"We looked at a new community called Virginia Greens. That was excellent. That was our first choice. The only reason we looked at others was because they were running out of two-bedroom apartments, and we were anxious, so we looked elsewhere. Virginia Greens is over the top, but it was really at the top of our budget. We were more comfortable having a few extra bucks to spend during the month than the whole budget going to the rent. I least liked that the higher up in the building you go, the lower the ceilings get, so by the time you're on the third floor, you're in an eight-foot ceiling, and that felt very cramped to me. It made the room seem very small. It's also $1500 more than the other ones, so it's very pricey. It's a brand-new facility. Every floor has a dedicated common place. On the second floor, there's a billiard room. One of the floors has a common room that's a library. There is another common room that is the music room. They have a theater with a stage. They have a relationship with the Williamsburg Children's Orchestra, and they practice and perform there, so that is very interesting to us. Their gym is phenomenal. You can do your rehab there. It has a sauna. My husband loves the sauna and stuff, so their gym was by far the best one we saw. Their staff was phenomenal. They are a couple, and they live there, which is a good point for them. We were there for lunch, and their food was delicious. It was a great variety. The building was excellent. It's highly fire-rated. They have a unique exhaust system for smoke, which I guess is the big killer in fires. They have a draft that sucks the smoke out of the center."

"I chose The Talbot on Granby for my father because it's close to me and they have beautiful apartments. He's actually in a temporary room or a trial room. There's PT right on the site. They give everybody an emergency necklace. Everybody was very, very friendly. The lady that met with us and took us on the tour was extremely helpful and went above and beyond what she needed to do. They have a walking club, Texas train dominoes, game clubs, and craft clubs. They have veterans get-together once a month. They have a pool, so they have water aerobics. They have a really cute library. I think they're involved with the community as well. When I was there, they were doing a food drive for one of the local food banks. It felt like they wanted to connect with the community. They go to the museums and things like that. His apartment is beautiful. He was very impressed. When I took him, he was very reluctant and once we left, he was very much excited. They impressed him with their facility."

"My friend has moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. We were very pleased with them. They were very courteous and kind. The facility is excellent. It is well-maintained and well-staffed. My friend has a private room there that is very nice. It has all the memory care facilities necessary for her. They have shared rooms, too. They have an outside garden area. They have different activities that would inspire each individual person. There are activities for painting and drawing. There are games, puzzles, and group activities as well. For their individual rooms, they have memory boxes by their door to assist them in finding their own personal rooms. Of course, they have 24-7 care. You can be there and visit within that 24-7. They have lots of different activities for the people there. In terms of the monthly fee, it's comparable to everyone else."

"Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg was very nice. The people were friendly, informative, and willing to show me around. They were known by the residents by their first name. The facilities also seemed very nice, well-kept, well-maintained, and well-equipped. They had a swimming pool, a fitness center, very nice common areas, and nice outdoors with nice screened in porches. It was very appealing."

"My mom will be moving into Edgeworth Park at New Town. I liked that the staff was very friendly and acknowledged us as we were walking through the facility. The programs that they have for people in memory care will be conducive to what my mom needs at this point in her life. They're very active, and my mom needs to be socializing more, so I think that will help her do that. The room that she'll be staying in is just the right size for her. I think she'll be very happy with that. The facility is clean, bright, and inviting. It was a wonderful place for her to go. They were doing karaoke. They have live music that comes in. They have arts and crafts. They have the staff do one-on-one visits with the residents there."

"I went to Commonwealth Senior Living at Gloucester House. This place was a little closer and a little easier to get to, and the hospital was right next door. It's a little older and the residents' rooms were a little smaller than its sister facility, but otherwise it's excellent. The atmosphere is happy, warm, and welcoming. The staff is very dedicated and very knowledgeable."

"The Reserve at Greenbrier was a nice place. My wife and I liked it. The room seemed pretty big, and it was nice. The people seemed nice. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The facility was very clean, and it looked good."

"I toured Willow Creek Gracious Retirement Living. It was great. They had activities, most of the people met in the dining room, and the staff seemed to know the residents' names. The staff that I saw seemed very well. The facility was clean. They had a hair salon for people and laundry facilities."

"I thought Harmony at Oakbrooke was a very calming and pleasant environment. All the people, even the residents, were very kind. Everyone spoke, and they smiled. It was really nice. The community was very clean. Everyone was doing what they normally would do. My sister was with me, so we were walking down the hallway, and it smelled clean. The staff said they sanitize the hallways and the rooms very often because, "We don't want anyone getting sick or catching colds and spreading it, so we make sure everything is clean." I thought that was really, really great."

"The staff was very warm in greeting me. The residents seemed pretty happy. The walking tour was very descriptive, and the tour guide was very efficient in answering all my questions. The bedroom units were very clean and the layouts were very efficient for seniors. I loved the fact that they had balconies and porches. The amenities were great. They had an on-site physical therapist. They had almost a 3-star fine dining restaurant-style dining room. They had games and activities, and they had a nice reading area. They had a shuttle service. They would provide maid services two times a week."

"We toured Harmony at Independence. I felt like I was in an old people's home. I mean, it was because when we walked in there was an ambulance in the front door, and a lot going on in it, sort of not a good feeling. But when we went through the building, you got the feeling that it's not what I was looking for in an independent living where everybody is healthy and getting around you. The staff was very good. She's very sweet. I had talked to her on the phone several times. The facility was clean. I can't say that it wasn't clean. It was just getting the feeling that you were going into a nursing home, and that wasn't what I wanted to feel when I went there. The sizes of the rooms and the layout were very good. The size of the apartments that I looked at were nice. I was looking at a one-bedroom, which is all I need."
