Carmichael is not a big city, but this Sacramento community has more senior residential care facilities than any other similar-sized community in Northern California. Over 51 percent of Carmichael’s residents are age 40 or older, and more than 17,000 of the town’s 66,000 residents are past their 60th birthdays. Seniors who enjoy the comfortable Mediterranean climate Sacramento offers can spend a lot of time outdoors, even in November and March, when temperatures average 65 degrees with little rain. Regional Transit, the local bus and rail provider, offers half-off discounts for riders age 62 and older. One place seniors enjoy in Carmichael is the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course, which hosts the Senior & Super Senior Men’s Championship in May.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
