I recently moved here in The Villas At Lakeside Oaks and, to be exact, just this 1st of September. I have my own patio off my room and I have a beautiful view from my unit. Food is excellent. All the staff is excellent. It is just a very homey community overall.

My mother has been at Villas at Lakeside Oaks for three months now. It is a small community with only 28 patients. I like the fact that it’s like a house; there is a central room as the dining room, and you can see every room from that room. There aren't any hallways. For my mother, it is important to have a smoking area, and there is a porch in the front that she’s able to smoke on. That played into her decision because lots of places don’t have a smoking area. I like that the manager is a nurse. The assistants are very nice and very caring. We had a great experience there. It’s like a little mom and pop place. They have activities, like bingo and arts and crafts. Twice a week, they have church services. They also have ice cream socials. There’s a big room where there’s a fireplace and a big-screen TV if they want to watch TV outside of their rooms. The rooms are very spacious for a private room. For my mother, I needed to have a secure place that was going to care for everything she needs. This is a place where you could stay until the end. It may not be the right place for everyone, but for the people that are there, it is the right one.

The Villas at Lakeside Oaks seemed almost too crowded, and I just felt claustrophobic. The staff members were friendly and accommodating. The rooms seemed clean, but like I said, they seemed crowded.

This facility is undergoing ownership changes. There have been some property improvements, but there are still things that need updating. Not sure when this building was originally built, but my friend's room looks like it's from the 1980s. Smoke detectors look old. Bathroom looks old. The facility has some positives. The drive in is oak shaded and there are nice options for sitting outdoors, a screened porch and an open porch. There is a lake to one side that has lots of water birds to watch. There is a fireplace that serves both the living and dining common areas. The staff seems nice enough when spoken to, but I haven't had much contact with them. I felt there could be more activities and outings for those that are ambulatory. I haven't tried it, but my friend complains about the food. She was also disappointed that the resident cat was removed when the new management took over - not so disappointed about the birds.

Edinborough Square in Dunedin is a smaller facility that is located just off the main vein in Down Town Dunedin. Home to around 18 residents on any given day, this facility is a home away from home. Mostly all rooms are double occupancy . I noticed two staff members singing with the residents for the Holidays. The entire facility was decorated for Christmas in a very tasteful way. I personally thought that the building itself could have used a little update. The outside was clean, and simple. This place is small enough to be very personable yet big enough to have a great diversity. Defiantly worth taking a look at.
