now. I didn't eat there, but I was there at mealtime. One of the pluses to it was very well laid out and wasn't confusing. What I liked about it was that it seems pretty straightforward. You come out of your room, you look one way, you know where you're going. Look the other way, and you know where you're going. In some of the other places you come out and you couldn't tell which was what. If I'm getting mixed up, I don't know how someone in their 80s would feel coming out of a room, in a new environment being stressed. So, I thought it was well laid out and so easy to get around."

"I lived at Brandon Woods for a whole year in a duplex and loved it. They have a library, swimming pool, and all kinds of activities. I chose it because it was close to my home. I liked all the activities that they had and the swimming pool. I liked it that you could belong to Alvamar Country Club if you went there. They have a wonderful dining room and excellent food. I like the people and the cultural offerings. It's very expensive. They have Bible study, church services, movie every night and all kinds of outings that you can go to. If I had lots of money, I would go right back to Brandon Woods. It has everything I wanted. "

"My mother is in Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living. We chose it mainly because we were very familiar. My aunt had already been there and gotten her care there. We knew what it was like and we met with the people and liked it. It's very clean. It's a good place. The staff was very knowledgeable and very attentive. There are several things available, but she's not participating. Comparing it to others, the price is about normal. She has to have just about everything as far as help, so it's pricey."

"I went to Neuvant House Of Lawrence. The facilities were extremely nice. They have both assisted living and memory care, but they're in two separate units. I didn't specify when I made the appointment, so they took me to both. I didn't spend very much time in the assisted living because I wasn't interested in that facility. It was understaffed. The physical facilities were much better than the other facility. They had five people for 16 residents, and they said that their normal staffing would be 10. If they're fully staffed, they would have 10, and they were not fully staffed. Because they were so short, some of the activities were being done by outside contractors. The food was good, but it's scheduled. There are two-hour windows and they're not available 24/7, but there are some snacks available in-between times. People can schedule haircuts and hair appointments and things like that, so they do have the facilities, but they don't have people there to do it. The people that were there were doing a great job. They were very caring with the people, and were watching the people and could tell when somebody needed assistance and that kind of thing. The people that were there were doing a very good job, but they were understaffed."

"est place ever. Looked at several places in Lawrence to take care of my dad after having a terrible experience at a big nursing home. This is the only place I would put someone. Not a nursing home. The staff tries so hard and the managers care. More staff than any place by far. unfortunately, we had to learn this the hard way because we went to a big fancy place that cost more first, thinking Dad would actually do regular activities. BridgeHaven does karaoke and has barbecues and sits with their clients by the pond and feeds the fish. He has been so happy here. I can't say enough good things about it and everyone there. This is his home. Jerry G."

"Homestead Assisted Living & Memory Care of Eudora was excellent. It would have been my first choice, partly because of its location and I liked it. Their apartment was roomy. The halls were very wide. I didn't see as much of the activities and the people that were involved in. I just saw the room and everything was nice. It's a very new building. It's only four years old and it was still just as sharp and clean as the day it was built. They gave me a great deal of information on what I needed, what I was looking for, and how much it was going to cost and everything was just detailed. They took me through the memory care and I talked to a nice lady there who had just moved into her room. She had been in assisted living before, and she just had some more problems so they moved her over and she seemed just happy with it. We just walked by her door and talked to her and her room was nicely decorated and very pretty."
