"Colonial Harbor was great. They made us feel real comfortable. The rooms were nice, new, and had lots of storage. They have a lot of activities like craft days and a crochet club. "

"My wife is in Harper's Station Yorktown. They care about her. The staff is very good. They have a licensed nurse, and she takes care of her and makes sure she gets her medicine. She's an eater. They fed me a good meal. It's a brand new facility, so it's perfect. They have plenty of activities for all the residents. It's just that my wife is too far into her dementia, so she doesn't participate. It's a lot of money for sleeping and eating."

"Sanders Retirement Village was very nice, clean, bright, and very homey. All rooms were single occupancy, not shared rooms, and very roomy and well lit with nice furniture and private bathrooms. They had a lot of activities, but I think they should include more physical activities because most of them were lectures and movies. My dad was more interested in physical activities like bowling and other games. The facility was in a very nice setting within a beautiful neighborhood a block away from downtown Gloucester, so it's very convenient for the residents. The staff was very nice. I would recommend this facility. "

"Colonial Heritage Community is a very nice place. The staff is wonderful, they serve great food, and they provide entertainment. As far as I know, it's top-notch. "

"My parents have an apartment in the main building and have lived there for the past several years (since it's opening). We have found it to be a wonderful place with caring, attentive staff, tons of activities (they frequently invite us and the grandkids for shows/concerts/movies that are top-quality). My Dad is on the Bocce Ball team as well as the wood-working group. They stay active in the gym which is world-class- one of the olympic teams practices there due to the type of machines...not sure what it is, but they are top notch as well as the pool! This is a very high-end retirement community and has some of the best staff/chefs! I have worked in about 27 nursing homes/communities, so I've seen a variety of them when I was in my clinical job; so I speak from experience. I would highly recommend Windsor Meade to anyone...my parents have been very happy there!"

"The girl who showed me around Dominion Village was very nice, but the facility seemed a little older. It was assisted living and it was one room. The rooms were very small. The staff was very nice and very informative. They had reading groups and they took them out shopping. They had quite a bit. For someone needing assisted living with one just room and not being very active anymore, it would be nice, but it just wasn't what we needed right now. "

"We chose Warwick Forest Retirement Community for my mother. We just liked that it was very organized. It was clean and smelled good. It had lots of different choices of things to do. It had a nice little fish tank and a nice little bird finch cage you can go look at. The rooms are pleasant. My mother's also in hospice, so they have hospice people that come in and out a lot. You have to have a lot of patience with her. The food is very good. They have art classes and reading book clubs. You can get in the little van and go places like the mall, the bank, and a lot of other places. They gave a book for the month, and all the different things you can do for the month. They have a birthday social. My mom's just not one to participate. We would get more out of it if she were a participant, but if you were to live there and be social and go out and eat and talk and do the activities, definitely you're getting what you're paying for. The care has been good. The room size is good. The layout is not real conducive, like the TV cable is on one side of the room. Then, where you put the bed for them to be able to access the emergency pull thing is on the opposite side of the room. The TV is pretty far away from the bed. Therefore, you have to turn the TV up loud, and then your neighbors can hear because it's against the wall. We rearranged it. We got a longer cable and moved the table closer to the bed."

"I was a patient in the rehab department of Patriot's Colony 2 times following leg amputations. It is the best place. Great care, awesome staff, Great food, good PT, OT, etc. It was like staying at a five star resort. Better than the other rehabs I've been to."

"My visit at Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury was a pleasent and peaceful one. The Care that the staff gives to each and everyone one of their guests is unbelieveable. The time that the nurses take with all of their patients is also mind blowing. I am most defiantly considering Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury as an option with both my mother and my father. I am so happy that I got to visit and enjoy a family like enviroment. It is so nice to see such a happy and friendly place. Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury provides several different levels of care to best match any individual's specific needs. So as health needs change, residents are able to move from one level of care to another. The aim of all care programs and plans is to increase one's abilities to reach and maintain maximum independence. "The amenities at The Chesapeake are pretty much the same as with other communities. The only difference is that their meal plan carries over for three months, so that is definitely an advantage. Their floor plan, however, does not have extra storage room. They provide a storage area but it is not very large. They provide your choice of flooring, whether you want rugs or hardwood, and the colors of the wall that you would like. They have more scheduled entertainment activities than other communities. They have the traditional transportation and nurses on-site primarily with the assisted living and the memory care. They have the typical swimming pool, like an exercise pool, but it is quite large. They do not have a theater, but they do have an all-purpose room where they could show movies. The dining area is large, and they're in the process of updating and combining four or five different eating areas, so they have much more of a choice than other communities. "

"I liked The Arbors at Port Warwick. They were very nice. I wouldn't mind living there. It was very pleasant and I liked the idea that you don't have to pay a great big upfront fee. Their rooms looked very nice. The whole place was pleasant. If I had to go somewhere, I could go there easily. The lady who did the tour was nice, very pleasant, very thorough, answered all my questions, and showed me everything I wanted to see. It's got several floors, so you get on an elevator to go up then come down. I wouldn't care much about that, but I liked the fact that it was across the street from a little park where they have music and stuff. You can either go over there or you can just raise your window and listen to the music. They had a nice library, too."

"I would give them a 5 because of the amenities, as far as the different recreational programs and the services like housekeeping. The staff was very knowledgeable and very pleasant to speak to. The staff showed me a one-bedroom. My sister has a walker, and she has difficulty standing up on her own. The bedroom was geared towards the handicapped person. It was very accessible. They give classes and exercise in the morning. They have a full recreational calendar. They have a library. They go on bus trips and transportation if you want to go shopping. The area was nice, clean and neat in the morning. It looks like a very new community."

"My sister in-law found Seton Manor for my mother-in- law. The staff is nice. The studio room is big enough and it was nice. They quite a few things that they do there. You can’t get in without a code for every apartment you are vising. "

"Around last April, the family had come to the conclusion that Grandma keeping her house, as need of home repair and full of mounting bills was not worth it. She was aside from me living there (and myself moving out) was isolated from her friends in Hampton (she lived in Newport News). And driving was becoming an issue especially if it rained or grew too dark. Grandma though didn't want to simply be 'tossed in a home'. When you think of a home, you think of cantankerous older persons shuffling along yelling for water. My Ma found this place and it is almost an 'anti-home-. Grandma has her one unit that's fashion like an apartment, her mailbox it right down the hall that passes the great room. But the best was how bright and airy the place looks. You really feel like your in some high end apartment/condo complex. The place is so nice my Ma is serious considering moving there in a few years. I mean your food is planned for you and your right by the city attractions. Funnier still was that within a day of living there, Grandma met a few family and friends from way back in the day. She gets out, plays (or rather is trying to relearn) spades and is just living it up in a place she doesn't have to maintain. You barely feel the staff presence which is a good thing as you really feel like she's just a gray haired bachelorette having a ball. But small things like panic buttons and oversized bathrooms tell you if something were to happen help will be right there. Rather ace living space. "
