"Arden Courts was really nice. It was clean and everything was in order. The only drawback was it was not affordable. The staff was really nice. They have private rooms, community rooms for activities, and a place where they can sit around and enjoy one another. Each wing had its own dining area. "

"The executive director of Sunrise Villa Olympia Fields, Lisa, met with us on the tour and she's very friendly and very patient. She explained everything and answered all the questions that we had. The facility was nice and pleasant too. The rooms were very nice and so, it was a very pleasant experience."

"My sister is at Sunrise of Flossmoor. It is extremely clean. There's easy access for family members. There is a nursing staff 24/7, as well as a concierge for security. They have numerous activities and outings. The dining area is more restaurant style, and the residents can more or less choose what they want off of the list of things for that day. They have very nice people. They are friendly and active. The medical staff is very interactive with us, so that if there are issues we know right away. It's just a good facility. They have all kinds of activities. There is exercise, outings to the library, ice cream socials, bands, and all kinds of activities that are brought in. There are crafts, cards, and entertainment. It's very nice. They try to keep the residents active in many ways. They also have a facility mascot, like a dog and a cat, for the residents. The staff is very helpful and very friendly to my sister. They keep me informed so I know what is going on, and that's all good. Whether it's medical or not, I know what's taking place, and I know she's getting the care that she needs. The food is very good, but I think there could be more monitoring as far as what food a resident is ordering, like if they're trying to control their diabetes and so forth there could be monitoring for that, and there could be more staff to serve the dinner and food items in a more timely fashion. I think the rooms are a little bit expensive and there is some marijuana smoke that you can smell sometimes at the facility, which I'm sure is a resident that's doing that. When you're spending $5,000 or more a month or $7,200 for the memory care, which is a separate unit, I don't think you should have to have that, even though it is recreationally legal. I just think there should also be a Medicaid option, and there's not a Medicaid option there."

"The Sunrise of Palos Park was very nice. I toured their assisted living facility for my uncle. It's built off of an old mansion, so when you walk in, you're kind of in an old grand hotel from the 1920s or 30s, or even older. Everything has been updated, though, so you weren't actually walking into an old place that's falling apart. It's all very nice, just kind of grand, and gives you that kind of old feeling. I liked it right off the bat because my uncle's house was an old farmhouse. It is set right next to the forest reserves, so there are wooded areas and wildlife coming up. The fact that this is kind of an old mansion in an old setting, I think, would be a more comfortable and smoother transition for him. The facilities inside are modern and updated, and just very nice. We met with the person who gave us the tour. She was not a sales representative, so she couldn't answer some questions, but she did answer a lot of our questions. We toured three rooms, one of which was under construction because the resident had moved out and they were fixing it up to be available again. We got to see all of those three units in different sizes and at different prices. One good thing about Sunrise, too, is that we were told that he only needs one assessment, and both Sunrise facilities that we were looking at honor the one assessment, so my uncle doesn't have to keep being assessed. We got to see that they had nice views out the windows. The facades that they have on the walls kind of feel like you're in a grand hotel, but also kind of like an old-time small town. They have interior windows that face out into the halls, which is nice and something I didn't see in any other facility we toured. They also have nice garden areas, so it's a very nice, peaceful setting. What really impressed me about them was that the residents who were milling around and kind of doing things were not afraid to engage with us. The person who gave the tour also encouraged us to speak with them. I think that's good for the residents to keep up their morale and give them a little bit of purpose."

"GHThis is a great location next to local conveniences, and has beautiful grounds. I’ve toured several other places but the people here seemed happier. For the price, it’s consistent with almost anything that offers similar amenities. "

"It is like a family there! A kind, Christian community. My uncle and aunt were cared for so very well and they were happy there to the very end of their lives. Our family highly recommend them!"

"I toured Marian Village. They were a little less expensive, but the place itself just seemed so vibrant, alive, energetic, and bright. The place seemed very new and very updated. When you walked in, you were welcomed by the person at the front desk. The price, I think we could handle. The tough part is they require an entrance fee of $90,000. I have noticed reviews that are not too high, but when I did the tour, they had like a little bistro, and some residents were having omelets and things like that, and the food smelled amazing. They have a lot of events. They had a nice exercise room. They had laundry on each floor and seemed to have more dining areas. They give 400 points per month, and each point is equal to a dollar. You can use those points in the cafeteria or the dining area, and they don't carry over to the next month. They kind of give you an allotment, and then if you go over that, you start to pay. Mary Beth gave me the tour. She knew all the residents. She's very good and very thorough. Everything was so clean. There wasn't a spot on the carpeting. There wasn't a whole lot of carpeting. There was more of the vinyl plank flooring type of things. The dining room was set for dinner, and they had cloth napkins, glasses, and silverware. Everything seemed to be clean. Throughout the whole tour inside the rooms, in the laundry rooms, or the dining area, there was no stale odor or anything like that as you toured it. It was very clean, not like bleach clean or anything like that. It was just a fresh, clean environment."

"My sister moved to The Cottages of New Lenox. I like the friendliness of the staff, the floor plan, the small cottage feel, the open-space environment, and the studio bedroom was perfect. So far she's done some artwork and played some games. They did a bingo game yesterday and she seems to enjoy those games and activities."

"Franciscan Village was absolutely, totally beautiful, but it was more expensive than the other place and it seemed like there were extra charges for everything. If you want to use the family dining room or something, that was extra. I visited on a Saturday. The only activity listed for the day was mass at 4:00. The rooms were lovely, but they were incredibly small. The common areas were absolutely beautiful. They have a chapel that is a work of art. There was a library. They showed me the common areas, and there's snack bar, cafe kind of thing. They showed me their storage. They showed their crafts room and activity room. Physically, it was very nice, but it wasn't for me."

"I chose Victory Centre of Roseland for my aunt because I just fell in love with it. It is very welcoming and pleasant. Every employee that I came across was very nice. Now that my aunt is there, they are so helpful with her. I'm so happy she's getting around OK. She loves them. She told me how everybody is so nice to her and how they speak to her. They call her by her name, and that is important to her. The place is lovely and just friendly. She is doing well going to the dining room. She is loving it because it is so close by. The moment she steps off the elevator, the dining room is right there. Her apartment is not far from the elevators, too. It's just so convenient. They do movies, and they have a salon. They have just been really helpful."

"A wonderful concept of providing care. Instead of being an institutional environment, it is a comfortable single-family home that has been designed for this purpose. My grandmother loved the fact that she lived in a single family home, with three other residents, while getting all the help that she needed.
