The westernmost city in Florida, Pensacola is located near the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Around 52,000 people call the city home, with those age 65 and over representing almost 17% of the population. The Pensacola metro area is much larger, however, with more than 480,000 residents. Despite its proximity to sought-after beaches, the cost of living in Pensacola is less than the national average, making it a good choice for retirees. Seniors interested in aviation may enjoy watching a daring performance by the famous Blue Angels. Pensacola also boasts three senior centers that offer an array of programs, classes and activities for area retirees.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
