Here at the Gardens of Castle Hills, we aspire to create a dementia-friendly environment: Use memory aids such as clocks with large numbers, easy-to-read appointment calendars with large letters and numbers, or daily schedules or menu boards to remind residents about mealtimes. We Limit distractions by serving meals in quiet surroundings, away from the television and other distractions. Keep the table setting simple and avoid patterned plates, tablecloths, and napkins. Encourage independence by offering utensils that the residents will need.
We also encourage socialization by getting involved in conversations with the residents and encouraging them to interact with each other. Minimize eating and nutrition problems by offering a balanced diet with a variety of foods.

In the active world that we live in, our elderly residents are no different than the succeeding generations in that they want to be as active as possible and involved in as many activities as their physical limitations allow. Bingo and Dominoes are a given. We also have our versions of popular TV gameshows they are so familiar with. Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud to name just a few of the games they play. All of these active social interactions stimulate brain and muscle memories.
Outside, our gardening club can be seen digging in the dirt and planting bulbs and seeds. The planning and execution of these ideas all aid in the creation of new feelings, thoughts, and memories. Often this type of activity can occupy the mind for so long it may reduce the use of anxiety and agitation medication for some residents.

Pets of all kinds can be very important to our residents.  Dogs, cats, birds, even fish can bring comfort and companionship.  The management at The Gardens of Castle Hills is very serious when it comes to our resident's needs and desires.  With this in mind, we work with each resident and family to ensure pets are well taken care of.  If the resident is unable, we will do everything we can to add services to help assist in the care of the special pet.

The Gardens is close to hospitals,  doctor offices, parks, two shopping malls, HEB, Walmart.  Less than a mile from the 410 HWY The Gardens of Castle Hills is close to the Riverwalk, museums, Almo, and too many restaurants to count.

The Gardens of Castle Hills hosts a wide variety of activities, social events, and outings to meet the needs of our residents.  Card games, religious services,  cooking club, arts and crafts, social gatherings, trips to Zoo, Mall, too many locations to mention.

We are in almost constant contact with the families of our residents by email, phone, or in person at any number of monthly events we hold on the community grounds. We also have wellness plan meetings that keep our families updated on their loved ones' overall health and well-being.

The Gardens of Castle Hills van transports residents to appointments of all kinds and group outings.  Our residents enjoy Country Drives and traveling to sight-seeing locations near and around San Antonio.  Holiday decorations viewing, parades, or just going for a weekend drive, court residents enjoy getting out.

The Gardens of Castle Hills is a gated community with staff 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  All exterior doors are locked at night and entering the property after hours requires a staff member.  A new Nurse Call System with pendants was installed in February of 2022.

From exercise classes to mind-challenging trivial The Gardens of Castle Hills offers many activities to help stay alert and active.   With three meals a day plus all the other treats provided we have the energy to participate in a variety of fun activities.

The Gardens of Castle Hills provides many specialized diets for personal or health reasons.  However, the real secret to our dining success is the amazing group of people that cook each meal from scratch.  The Gardens of Castle Hills serves outstanding soups, amazing entrees, and out-of-this-world desserts.  Out Director of Dining Services has been at this property for over 19 years serving our residents with special attention to detail.  Just to keep things interesting we mix it up with outdoor Texas Style BBQ and patio parties.  This is something you will need to experience first-hand to really appreciate.
