This is a board and care home in Concord, about a half hour east of San Francisco. It opened about 10 years ago, and I've had a number of clients there over the years. It's very homey; it just has a wonderfully homey atmosphere. This is a place where you walk in, and there are cookies baking in the oven and fresh flowers on the table. It's also spacious. They also have the most attentive staff of any board and care home I've ever seen. There's no turnover--ever. The staff is encouraged to get involved in the local community, and several volunteer for the local hospice. I've seen nothing but very attentive and involved 1:1 care. Most of the residents have moderate to advanced dementia, and the staff know their clients well. They're also very welcoming to family and friends. On top of that, the food is excellent--home cooked meals. And the activities are very 1:1, customized to each resident.
