"The Chesapeake is a nice community, but it was not within our price range. It was immaculate and was just like a home. The staff is very friendly and they cater to the residents' needs. The place itself is very modern, they have a state-of-the-art dining area, and it's like a hotel type setting. The rooms can be personalized, and designed the way they like it. When I was there I saw the residents doing different things. Some were watching a movie, others were playing cards, and some of them were in the exercise area. The food looked appealing. It was a good place."

"My brother will be moving into Karolwood Gardens Portsmouth. We left a deposit today. Kim was most accommodating, caring, loving, and made us feel very comfortable. His room is very accessible and movable for him being legally blind. It's a nice match for him. The dining areas in the pods were nice, but I can't say too much about anything else. I just walked by."

"We've been living in the Harbor's Edge Retirement Community. We're kind of split right now, my wife is in long-term care, and I'm in independent living. They've been very, very helpful, and flexible with what we needed and have provided help. Even the outside companies come in and help if they are needed. It's like eating in a nice four- or five-star restaurant, or a cruise ship that doesn't go anywhere. The cleanliness is very good. This is four or five stars all the way, and it should be for what we pay. They have activities for independent people, and they take them out to the opera, they take them out to dinner. We have an activities director who almost daily provides activities, various things from bingo to cards to flower arranging, to doing your nails, and doing your hair, styling your hair. It's all in one facility. That's the nice thing about it. This is a 17-story building, it requires quite a bit of maintenance, and we've got a full maintenance staff. Next door, we just built a 20-story building, and it's attached to this building. So we now have maybe four restaurants here for food. We have bars, a separate bar, you go for drinks at night. We have wind down Wednesdays where you go and have hors d'oeuvres and wine at 4:00 in the afternoon before dinner or something. The facilities are very, very nice. This one is a brand-new tower. They just moved, which I think it's about half full now. Of course, this one's full. They're renovating the entire third floor, so the downside to it is the inconvenience when they're refurbishing everything and renovating. But other than that, when it's finished, it's done very nicely, first class, five star, new. Even though we're separated now, and occupying two units, we're only paying for the original amount that we paid when we came here, so it's a pretty nice deal."

"I was in Patriots Colony at Williamsburg. I lived there for ten years. When I was there, they hadn't closed down because of the virus. The only reason I left was because my wife died, and I felt like I needed to be nearer to my son. We had an activity coordinator who planned activities a month in advance. We went on bus tours to different places, we went on water rides, and we went to art museums. There was something to do all the time, which I miss, but I can also understand why we can't do that now. I started out in a two-bedroom apartment but moved to a one-bedroom when my wife passed away. The food was excellent. I don't think any place can beat the cleanliness of the Patriots. They would spend a lot of time making the place clean and neat. The staff was always available to help and always asking if they can do anything for you. I'm extremely pleased with them, and I'd still be there if it hadn't for my wife passing away."
