"She moved into The Hermitage At Solomons. She's in a room by herself and it's much larger than other places, so we're happy with the size of the room. It also has four large windows, which seemed to be exception from all the other places we've seen in the Annapolis area. The price is also less than Annapolis, but it feels like you're in a hotel. The place itself also gives you the impression of looking very new even though it isn’t. They also have a situation where they have two rooms for one individual, one area being a sitting area and the other room being the bedroom. I've been very happy with the staff. They have two registered nurses, and the rest are aides. They see a doctor every four months and they have a podiatrist who comes in every two months. She has been very happy there and the food is better than what she's getting in the nursing homes in Annapolis. They play bingo every day and they have a reading room with daily newspapers. Cable TV is part of the monthly fee. Once a month, their bus takes them out to a restaurant."

"Asbury Solomons offered various kinds of apartment units. They had everything from a studio type to one-bedrooms, and they also had multi-bedrooms and cottages. The facility was very clean-looking. They have an indoor pool and a very nice fitness center. The marketing person that I dealt with has been excellent. She has been responsive every time. If it was a phone call, she was either there or she returned my call the same day. I sent her a couple of emails, and they have been responded to within 24 hours. My wife was with me, and she likes her quite a bit, too. The setting was very nice. It was like walking around a neighborhood. You have the option of walking down to the riverside. The one drawback was there was a fairly hefty entrance fee. When I did a comparison with another facility with a very small entrance fee, I found that this other facility could be more costly than Asbury Solomons. Despite that hefty entrance fee, after five years they were relatively close to one another. We're looking at thousands of dollars here, as opposed to tens of dollars. So, the closeness was an acceptable difference. They offered a range of things. There was one thing that really struck both of us. If you move into an apartment, they give you the option of getting new flooring, a new set of cabinets, and countertops in both the kitchen and the bathroom, as well as carpeting. In some cases, you could have walls removed (particularly if you wanted a more open look). We were both really struck that you could give the apartment a personal touch, as opposed to what was offered."

"I chose Autumn Lake Healthcare at Chesapeake Woods for my wife because it was available, which was the big thing. They have nursing care that is required by Medicare. My wife likes it there, and that's the best thing. They're very friendly, very helpful. The only problem is (and you'll find this to be true in many nursing homes) a lot of clothes are lost in the laundry, so I chose to do her laundry myself. That's the only issue that I have. Also, they all seem to be overworked because that's how they make their money. They have no single rooms. They're all double rooms. They each have an armoire and a chest of drawers. There's only one chair and one TV in the room. The staff are very good. For activities, they have little programs every morning. Like today, they took my wife for lunch out in the town. The cost is very high. I could not afford it if I didn't get Medicare."

"My mom is in Signature Healthcare at Mallard Bay doing rehab after a knee surgery. We're not able to visit yet. They're doing fine. I talked to my mom almost every day. There are issues with everything that happens, but nothing major. She seems to be fine there. She has good aides that help her get up and use the bathroom. She seems happy there now."
