Timonium is a family-friendly city in Baltimore County with bicycle-friendly roads and seven parks that are open daily. Approximately 2,900 seniors call the city home. With excellent hospitals, convenient transportation and tax breaks for those who qualify, Timonium is a good choice for some seniors looking for a place to retire.
Assisted living communities are one long-term care option for those who need assistance with daily living but prefer to live as independently as possible. These communities offer nursing care, prepared meals, housekeeping and medication management services. Most also have a calendar of activities to keep seniors engaged. The average cost of assisted living communities in Timonium is $5,000 per month. This is the same as the state average but more than the national average.
This guide discusses the cost of assisted living throughout the state as well as the costs for other types of care. It also covers several programs and services that cater to seniors in the area.

The buildings, the grounds, the staff, and the inside are very nice, including the cleanliness, the apartment, the furniture, the common areas, the way they are set up. The food was very good. My mom has been in Brightview Mays Chapel Ridge. It was not the cheapest, but every time I went there the residents seemed pretty engaged. They had a lot of activities going on, and the people looked happier. It just seemed like the best environment for my mother.
My mom has a certain amount of dementia. Her short-term memory is not good, but she can still function. She still walks, she still showers, and she does all that stuff. She’s not in memory care, but we wanted to have memory care because that could be the path she’s heading towards at some point. She’s in assisted living. For the most part, I like the staff. They’re always friendly and helpful. I have a few complaints, but overall, my mom’s happy, and that’s the most important thing. They say they tried to get her involved doing activities, but I don’t know how much they push it. I keep on telling them to try to get my mom out doing things and being more active, so I don’t know how much they push. Overall, I’m happy. I’m complaining, but overall, I’m happy. They are supposed to do laundry on Wednesdays and Sundays, and that doesn’t always get done, so I’ve had to complain about that a few times. But she loves the food, and she loves the staff.
For the most part, it’s been a good experience. The staff is good. The food is great. They have like a happy hour every day. The place is clean. The staff is friendly. The staff gets along with my mom. My mom likes the staff. She’s happy. They have bingo, they play some card games that she likes. There’s some big screen TV downstairs and they show some things on England that she likes to go to every week. She doesn’t drink, but they have a happy hour in the pub every day with hors d’oeuvres, and she likes to go down there and socialize. She really likes that. That’s probably the main one.

The rooms are beautiful, beautifully well-kept, well designed, and efficient. The rooms that I saw were equipped with their own cooking areas. My mom could do her own cooking and cleaning. The residents are encouraged to be independent and do as much as they can do according to their own abilities. They have many activities for them to do. They were doing some entertaining activities that they’ve participated in. They had some coming in, and they encouraged them to participate in. They always have something going on. The staff seems to be on point as far as having things well in place for them to keep them active. The meals are included in the fee that you pay. She didn’t care for the food, so she was not a big fan of the food. I thought that it was OK.

My father moved into Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing the day after Thanksgiving. We chose this because my dad was able to see it himself, he was not able to see the other place. So I feel like we chose this one because he had a little bit of a say in where he wanted to go. It’s very nice, cozy, and friendly. The staff is extremely friendly. He enjoyed his visit there, we had lunch, and he enjoyed the food, so he said he preferred to go there. It looks very nice, it’s very kept up, it’s decorated for the Holidays. They had decorations for Thanksgiving, and since then I’ve seen decorations for Hanukkah and Christmas. I think everything is nice. They have daily activities for the residents. The one thing that we like is they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and their restaurant-looking cafe, and they prefer the residents to come and eat in person, so I like that. It keeps them motivated. They have, obviously, the nursing staff there that can help, and they have maintenance people on site for help with anything in the room.
One suggestion that I have is, my father moved into a room and the heat didn’t work. He didn’t have hot water his first day. So while maintenance and everybody has come in and are working on the issue, it was a little bit of a bummer to have my dad move into a unit that was cold and the heater didn’t work. The whole building is heated, so he wasn’t like out on the streets, and they did bring a space heater in for him. So, the people are very good. It just is a bummer to pay all that money and have a room that wasn’t ready.

It’s just that it was, it’s for the rich, it was very expensive. But if we had the money, it would have been worth the care. I believe she would have had good care there. Everybody was awesome. The young lady, Gloria, that did the tour was phenomenal. They were very, very helpful, very resourceful, gave me all of the information I needed, and were very attentive to our needs. They were awesome. Anybody that goes there, they’ll see that. They were really good. They gave us flowers. They had a shower area with a bed and a little area where she could sit. It had a little refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink. They had an outdoor courtyard, no pool, and a courtyard where they had little activity, she even told me about the different activities. They took them out, they had bingo night, she showed me the little area where they eat, the little dining room. She showed me the whole facility.

I liked Lighthouse Senior Living at Hopkins Creek, I thought it was very nice and pleasant. The marketing director gave me a wonderful tour. It seemed a lot bigger to me than it looked from the outside. I liked that they had a couple of different rooms, different types, and styles of rooms. I like this facility better than the other one I toured, but it’s just relative. I thought it has more open spaces in the building itself, and the furnishings were more set up for and conducive for people to gather as a community there, and talk and chat. It’s very clean, very excellent and set up better to me than the other place. It’s funny because I read their reviews online, and I wasn’t as impressed with one of the bad reviews, but I decided to keep an open mind and I like the Lighthouse better. The staff was introduced to me as we went, and a couple of nurses and a couple of other people like the activities director. The activities were listed, there were numerous activities that I could be involved in. It just seemed like it was a more active community.

The Angel Core Home of Care was great. Everybody had their own room. It was perfect. It’s Angela’s home; it was her place. It was so much like home. They had individual rooms, which is great. Her spot was great. She has a nice big yard. For different holidays, she has it all nicely scheduled. I thought the place was awesome. She has a ramp. She has it where you can actually sit in a chair and then it takes you straight up the steps. So if you’re scared that you might fall going up the steps, she has this automatic belt thing where it rides you up the steps. She has it laid out. I was impressed. If anybody is looking for something, that’s a nice place. It’s for assisted living because they got to schedule the food, and they clean up their rooms. It was for all. Everything is 5 like the cleanliness and the schedule. It’s an open-door for the family to come and visit. The staff were helpful. They had activities. They were doing some activities with some seniors. The meals are breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a schedule on the wall that shows what they have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I toured Community Caregivers Assisted Living. Marché was very knowledgeable in what she was telling me. They were very clean, the rooms were very clean, and just upon entering the home, it was clean. It was a nice atmosphere, though I can’t gauge anything because I didn’t see any residents there. I didn’t see any food cooking. She told me that they had a place where they had fresh fruit all the time, and she showed me everything, and she was very open with her tour. I like what she said about how they assist the residents, no matter what, even if they are a little independent. I just didn’t like the steps, they were kind of steep.

They had a van, where they take patients out to the grocery store, and take them to doctor visits. It’s very clean. He showed me a courtyard where they do cookouts, and they do outside activities with the clients.

My mother has stayed there now for almost a year. Clean environment. Friendly staff. Happy we were able to get her in this place.
