"I visited my girlfriend's mother who was at the Northern Neck Senior Community a few years ago. It was very nice. She had her own suite and they took such good care of her. She was in the early stages of Alzheimer's but as it progressed, she received more care. The nurses, the aides, and the whole place was set up beautifully. It was more like a country club. Her bedroom was large. It had a bathroom, a sitting area, and was large enough to have a two person sofa, and a recliner. She was able to pick her furniture when she came in and made it look like home. She never complained about the food. She usually had a menu sent out a week before so she could pick and choose from. Then the dietician would come around, get the menu, and go over it with her. Their dining room wasn't like a cafeteria. It was set up more like a dining room in a hotel, where four or six residents would sit on a table together and were served their meals. They had activities during the day, so each person was out of their room and was involved with things. They played bingo, had arts and crafts, entertainment, and of course church and different religious ceremonies on Sunday and Saturday. She was very happy with all that. They had a social director who kept her busy. She would come and get her so that she would go in and get involved in the social activities. They would go on little trips, such as go some place to get pizza or ice cream on a little bus. The staff was just excellent and were very attentive."
