"My sister signed a contract for Quail Run Estates and so we're all set. I visited there twice. Their offering includes three meals a day, includes maid service once a week, washing bed linens and towels and clothes. They seemed to have a lot of activities, we're not too sure of their kind of activities, that she is really, in the long run, going to enjoy, but she comes from a kind of an intellectual background. I mean, bingo, four times a week isn't going to cut it. And so we'll just have to see how it works out. We thought the décor was just fine. She got a one-bedroom and she approved of the footprint of the space, she is on the second floor and there is elevator service, of course. Everyone that greeted us was very pleasant."

"Bluebird Estates was really good and only offered independent living. The staff was awesome. The rooms and common area were nice. I liked everything about it, but if my mother needed more assistance, you have to pay for it separately. She's going to be 90, so it wasn't feasible for us to move her up here not knowing what's going to happen in the future. It was going to be too expensive, but that was a really good option."

"Keystone Commons has a lot of activities, and the food menu was great. The residents were very proud of their apartments, which were very nice. Half of the apartments had balconies and little porches on them, which was nice. They have a really nice setup for roommates where each roommate has a good-sized bedroom, a really large bathroom, and a closet, and the common space has a kitchen and dining. The living room also has an alcove sunroom which is small, but you can really have a lot of privacy, but you can still be together. It's a beautiful design rather than sharing a room. They have exercise rooms, and a lot of the activity spaces were scattered on different floors. The place is very large, and we were concerned about my mother comprehending it. It is 3 floors, and we thought it would be too much. But the person in charge of placement is probably the best we had anywhere, and she kept regular contact and they also send promotional gifts. "

"My mom loves her little room perfect for her. Natural lighting with all the windows. As for the caregivers I feel at meal times there should be three on the shift. There is a lot of time spent trying to get those that need assistance into the dining areas. The food temperature is an issue. Also the residents need time to eat and not feel rushed so the women working can take away dishes, disinfect the table and reset for next meal time. I feel that third person could be a runner for drinks etc and taking down special notes for residents specific needs for their meal preparation etc. The food needs to a hotter temperature when arriving to dining area. Plus there shouldn't be spicy foods included in their daily diets and more fresh fruit choices and vegetables. Which should be steamed tender not tough and hard. Also I would add there should be more activities for especially assisted living residents as well as the independent living. The flooring in the assisted living wings and hallways need to be replaced ASAP. I've addressed this back in February. I was told quotes were being done and now workers have to be hired to get the contract job done. I'm very happy to see a guest/visitor sign in book was implemented again. Should have been all along. Also I would like to get a key for my mom room. My brother and I were specifically told by Director we would receive one. Just in case we take my mom out for the weekend. Safety first for all not just for residents but for staff and guests/outside professionals.""

"We chose Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks for my mother-in-law because she's lived in that area and is comfortable there. The staff has been wonderful, everyone is just wonderful and welcoming. Her room there is very nice and very clean. There's been a maintenance guy there that's been helping her, there's a nurse and a house-keeper; it's great. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I'm very happy with the care that she's getting and I'm very happy that the move went very smoothly. They have tons of activities. Every day they have activities, plus they have a spa there, a movie room, plus there's beautiful seating outside. It's great."

"Mom is getting excellent care at Emeritus at South Windsor. I know that they have plenty of activities, but at the level my mom is at right now, I don’t think she participates in them. They have a wonderful staff and I think they pretty much follow up all the way around as much as they can. "

"Hoffman SummerWood generates a lot of people of the Jewish faith. It is basically built by Jewish people, so the food is kosher, and the majority of their residents are Jewish. There is nothing wrong with that, but I didn't think my parents would acclimate to that type of environment. It was clean and beautiful, but it wasn't what my mom and dad would need. The staff was excellent. The individual that showed us around was great. She answered a lot of questions. At the end, she actually had the chef prepare three meals for me to bring back for my mom and dad. It was a salmon salad, which was just very lovely. It was absolutely beautiful. However, it would have been nice if the grounds were kept up a little bit more. There were patio chairs tipped over, and it could have been because it was raining the night before, but other than that, it was absolutely gorgeous, it just wasn't what my parents would probably feel comfortable in. The rooms were beautiful, but I was looking for a place that had a patio. I was a little discouraged that they didn't have that because that's like a big piece of what would probably sell my mom, the opportunity for her to break out of her room and have a space of her own and not necessarily to have to walk through the whole facility to go out into the courtyard."

"We will be moving into Avery Heights. The feeling we got walking in the front door was that it was an active, friendly place. Everybody was upbeat and walking around with smiles on. The staff was very friendly, outgoing, helpful, and very happy to be there doing programs with the actual residents. We had lunch with them, and it was okay. Everything was well kept. Everything looked like it had been maintained well. They have a fairly new pool on the ground floor and there are lots of other group activity rooms. There are plenty of places for people to be. I was very impressed with the rooms. We saw an older room that had not been through the rehab process yet. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There's plenty of square footage and a very nice balcony looking over a beautiful garden. There's great lighting in the room. It's a lovely space."

"I've gone to Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing to visit the place and I thought it was a pretty good area, especially the surroundings. It was a nice community and the people were very friendly. They would give you 30 meals a month, take you to your doctor's appointments or pick up your medications. They had a very, very nice two-bedroom apartment where each person had their own bathroom. The grounds were beautiful."

"Because Heritage Woods is cost effective for us, we decided on this community for my father. They seem effective for the cost that they were charging as opposed to some of the other possibilities. I didn't think any of the other facilities would have anything more to offer to warrant what they were charging. First off, I like best the fact that they gave us pretty much an open platform. They told us, 'Whatever you need, let me know and we'll make it happen,' and they have followed up with it. The staff there has been very, very gracious. I have not seen one person with a bad attitude yet. Right now my dad is in a shared room. There isn't another person in his room at the moment, but they may eventually be. However, not only does he have his own space for his bedroom and what-not, he's also got a little kitchenette. It is a shared kitchen area. He also has very spacious bedroom and bathroom. He can wheel his wheelchair directly into the bathroom and shower. My dad is also very pleased with the food. They also have some very fun activities like football for the guys, etc. Just recently, they had a concert there. My dad called me the other night and said, 'You know what? It doesn't get any better than this.' He is extremely happy with where he is right now. "

"My parents are residents of Providence Place at Ingleside. I would say it's well-run, it's very clean, and the food is good. The grounds are lovely; it's just a lovely place to be. They have all kinds of group exercises. They do movie nights. They have a crafts room where they do scheduled crafts. They take the van with people out on regular shopping trips, pharmacy runs, and bookstore runs. They have a lovely dining room with good food, and a nice little coffee breakfast room. In general, it just seems to be a very nice place. The staff is just wonderful. I have eaten there myself, and it's very good. If you have ever seen it, you know it has to get a five, it's beautiful. I think they offer a wide selection of activities, and they even made it work through COVID by taking them outside, physically spacing, and still being able to get some movement in. So, I was very impressed with them."

"I know a couple of people that lived in Residences at Mill 10. It is beautiful. The apartments were very nice. The ceilings were about 20 feet high. The setup was good. It was nice and open. When you come into the front door, you walk right into the kitchen area where there's a big, huge island. Then the living room is beyond that with an open concept. There's wood in the ceilings and it's got very large windows. So, it's very airy, and very bright. My friend's bedroom seemed a little small, but it had a very large walk-in closet off of it, and a nice, large bathroom. The only drawback was she lived at the end of the building, so she was on a corner, and when you come off the elevator, you're going to walk a mile to her apartment. They have exercises and a walking path right near there. They got central air/heat and they have pretty good security. I think the money you pay is worth it, because it was kind of a sliding scale type thing, and she was able to apply some kind of way to get assistance to pay."

"We found The Arbors. It is close to home, so the travel is easy. We like that they had a lot of activities. They do cards, church services, and memory care activities although my mother is not involved in those. They also have a bus, and they bring their tenants to different activities outside the facility. The staff is very friendly and very attentive. The place is very nice and very clean, and they maintain it well. They have 3 entrées every sitting, and they have 2 sittings every day. The dining room is nice. "

"The one that I saw and liked was Suffield Commons. It's very close to where I am now and my family is around in this area. It was very convenient for banking, shopping, a library, and doctor's offices. They have activity rooms. Each apartment has a type of new washing machine where you wash your clothes and then it dries them. That's in the unit. And at the end of the hallway on each floor, they have a bigger laundry area that you can go to. One of the tenants helped me during my visit because the manager was on vacation that week. He showed me the apartment. We walked all around, and he showed me all the different things that they had there. There is a restaurant that they have that serves breakfast and lunch."

"I've only been living here in Connect55+ East Windsor for a month now. I signed up with them at least three years ago, before they even built it. There are a couple of things I really liked about it. One was that there was a washer and dryer in the apartment. They had crafts and stuff. They had numerous activities going on, and they had garages. I was able to move all of my stuff over to the garage. It's brand new and very clean."
