"My grandmother moved to Two Hearts Homes for Seniors - Crown Point. It's a small community of only 15 bedrooms. The number of caregivers to residents ratio is awesome. The caregivers there make the food for the residents. It's got a big open-concept kitchen, dining room, and living room, so they all eat together in that same room. They watch TV together. It's family-owned and operated. The owners have been great to work with. The administrative team has been great to work with. It's more of a home setting than a facility setting. It's just a family vibe. The staff is very outgoing and tends to go above and beyond. There's a small number of residents. So, they can take the time to get to know the people. It's very intimate. The facility is clean. The facility is brand new. They just sent me a picture of my grandma painting a coaster today. The whole building is in the shape of a U. At the bottom of the U is like the living room, the kitchen, and everything else. Then the branches of the U, the one bedroom, the large studio apartments, and they have a nice bathroom and nice-sized high ceilings."

"My mother is in St. Anthony Home. She seems happy there, and she is in the Alzheimer's ward. They're really good to the people, and they call them by name. She seems content, and she has been there for a couple of months now. We like it because she's familiar with it and it is attached to the hospital. It is a Catholic nursing home where she can go to mass four times a week. They're all single rooms. It's an older place, but they keep it up nicely. They have a really nice area on the main floor -- which is a big living room -- but they should have small private areas for family. There aren't a lot of places to go. The staff is absolutely wonderful. "

"My mother hasn't been in there long, but what we've seen so far looked fine. It's a beautiful place. The staff seemed like they're happy with their job. My mother loves the food, and she has been raving about it. They made ribs, she has never had ribs at the other place, they had fish, and she said it was the best fish she has ever had. They have a whirlpool tub she is excited about over there. They have a nice roofed over area that she can sit outside with really big comfy chairs to sit in. They have flowers and a little bridge, and her new room looks out at the courtyard. You have to put in a code to get in and get out, so it seems more secure to us than what she had before. I can't imagine anything that they don't have or don't do. They're staff is wonderful. The nursing is excellent. She is getting her medicines on time and right. They have a beauty shop there, and when she wants to get her hair done, she can just wait in her room, and they come and get her. She found people she knew, so she is very happy. She said it's so much less stressful to have less people in the dining room, and it's a little more toned down. They do activities, but there's not so much chaos going on -- not a lot of people all over. She just loves Bickford of Crown Point, and we're very happy. "

"My mother is at Crown Point Christian Village. She is still in the quarantine. The staff is good. I've heard no complaints. The food is good. She is not in her permanent room yet because she is in the quarantine area before they move her into a regular room. It is in a transition. I've heard no complaints about it from my mother, so I take that as a good thing. People are not allowed in there yet. Everything is on lockdown. There are no activities. From the outside, it looks great. I like it. It looks really good. It looks professional and clean. They have a lot of safety protocols, so it is all good. I'm just glad we were able to get her somewhere because a lot of places were full or too far away. We got her in a facility, which is a good thing. The staff communicates with us, so that's a positive. The staff is OK. I would recommend anybody in this situation that is placing a loved one anywhere, it is essential that that person has a cell phone. Typically, that's their only communication to the outside world. The staff is good. They answer our questions, and they engage us in conversation, so it is good."

"My dad as lived in assisted living at Deer Creek for 6 months. He is VERY happy here. And we, his children, are are also quite pleased with everyone and everything that DC represents. Having been through the nursing home experience with my mother, I was a bit skeptical of any facility. Well, Deer Creek quickly changed my mind. I can't say enough good things about them and that's the honest truth. When people ask my father what he thinks about living here, the first thing he says is how wonderful the staff is and provides examples, and I can attest to this. I visit for a couple of hours at a time 3-4 times per week. The ENTIRE staff is RESPECTFUL, friendly, kind, caring and professional. AND helpful; I haven't observed staff or visitors running the other direction when a resident is in need of some help. The nurses and CNAs are the very best. They provide me with peace of mind knowing my dad is under their care. Staff is consistently pleasant and upbeat! So far, I haven't detected when staff is having a bad day--really. The maintenance staff are awesome, too! They have made some modifications to my father's apartment to better meet his needs, for example, added an extra grab bar in the bathroom as well as removed the lamp shades in his bathroom so the light would be brighter. I've eaten many meals at DC; the food is exceptional and my father thinks so as well. One of the meals he looks forward to is having a bowl of their homemade soup everyday. The desserts are out of this world. My father's apartment is clean, the garbage cans are emptied twice a day, bed linens and clothing are washed per his schedule. He is bathed twice a week as well. He gets his hair and fingernails cut at the DC salon, which is a huge help to me. As my father tells everyone who asks, "There is always something to do, if you want to do it". There are activities planned throughout the day, 7 days per week (the activity schedule is actually followed). He's into music and has praised the musical performances of those who have entertained them to date. The family nights are fun and something our family enjoys participating in. My father and I have developed a fond affection for the staff and residents at Deer Creek. I hope you come for a visit and experience the same things. "

"Heritage Woods of Manteno is great. Mom is enjoying it. She enjoys being around other people and having places where she can walk indoors that's safe. She's doing great, and we like it. People do the laundry for her, but she has the opportunity to do her own. There's a little library and she's making use of that. She enjoys the hair salon, making new friends, and plays bingo. The food is very good with lots of variety and good choices and she's enjoying it."

"The Residences at Coffee Creek was wonderful. They had everything there. The staff member was very helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms were beautiful and adequate for the residents' needs. Everything was new, clean, and up-to-date. The dining area was very nice. They had puzzle and crafts rooms. They try to do the activities according to the person's intellectual capabilities. They have a TV room, and they take the residents places."

"Bickford of Tinley Park was very nice. The staff was very good, very helpful, and very thorough in explaining everything. The dining area was very nice and roomy. "Tinley Court was nice. What I didn't like about it is that they didn't offer places with kitchens in it. I can get used to not having to cook, but if I want to do something for myself, then I can't do it. The person who took me around was very nice. They have a full menu, and they change the menu every week. They keep the place clean. They had one-bedroom apartments. It was nice, but it wasn't for me. There were no kitchen facilities available or anything like that. They had an area out front, and people were sitting there when I came in and took the tour. She said there was another one out there, so you can also sit outside. They have scheduled activities all the time. They always offer something. They have a community room where you can go and play games with other people and stuff like that."

"My husband was at Symphony of Crown Point. It was a great and very upscale facility. The staff was very friendly. When you enter the building, there was a cozy and warm feeling. The fireplace would be lit if it was a cool day. The chef was phenomenal, and the food was very tasty. The activities were great. The rooms were wonderful because they were relatively new. That is more of a "from hospital to a home" facility, although upstairs it did have an assisted living section. The therapists were phenomenal. I lived there with him and I slept in the recliner. He damaged his motor skills, arms and legs, so he needed someone to assist him, but I didn't expect them to do that 24 hours a day."

"We liked Wittenberg better. It is independent living, nursing home, and skilled nursing care. It is really good. The staff is really attentive. They call whenever there is a medication change. They were friendly when they sat down with us. They weren't all about money upfront, and they care more about the patient. The food is good, and my mom likes it. She's in a shared room with someone. The room is kept clean, and she can hang stuff on the wall. "

"A friend of mine lives in Park Place at St. John, so I know about the place from visiting her. She's in independent living. It's nice, they offer meals, and activities. The apartment she's in is really nice too, and the staff was really nice. They have the dining room where you sit and order your food, things like that. It has amenities, and stuff like that, it's very nice too. My friend is in a one-bedroom, with a nice, large bathroom. The living room is a nice size, and the bedroom is a nice size. The closet is a little walk-in closet, and the shower is very nice. She has someone that comes and cleans once a week. Everything's included, I believe, except for your phone bill. The cable is included. It's very nice, and she really likes it. She had a duplex home, and she downsized a little bit to that, and she really likes it. She doesn't miss taking care of a home. I've actually had dinner with her a couple of times. They can have a guest there, and you pay a little fee, I think it's $10 or $12, and you can sit down in the dining room and have dinner with them. So, I've done that, and that was nice. The staff greets you at the door; they were very nice. She goes to aerobics classes, they have arts and crafts that I've seen, and they have a bible study. I think she pays under $3,000 a month to stay there."

"I toured Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village. It was very nice, and it is close to me. I have no negative things about the place itself. The main problem was just trying to get an appointment for a tour. They have a lot more residents. They were a little bit busy and not as available to me, but they were attending to the patients, so I was OK with that. There are no hospitals nearby. There's restaurants and whatnot locally right there."

"We have chosen Belvedere Senior Housing in Merrillville for mom. It's clean and updated. It's a brand new facility, and they've got very helpful staff and happy residents. They had studios and 1-bedroom apartments. Everything was first class. It looked great. They had a beautiful courtyard and a lot of the apartments have a patio going out to this courtyard, and it looked nice. The staffers were very helpful and are continuing to be as far as getting my mother admitted over there once she's done with her physical therapy."

"I went to Virginia Place. It was nice, nice setup, looked good, smelled good, and the rooms looked nice and clean. I did like the place. I think it's privately owned because they don't accept Medicare at all. I like Susan. She was nice. She did a really good job of explaining everything. It's a really nice tour. It's very impressive. It was very clean. All the apartments have kitchenettes because you get three meals a day, but they have like they have a little setup with a microwave, a small refrigerator, and a little coffee maker where you can make coffee in your room."
