This place is Ahhhmazing! My mother did NOT want to be placed in a nursing home, but desperately needed help! I went in not knowing what to expect but was soooooo pleasantly surprised. The staff is caring, attentive, supportive, and you can tell they all have the heart for these patients. My mom loves the staff and has made several friends since her admission. Do yourself a favor and take your loved ones to Heartland if you ever need a skilled facility :)

Upon first entering this facility, it was not what we were expecting. It’s an older building but you can tell they are in the middle of small renovations. The staff on the 3rd floor were welcoming and treated my mom with respect immediately. It was later in the evening when she was admitted and the first thing she was asked was if she had supper. When she said no, a staff member named Heather (whom my mom has come to love) asked her what she would like, to which she replied a burger and fries from McDonald’s. They didn’t have to do that but it was ordered and mom really enjoyed it. The staff have continued to go above and beyond during her stay. I can’t say we are going to miss her being in the nursing home, but we are glad she will be returning home to us. Therapy has worked hard with her to ensure she has regained the strength she needs to be as independent as possible. The nurses, techs, nurse managers and director always were able to answer our questions and resolve any concerns we had. The housekeeping department kept her room very clean. Cedrick, I think was his name, always carries on conversations with her when he’s cleaning. The girl in laundry made sure she found any missing clothing and labeled them. The dietary department does their best, but it’s hard to satisfy the taste buds of 60 people. Overall this has been quite an adventure and the Heartland staff have helped us as a family navigate it well.

The staff took a really good care of my loved one. Everyone from housekeeping and dietary to nursing and administration were very attentive and demonstrated compassion. Management seems to be very involved and supportive of their staff. When we did express our concerns, they quickly resolved them to our satisfaction. Our father was very pleased and stated that he would recommend Lakeshore Heartland to everyone.

My father was admitted to Lakeshore in 2018. He went through an adjustment period which the nurses and other staff were so understanding and patient with him. They took his concerns seriously and seemed to jump at the chance to solve them and make him happy. They always took EXCELLENT care of him and seemed to love him like he was their relative. The activities weren’t something he was interested in when he got there but the director came in the same day he was admitted and changed/added a few activities to meet his wants and needs. He made friends there and keeps in touch with a few other residents even though he’s back home now. He has made it very clear he won’t go anywhere else if he ever needs help again. I am so thankful to the staff for making my dad feel so loved and especially the therapy dept. for helping him get well enough to go home for a while longer. We looked at several other places but are so happy we chose Heartland. A few other buildings looked more modern or better decorated but no other facility would have taken better care of him.

My mother in law was recently a patient at Lakeshore Heartland. She was treated very kindly from the day she rolled inuntil the day she passed. The staff was super friendly and did everything that was asked of them, without hesitation. Her call light was always answered very timely and the person answering it always had a smile on their face. The staff became her 2nd family. When she passed, the love continued as staff members showed up to her viewing/funeral. We can never truly thank the staff at Lakeshore Heartland for the wonderful care and love that was shown to not only my mother in law, but to our whole family.

I love, love, love this facility and their staff!!! They have taken such great care of my grandmother! She loves living there! They have excellent food and activities all day long! They go on outings in the community every Thursday including movies, shopping, lunch, etc. I can’t tell you the peace of mind I have knowing such caring and loving individuals are caring for her.

My mother spent the last weeks of her life with Heartland. The staff were wonderful. They treated my mother and my whole family with love and support. They answered her call light promptly and she called them her friends. I would recommend this group to anyone looking for a place full of loving staff.

Consistently understaffed. Told me they meet state guidelines, and they may, but legal guidelines are not the same as ethical guidelines. I was there when state inspectors showed up for a surprise visit. Nursing staff that you never see out of their offices were quickly notified and were on the floor pretending to be part of the staff within minutes! Normally, there is a single nurse responsible for 40+ patients. Secondly, it is so hot inside during the summer, it can be as high as 85°F in the hallways. Maintenance says this, too, is within guidelines. He has an air conditioned office & I'm sure has a different set of "guidelines" for himself. One, hot, summer day, a group of residents were in wheelchairs lining both sides of the cramped hallway. I watched as the activities department passed out a few dry washcloths and some old dish towels for them to fold. Others were provided a single balloon to bat in the air. This was called an "activity". My loved one was not unhappy there, but had she been more cognizant of her surroundings, no doubt she would have been.

I took the word of a friend whose mother had been at Lakeshore Heartland 6 years before. Evidently, a lot of changes happened in those 6 years. My mother has dementia. I mentioned to them probably 10 times that she's going to try to leave when she gets agitated. They said it's fine, they'll put a Wanderguard on her leg and we won't have any problems. 10 days later they called me and said she got out, got to the street, out in cold weather, fell, and couldn't get up. They never put the Wanderguard on her leg. They never knew she was missing. I had to take her out. When I took her back, they argued with me that they couldn't put a Wanderguard on her leg because she didn't have a doctor's order. And then after that, she started having seizures, lost any cognitive ability, and it was like day and night. The facility is in a very old building. It wasn't cleanest in the world, but it wasn't filthy. It looked like an old nursing home. Mom was only there for two weeks. They took the deposit, everything, and then they never even said "I'm sorry, we messed up." She was in a very small semi-private room with old, deteriorating beds. I'm just sorry it took me that long to get her out. She would not eat. She was on a special diet. She went from a size 16 to size 12 in one month. Her leg started swelling up, and she had blood clots. They said they couldn't get her to eat.

The care that they gave to my mother in this facility was wonderful. I was able to speak with a doctor when I needed to find out about her care and what the plan was to improve her quality of life. She was able to really enjoy the rest of the time she had left, and we were all able to join in because they worked so hard to keep her active. The nurses are very knowledgeable and able to explain complex procedures and illnesses to us in a way that we could all grasp.

This facility is not the biggest or the newest, but it is a place that took great care of my mother when she was a resident. The nurses were all so friendly and they always came into mom's room with a smile. When mom pushed the call light, someone came to her room within a minute. They kept her bed dry and clean, kept her adult diaper changed, and spent time to actually talk to us. I was very happy with the treatment our family received at Lakeshore.
