"I'm living in Atria Carmichael Oaks for two and a half years now. So far, it's been fine. I like the residents here, and the staff is very kind. The apartments are adequate, and they keep them very clean. It's a nice place. They have facilities for laundry if you want, or they'll do it for you for a small fee. They have a dining hall. The food is not top-notch, but it is adequate. They also try to have activities that interest us and so forth. I like this place. We have a problem right now because we have balconies in the independent living and a bunch of them have been condemned. They haven't decided what they're going to do about that. The place looks very pretty, and they keep the grounds nice. However, they have just discovered structural damage to the balconies on one side of the building a week ago. For amenities, they show movies once a week. They have a library, an exercise room, and an adequate dining room. They have a couple of clubs like crocheting, beadwork, and various things like that. They're more than willing to help residents organize clubs that they don't have. They take scenic drives about every other week. We have certain days that they'll take us to the doctor and certain days that they'll take us shopping. However, they charge way too much money for what we're getting. California is priced ridiculously. It is way overpriced. "

"I liked Winding Commons. I liked that it was smaller and quaint. I liked the rooms looking out onto the river. There was a little fountain area. I liked that most of the rooms had an outside area. The patios have a little bit more room where you can put chairs and plants. The staff was very nice and answered all our questions. They have a nice outdoor patio where you can eat."

"I have been in Atria for three weeks now and it is very nice, clean, and spacious, and the staff is very nice. So far so good though. I do not like the spaciousness of the hallways; it’s hard to find your way around. When you are first here, they need someone to be with you a lot to let you know where you are going and what you’re doing. I would sign up for this and what to do with that. They have what they call ambassadors, but I have only seen one, one time. I would say my stay is fair as I am in independent living and there is so little that they can do for you here, but I have people come in from the outside. They have bingo. "

"My grandmother lives in the Carlton Plaza in Sacramento and words cannot describe how satisfied both she and the rest of my family are with this establishment. Like most people I was scared to leave her in a "home" but this place is absolutely wonderful. The staff seem very friendly and eager to please. They always seem to be in a good mood. The facilities and amenities this place has to offer are excellent. The dining area seems more like a restaurant than a cafeteria and the living room is luxurious to say the least. I was worried that the residents of this place would have nothing to do and be bored all day but that is certainly not the case here. They provide entertainment many nights and their movie theater is top notch. The healthcare here seems to be top notch and the attention my grandmother receives is excellent. All in all I truly believe my grandmother is happier here than she had been at her previous home. "

"My mom has moved into Golden Pond Retirement Community. She has only been there for two days. Overall, things have been very good. Every member of the staff that I met was very welcoming and very nice. They were willing to answer questions and patient with all the questions. They were all very nice. My mom is in a 1-bedroom apartment, and it is a little outdated, but very spacious. It is a good size. It has a spacious front room, and the kitchen has a lot of storage. I think they have a great menu with a lot of really good and healthy food. We have their calendar of events, and they have a lot of variety of entertainment and artwork. She is very comfortable there. They are very attentive to her needs and very quick to respond if she needs anything."

"Campus Commons was very comfortable. The people were extremely friendly and would just gather themselves together, not necessarily in planned activities, like ladies getting together after lunch playing a game in an alcove on the floor. It was nice. It was on the older side because it was built in 1976, but it was a warm place with beautiful grounds. I thought it was a great location. They had exercise, outdoor and indoor activities, and a gardening club. The food was OK, but the selection wasn't great."

"My girlfriend lives at Blossom Vale Senior Living, so I know the place very well. I like the meals and the close community thing. One thing I don't like now is since the new owners took over, the prices have gone up over $1,000, so I can't afford that. It's a nice community. They provide meals. They do your laundry once a week. They do cleaning of the rooms once a week. They have a workout room. They have different activities during the week, like bingo or different things to watch if you want. They have happy hour with live entertainment. The staff is good. The food is good. The dining room and the food setup are nice, and they have quite a variety. They take care of the place. She's paying quite a bit less because she's been there several years. She's happy there."

"Oakmont of East Sacramento was a very nice facility. It was large. It seemed to be appropriately staffed. All of the residents seemed very happy and taken care of. The quality of the food looked good. There looked to be a high number of activities that were also diverse. The place was very clean-looking and in a good neighborhood. I think the only bad thing is it's really expensive. The staff was very prepared in terms of everything they were presenting, like all of the literature and all of the information that one would need when starting this process. She was also very quick with answering any questions that I had. It was just a very thorough tour and very well organized. They have a small gym, a nice little walking area, and a movie theater. It was just nice."

"We chose Eskaton FountainWood Lodge because it seemed to be a professionally-run organization. It's a large community and fully-staffed. We thought that this is the best pick for my mother. Another thing is that it is the closest one that we could find. They have a full kitchen. They not only have regular menu, but you can also have an alternate menu. If you feel like having a burger, you can have a burger. They have a lot of variety. They're trying to work a lot on their activities too. People have peculiar needs, and they're trying to fulfill them."

"I was very impressed with The Terraces of Roseville. The staff gave me information on how to finance my dad's housing when he gets to assisted living. It was nice. It was probably the place I would have chosen for my dad. That's just because they also include assisted living and the price was more affordable than the other place. I didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff, but those that I did interact with were very nice. The rooms were nice. However, the studio apartments felt more like hotel rooms than actual apartments. I didn't like the idea that instead of having a regular-sized refrigerator, they had just a mini fridge and it was on the floor. With an elderly person trying to bend down and use that refrigerator, it would be pretty difficult. I liked the other rooms. It was just their studio apartment was a little bit too small and not as user-friendly as an apartment. The atmosphere seemed very friendly. It was nice that they have a dog park area in the middle of their community. The nice thing, too, was that all of their garden areas were enclosed. You had to be a resident there or know a resident to get into the common areas. It was nice that the dogs don't have to be on a leash in this dog park area that they have. The lady who was talking to me called me a couple of times afterward. She was very informative. Whenever I had questions, she would answer them. I told her that we were going to go see another place. She called me afterward to ask how it had gone. I thought that was very nice. She reached out. That impressed me. If my dad had not chosen the other place, I probably would have chosen The Terraces for him just because of her. Some residents took the time to talk to me about the place and how wonderful it was. It was perfectly clean and everything, but it just felt like there were areas that probably needed a facelift or a little remodel, just to make it look fresh again. It seemed like a very nice community. I was impressed that it was in a nice area. It wasn't right on the street, so it was quiet when you went in there. It was the very first place I went to go see, so I was kind of in awe of everything."

"We had chosen WellQuest of Granite Bay for my mom. The tour was good. I was very impressed with it. They showed us a unit. We're going to bring in our own furniture though. They're very nicely equipped, but in memory care, they don't have a kitchen. They have a very nice outdoor area. They even take the residents out on walks. They have trails, and they can do exercises in the heated swimming pool. The dining room is amazing, and the food is really good. And, as a participant, you can pay for lunch or dinner and then you can have a meal with your parent. The staff who toured us was great. She was very knowledgeable. There's nothing available right now, so we are on a waiting list for memory care. It's fine though because we don't want to do it till July anyway. It's pretty brand new, so everything is nice. I also like that outside each door, there's a little showcase where the residents can put in their memorabilia, so they can find their room, and in the memory care they always have somebody with them. I think that's pretty nice to have that."

"We toured Sequoia Grove Gracious Retirement Living. I felt like they were selling me a timeshare. The lady explained it and she's the salesperson. She said they're a corporation, and once the facility is at 92% full, she's out of there and moves on to the next one. The administration there was very nice and she sat down and talked with us for a long time about things I like. She showed us 4 or 5 different floor plans and that was nice. And the dining room is fabulous. It has white tablecloths, white cloth napkins, and tall water glasses. And I said, wow, I feel like I've got to get dressed up to come down here and eat. And she said, "No, no, no. We just don't want pajamas and slippers and all that". But I thought it seemed like they spent more money in the dining room than needed. They didn't have a pet fee or a community fee, which is nice. You can have a vehicle, it's no charge, and internet, cable, and all that wi-fi are included, but the rooms, the one-bedroom I looked at that was on the internet for $3,795 was $5,100. And I said, what happened to $3,795 and she said, well, those are other floor plans and we can show you some. They didn't all have balconies. Some of them were just a French door out to a little cement patio. It was very high-end, very expensive, and everything was beautiful. They have a nice, authentic theater. We spoke to a few residents and they were very displeased with the administration. One of the residents pointed in the direction of the lady who was touring us. The lady wasn't there with us that time, but she said "That administration, I don't like them. " For example, she said, I had a Christmas wreath on my door and they complained about it and said I had to take it down. The week before that, they had a contest on door decorations. It could've been that she doesn't get along with them. We just had that one opinion, but that was before we got the tour. And by the time the tour was over, I looked at my daughter and she looked at me. I said I could see what that lady was talking about. They're very pushy. I can't tell you how many times she said, so which one are you comfortable in? And then she's telling me that she can make a deal. She said now, if you don't see me, next time you come in here, you won't get a deal because I can tinker with the prices. I can give you a couple of months, three months, I think she said, or $1,000 off. She was going to make deals like freezing your rent for two years and saying, I can give discounts on things. And she said, but when I'm gone after it's 92% full you won't get those discounts. And she kept saying, if you see one you like, put $100 on it. We'll keep an eye on it. She didn't want me to leave without getting some money from me, and that to me was like a timeshare thing. She was very friendly and very nice, and she wasn't rude or anything, just a little aggressive and pushy."

"I went to a tour in Roseville Commons. But my love one ended up with me since he wasn't ready to move in any kind of facility yet. So he's with me since December. We're fine. I remember when we visited the place I met the one director and I tour the facility. It is a really nice place. If I was in the same situation I would not have any problem going there. It looks more like a nice hotel. For elderly people who want some independence it's literally right behind a shopping center so they can walk there easily. It's so close and get their vegetables in the grocery and whatever else they might need. I only went 1 day but based on what I saw my self and looking at the people who were living there and all their smiles. They seems to be really happy. I would definitely recommend Roseville Commons to others. "

"It is a place where you go in as independent living and you don't have to move out of your apartment if you need assisted living. The room has a tea kitchen. It just has a sink and a counter space, a refrigerator, and a microwave. They have washers and dryers and they have cleaning every week. They provide all of your food and they have some programs and movies and happy things to do. They have a gym and a beauty shop. It's very small. There are only 115 or 120 residents. There were studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom and they're small, but that's fine. The staff was wonderful, energetic, and has all the information. She was very good. The food was good."

"It was very pleasant. The only reason why I didn't pick them is because my aunt wanted a downstairs unit and they only had third floor units available, and their apartments were very small. Otherwise, they're a definite 5-star facility. The amenities and everything is beautiful. The people were very nice, and it's a beautiful place."
