"I went to Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks. The location was a good location, as it was right off the highway to my house. It was clean. It seemed to have quite a few amenities. The pricing was reasonable. The staff were great. They were excellent. They were very personable. They seemed to know the residents by name. They were very good. They have an exercise area. They have an activities room. They have a movie room. There was a library there. They ask the residents what they would like, and them try and create different activities based on the wants and needs of the community. I thought that was really nice."

"I went to Brookdale South Windsor the week before. The mother of my first wife was there before. The staff was good. The place was clean, but the cost was just too expensive. It was neat. The staff was good. They showed me the library and the movie theater, where they had recreation."

"We toured Cedarbrook Village at Ware. We looked at a couple, and this one seemed to be the best one for the needs of my father-in-law. We've met 3 or 4 of the staff. They all sound very nice. The facility is brand new. It opened in 2020, and it's a gorgeous facility. We did see an exercise class while we were there viewing it. The people were getting ready for lunch but they did have dancing and live music. They take people out. They go out for ice cream. They go out for coffee. It seems like they keep them very busy. We did see a schedule of things that they are going to be doing during the week, and they do keep them occupied."

"I went to Avery Heights. I like the openness of the facility, and I like the activity that I saw around, and people interacting. It was very well maintained. It was clean, and they seemed to be very active on that. There were several floor plans available, and they all looked appropriate. For me, the one-bedroom is maybe a little small. Other than that, the floor plans were fine."

"Buckingham Heights was only dedicated exclusively to memory care so that they can address every need at every stage, whatever happens to your loved one who's got dementia. Suzanne assisted us with the tour and she was wonderful. She's been there a long time and can answer any question you have. The other shining star thing that I would say about the place was that they had a lot of staff who have been there for many years. They have relatively low turnover and there is a lot of staff. They have like a 5-year, 15-year, and 20-year club for those staff who have been there that long. The dining area looked very nice. The rooms were basic but pleasant. The idea there was not to spend all your time in your room. So, the room was just a place to dress and bathe and sleep. But the life of the place was based on keeping the residents engaged and active. When it comes to the activities, they are appropriate for people with memory issues. They have an inner courtyard that is freely available for residents to go into on their own. For the outside patios, you need to have somebody with you. Even their physical facilities were designed to give the most freedom and autonomy to their residents."

"The staff was very helpful. They did an excellent job when my mother was in a very tough position medically while transitioning from her home to assisted living. They gave her extra care and attention, which is what she needed. She has been there about 2 ½ months now, and she is settling in and getting her routine, and it is really important to get that transition period going and as quickly as possible. The staff made that transition very smooth. When we felt we needed changes to her care, they responded to our request almost immediately. We are at a point now, after 2 ½ months, where we are pretty stable in terms of our care plan for Mom. They understand her, and she is now more comfortable with the staff; she trusts them. So right now we are happy with where she is. The only thing I would say they need to improve on is the food because it is inconsistent. "

"We have chosen The Birches (Heritage Woods) memory care in the Heritage Woods building for Mom. It came highly recommended and we in turn greatly recommend this facility. They have a dining area (large room) for families to gather or just come and have a pizza party with the resident. They invited us to dine with Mom before we signed the paperwork, and the food was delicious. They have two selections of food for each meal. They go to the residents' rooms and ask which selection the resident prefers for their meal. They have numerous activities such as the typical bingo, puzzles, arts and crafts, exercises, scavenger hunts, name that state, move to the music, photography fun, baking cookies, movie night and so many more interactive activities. Mom loves the brightness of the Birches! The staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful, and the rooms are beautiful and roomy. Mom loves the enclosed (securely fenced) gardens, she enjoys sitting under the canopy, visiting with other residents or family. The staff brings out lemonade or iced tea and various treats to the residents when outdoors. The flowers and shrubs planted in the gardens have been carefully selected to attract birds and butterflies. Truly beautiful. And added to this beauty is the fact that residents can go out any time they like, even unattended, because the staff can monitor the residents through the large windows from within and be within seconds of help if necessary. Did I mention how much my husband and I love the Birches for Mom? It is the most wonderful and perfect fit for Mom and it is assuring that she is in a very pleasant and safe environment."

"We chose here because of their memory impairment component called Morning Star, and that's really what attracted me to it. The staff was outstanding, very caring and very attentive to my mom and to me and they made this experience so much easier for us. She is in a studio apartment by herself and it has a small window, a bed and a bath. The dining area and the food were excellent. She raves about how her day goes and her interaction with the other residents. She is improving considerably. I was impressed with them and how outstanding, Michelle, the marketing director is."

"The Arbors Assisted Living at Westfield was beautiful, and we have friends who are there. We saw the bedrooms and apartments. Everybody seemed very friendly. The apartment that we looked at seemed to fit the bill for a single person, and everything just looked clean, tidy, and just seemed like a very nice, homey place. The person who gave the tour was one of the owners, and she was very pleasant, and very informative, and answered whatever question we had. The room had a little kitchenette, not a tiny tiny bedroom, but certainly one that would accommodate a twin bed, a dresser, and maybe a TV. The living room was nice, there were a lot of nice areas outside the little apartment for people to use, which was nice. We were very pleased."

"My sister is in independent living at McLean, which is a continuing care facility. It seems to be well-run. My sister has been living there for several years. Her husband passed away last fall, but he got excellent care there. The staff and grounds seem to be fine. It's all clean and well-maintained. My sister's unit is a newly built, 1-bedroom home with a kitchen, dining area, living room, and a little patio all on one level, and she seems to like it very much."

"Can't say enough about this place. My mom was there a few months back after surgery and they were fantastic. She recently had to go back and arrived just after lunch. After getting settled in her lunch showed up and the chef/nutritionist came to the door to say hi. He welcomed her back and said "now as I recall your favorites were..." and rattled off what he had made for her for lunch. The care here is great but it's things like this that make all the difference in the world. Highly reccomend."
