I visited this facility

My initial impression of Edgeworth Park at New Town was that it looked like a hotel. It was a very nice-looking facility on the outside. The common areas were impressive, but we didn't spend a whole lot of time there. Once my father-in-law found out about the price of assisted living, he thought it was too expensive. The rooms were small, sort of like a hotel room. The cleanliness was fine. The staff was fine, too. They were nice people and they were straightforward and honest with us and all of that. They didn't pull a switch like the other facility did. They were friendly and personable. Since it feels like a hotel, it didn't have that homey impression.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother's experience at Edgeworth Park at New Town was terrible. In December 2021, as my sister and I did not live in the area and needed a short-term (one month) place for our mother before moving her to North Carolina, we trusted Edgeworth Park to provide her with safe care and paid for full support in a one-bedroom unit. When we came to pick her up, we were told she had become incontinent and probably had a urinary, so we should take her to the emergency room. Beyond being surprised that the facility had not taken the initiative to have her checked by a doctor, we were horrified to discover she had spent the entire month sleeping on the couch, as the bed was too high for her to climb in unassisted. As a result, her legs were seriously swollen and covered with sores, and she was no longer able to walk. The only comment from the person who was responsible for daily care was that she (the "care" giver) hadn't been at work for several days. We immediately took our mother to the emergency room and moved her to another facility, but she never recovered and died one month later. I still regret that the end of her life involved such neglect and pain. We send a complaint to Edgeworth Park about the experience and received a minimal response, accepting no blame or indicating any change in their policies or procedures. I do regret not filing an official complaint with the state or federal government facilities, but my focus was on dealing with the loss of my mother.

Rooms in memory care are a ok size. Just wish they had a real closet instead of an armoire. The rooms don't seem homey, more like a hotel room feel. Wheel chairs can't fit under the sink. Impossible for residents to brush their teeth or wash their face by themselves. Food is fair some days better than others. Unfortunately in memory care staff don't cut their food up for residents so many just don't eat. Unless they have a personal aid to assist. There are not many activities going on. So the television is used as the main source of recreation. They are often short staffed. Often there are two CNAs which makes it difficult to attend to the personal needs of the residents. Cost has increased and value has diminished.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad moved into Edgeworth Park at New Town. It's been great. The nurses are abundant. I can't walk out of his door and walk down the hall without seeing one, or two of them. They check on him very regularly. They spend time with him. They prod a little bit deeper to make sure that he is having a good day. The community is much smaller. In terms of the whole community, 88 total residents are their cap as opposed to a much bigger place that has thousands of people at different levels of care. So he seems to get a much better level of care there. His apartment is bigger and brighter. The whole facility is very bright and has a lot of sunlight coming in, which is nice. They have a beautiful courtyard area. It's huge. It has a little walking path which he can take his wheelchair around. It has bird feeders, it has flowers, and they let the residents plant stuff if they want. They have little gardens, or herb gardens, or whatever they want to plant, and lots of birds, which he loves. When he goes outside, he's looking into a beautiful courtyard that's very well manicured, and has lots of places to sit, instead of what he was looking at, which was if he went outside to get some air, he was looking at a parking lot. They have a library, they offer all kinds of things during the day, different programs. They have get-togethers every 3:30 pm, just come and chat, and have some time before dinner. They do family nights, I experienced that the other night, and that was just amazing. They put on a great, big buffet. They had nice food, pies, and all kinds of desserts. And they played games afterward, and we can participate. It's clean, it smells nice, and I've never seen any messes left on any of the tables. Everybody's right on top of it. And I see at least four cleaning carts. They have cleaning cards for each one of the wings. So it just seems like they're always out making sure that everything is tidy and kept, and trash is gone. I think the cost is commensurate with the amount of attention and care that he's getting, the facility itself, the food, and the number of activities. I think that it's all commensurate with the amount that we're paying.

I visited this facility

My wife will be moving into Edgeworth Park at New Town. This place just blew me away. It was very uptown and the people seemed very, very nice. The place was clean, and they had nice rooms and nice layouts. There was a refrigerator and freezer in the rooms. The staff who assisted me was wonderful and very knowledgeable.

I visited this facility

I toured Edgeworth Park at New Town. It was a very, very nice place. They seemed to have a very secure check-in procedure there. The rooms were nice. The lady who took us on the tour was great. We saw their exercise room. Of course, we saw the dining room, and it looked very nice. It sounds like they are very responsive to people's dietary needs. An example that they used is that, if they have someone who is having a problem eating, they would work with them to come up with some things that he/she would be able to eat.

I toured the facility and really loved it. The people who work there are friendly and they really seem to care about the welfare of the residents that live there. I love the rooms as they are not too big, yet large enough. Its a great size for my mom. It will make her feel like she is at home. The dining area is welcoming and makes you feel like you are in a cozy café. I like that they have a strong sense of community with activities. like that they connect other seniors with incoming residents to make them feel welcome.

I visited this facility

We have decided on Edgeworth Park at New Town. The staff was very helpful and the place was very clean and open. It's a relatively small place, and that's why we chose it. All the meals are provided, and they have regular activities like playing games and going on field trips to local places. Their dining room was very nice; it's a bit small, but open. It's just a very nice place and it definitely felt homey. They have a nurse's station and everything like that but it has a cozy feel to it.

Edgeworth Park at New Town is excellent. So far, the staff members are very friendly, cooperative, and very responsive. I have no complaints. The food and the dining area are both very good. They've got several different types of activities. My father-in-law goes to an exercise class periodically. They had a family get-together a couple of weeks ago where they invited all the families in to sit down and have dinner with all the residents. It was done very nicely. They had some kind of a cooking class the other day that my wife went to. They had some entertainment and a singer come in. The one time I ate there it was excellent.

I visited this facility

Edgeworth Park at New Town was like a high-end hotel. It was very comfortable and everyone was very welcoming. They had a nice lounge area and there's a concierge that greeted us, had us sign in, and was able to get the people we needed for the tour. They were all very friendly and very helpful. I watched a lot of interaction with the other residents and I was very pleased with just the general gentleness of the people. The meal was very good and my parents were very pleased with the options that they had. Everything was very tasty.
