Colorado Springs, Colorado, is at the base of Pikes Peak, 60 miles south of Denver. U.S. News stated Colorado Springs ranked number 3 in 2019 as the best place to live in the United States and number 33 as the best place to retire. With a population of 464,470 people of which nearly 83,600 are 60 or older, Colorado Springs offers community programs that provide transportation via local transit discounts, volunteers and nonprofit groups for those encumbered by oxygen machines, wheelchairs or guide dogs. The nearby foothills and mountains offer never-ending hiking, biking and fishing to active, nature-loving seniors, and the good air quality index makes spending time outdoors a true breath of fresh air.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
