"My father moved in and he likes it so far. They have all kinds of activities and he enjoys that. Their staff is fine and his room there is nice. The dining area there is very nice and set up in a formal concept, they also have an outdoor area. I would describe the overall atmosphere is comfortable."

"I visited Traditions of Columbus. It was a good tour. The community seemed very nice. It's quite a bit more expensive though. They have decent apartments. The staff who gave the tour seemed very nice, knowledgeable, and friendly. It seemed very neat and clean. You walk in and you don't smell odor or anything. We looked at their dining area. It seemed very nice."

"Astral at Franklin would have been our second choice because it was closer to home. They had a meal plan on some kind of ticket voucher, and we didn't like that. It was new, so they didn't have any planned trips or things to do during the week. But it was brand new, and it was really impressive. Everything was up to date; the countertops were new, and the bathrooms were impressive. They have a nice kitchen. They have a big patio open area where you could go out and grill. You could sit out front in rockers or whatever. The staff who showed me around was very professional, friendly, and helpful. The facility was excellent, everything was perfect."

"I toured the Grand Victorian of Greenwood. It's a lovely place. They asked me to stay for lunch, and they were very gracious. They weren't trying to sell me anything. They are just really nice. It had a microwave and a refrigerator. It had a mini kitchenette type, but it was nice. It was OK because I've seen some awful ones, not even a countertop big enough to put a coffee pot on. So, this was good. It would meet my needs, but the price goes way up from independent living to assisted living. There are three meals a day. It's a nice place."

"I visited Four Seasons Retirement Center. It;s a very nice community, very modern and well kept. Their rooms were very nice, nice carpets with clean walls. They have a beautiful dining room. The only thing with them is that if want to go some place, you are charge for that. They also charge care every 15 minutes if you want additional care. "

"It seemed to be as nice as an assisted living facility could be. I am not always comfortable in assisted living homes for various reasons, but it was obvious the staff there, as well as the facility itself, went out of their ways to make sure the people living there and the people visiting were as comfortable as they could possibly be. I know my grandmother enjoyed her time there as much as someone who values their independence could; she made a lot of friends and it seemed like she really enjoyed the many social aspects of the place. I didn't have much experience with the doctors there, but my grandmother never had any complaints and they always made time to answer any questions my mother had about the care that was being given, so I would be quick to recommend this place to anyone who needed information on an assisted living center. "

"Autumn Trace seemed a nice enough place. The staff who gave us the tour did a very good job of taking us around and explaining everything. The place looks very nice inside since it's brand new. The rooms are adequate and nice enough and seemed like a good design. All of the people we talked to and dealt with were nice. It was all one floor, and at each corner of the facility, they had an screened or glassed-in porch area where you can sit out. They also had laundry facilities on all four corners."

"We went to Otterbein SeniorLife Franklin. They had a woodshop, painting, and a greenhouse. The rooms were fine. The only problem was they didn't have two-bedroom units. It was just a main room and a bedroom. The bathrooms were a little old and they had high curbs, getting in and out of them. Otterbein is a little bit older, but part of its charm was it's older. It would have been a lovely place to go. The atmosphere was wonderful. The only reason we needed a two-bedroom apartment is that our parents don't sleep together, but there were couples that were in their one-bedroom apartments and that wasn't the issue. The issue is, the price they were charging for the second person was almost as much as they were charging for one person. We have visited lots of assisted living places and usually, the second person is less than $1000 because mostly you're just paying for food. The first person is paying for the two-bedroom apartment, so the second person doesn't cost much, but Otterbein was charging like $3780 for the second person. Every place else we looked at is anywhere from $700 to $1000. Adding a second person made it astronomically expensive. If you need assisted living and you just need a one-bedroom, it's amazing, I'd go there. They had all the extra activity spaces."

"I visited Ashford Place in Shelbyville and my aunt is on their waiting list. We chose it because it's close to where I live and in relation to the other communities, it's significantly less money. My aunt is also set on finding a place where she could have her little dog and Ashford does allow residents to have pets, so that's another factor. I was pleased because everything was as they looked in the picture and in person. The facility has been updated in the last couple of years so I think they're modern, nice, and clean. The independent living cottage was larger than what I thought, I was surprised with how big they were. They were 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, it's nice to have all those extra spaces."

"If I could rate ZERO if I could. Building is barely a year old and dirty. Nothing in common areas get cleaned. Staff will tell you one thing then do another. Homeless people staying in the building. Shady business practices all the way around. For the cost of them it should be better maintained. If the management doesn’t take pride in the facility then the people living there won’t. This is for the independent part of Vita"
