Nursing Home Communities in Gloucester, VA

"I had visited my uncle quite often at Regency Health & Rehabilitation Center. For a nursing home, I suppose it was fine. He was a younger person. He was just physically incapable of taking care of himself, but he was mentally fine. It was more designed for people who were mentally unable to make decisions and cannot really think for themselves. He did not like to be there and he had no one to talk to. He was very dissatisfied with it. It always looked clean and it always seemed to be clean, but there was always a smell in the air. As far as nursing homes go, it was probably just as good as any other. The rooms were of good size. There were usually two people in each room and each had their own bed. They can have a television. "

"I have a brother who had to have total hip replacement surgery. He also has a history of seizures and blackouts. He was recommended to go there after his discharge from rehab. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The doctors there are very experienced with their knowledge of medical treatment. They have a very healthy menu plan for any diagnosis and the food is actully tasty.They also have a chaplain if either the patient or family want to consult with. The social workers make sure supplies are ordered and ready for use in facility and transitioning home. I would recommend this facility to any that is looking into long term care. It also has a very clean atmosphere, recreational activities for residents, as well as a library, and an exercise room. He is now able to function fully without any assistance and transitioned well back into an independent home. "

"I thought that the facilities at Patriot's Colony were quite nice and impressive. It was clean, new, and well maintained. The residents received a lot of attention from the different staff members and nurses that worked there. Members of the assisted living area often helped and performed services for the members of the dementia unit. Those living in the dementia unit had certain days where they would go to hair appointments, get their nails done, etc. Residents also did exercise sessions that were led by a staff member. Other activities that I saw the residents participate in included games such as bingo, arts and crafts, and watching movies. All of my interactions with the staff members were very positive. They were all very friendly both with me and the residents at the facility. Whenever the residents needed help the employees were available to help them. Some of the residents were highly functioning while others were not yet all of them received the attention they needed. The facility was also very secure so that the residents with dementia could not leave without being accompanied by a member of the staff since a lot of the residents were in the very late stages of dementia. "

"Spent some time in rehab recently after having a leg amputated. Both the therapy and nursing sections treated me like and lord and catered to all my needs caringly, professionally and with great dignity. I am now home and getting along excellently due in large part to their help. "

"My grandmother has been living in the assisted living apartments of Westminster Canterbury since 2008 when my grandfather passed away. She has been very happy there, and has found wonderful friends and support in the staff and other tenants. The facility is very clean and the grounds are well kept. The staff I interacted with was incredibly friendly and helpful, and even remembered my name when I visited again. We always eat in their dining hall, which has consistently wonderful menus and attentive servers. There are many planned activities, like shopping and museum trips, that my grandmother has taken advantage of regularly. I was honestly worried about my grandmother's state of mind and quality of life becoming impaired after her husband passed away, but having met the people she spends her time with now, I know that she is in a healthy, supportive environment that pushes her to be social and keep her mind sharp. I would recommend Westminster Canterbury to anyone whose loved one is at the point in their lives to need a retirement or assisted living community. "

"Riverside Rehabilitation Hospital was awesome. My wife was there for two weeks and it was a wonderful place. I liked how attentive they were to her needs and everything was geared around getting her out, up, and mobile. The food had great portions and great variety with fresh fruits. All staff from the four areas that we focused on were wonderful, that includes the physical therapists, the occupational therapists, the speech pathologist, and the nursing staff."

"My mother was in Newport News Nursing & Rehab. We were very pleased with it. The staff, location, food, and upkeep were very good. They had different activities for them to do. "

"Can't say enough good things about the health care unit at the Chesapeake. My dad, who was a Chesapeake resident in both independent & assisted living, had to be admitted into the health care unit several times. Every nurse, administrator, assistant, housekeeper and every other health care unit staff member was professional, cheerful, and always at the ready to do all that was necessary. My dad died in that wing, but not after all that could be done for him had been done by that loving staff. They also did everything they could to keep me informed and comforted. What a great group!"

"What a wonderful facility! I cannot speak highly enough as to how pleased our family was with the support provided for our Dad. If you want around the clock care on a personal level from people who develop a loving relationship with your loved one, this is the place to go. Your loved one will not stay in bed or sit in a corner waiting for attention; instead, they will be the center of attention at this great home. We are so happy we found Elite Eldercare-it was an answer to our prayers! "

"I remember coming here during my HS days. We IBers (the program we were in at the time) had taken on projects to hep our community. We could tutor younger children, help clean up other areas around town or hang out with the elderly. Over this time period I visited a few centers, reading to the persons who lived there. At The Newport, I felt as if the staff were there, or rather wanted to be there. They weren't smiling because they had to in front of visitors, you saw it in their care of their residents. A simple smile in the nurses voice towards the gentleman I recall watching TV with in asking which team was winning that day put a smile on my face. She didn't have to ask him anything but she did. In fact in observing the staff it was readily apparently they saw their residents as people not more mouths to feed, bath and babysit. It was a very classy place in my opinion. "

"Sentara Nursing Center is clean with nice rooms. It has real hospital beds, not the cart things that my mom sleeps on at her current facility. "

"My mom was admitted to this facility unable to walk. Just 2 weeks later she was again mobile with her walker and able to get around. The entire staff was great and very helpful. The facility was clean and when I was there when she received her food it looked very good, was hot, and plentiful. The only reason for 4 stars was the responsiveness when my mom pushed the button for help, but I'm relying on her for that information. I would use this facility again."
