My wife is currently at the memory care facility of American House Brentwood in Nashville. The one thing I like least is the written documentation on events that are going on there. Most communications are not verbal. They seem to have lower-level staff on the weekends, too. I usually go by on Sunday at lunch, after going to church nearby. These employees don't seem to be well-trained and yell at the patients. For some, they're for a good reason, especially when the patients get up out of their wheelchairs unassisted. They yell to get them seated to avoid following injury. However, the ones who interacted with us were very helpful and offered lots of explanations. The staff members who showed me around during my tour were also cheerful, friendly, and kind. That is something I seldom saw there, though. My difficulty with being there is trying to find who does what and who controls things. The wellness director seems to be controlling, basically, everything that's going on, rather than other workers having control over different areas. It all seemed to be coordinated through the wellness director, which I did not understand at first. I initially talked to the other workers about problems when I should have been talking to the wellness director. The place was not nearly as clean as the other facility we looked at. They also do not have nearly as many employees there as they have at the other facility. There are very few activities, and they don't seem to have an organized program for the memory care patients. They're often left alone in the room. However, I wasn't there a lot to see some of the activities during the other hours of the day. It was often at mealtime when I would go by, and I saw very few activities. My wife is in a dual occupancy, and the room is awkward, with not much space at all. The side bed is against the wall, which I think is very awkward. I also tried some food early on, when my wife was first admitted. It was one meal, and it was not good. However, my wife required pureed food and thickened liquids, and all that seemed okay. She cleaned her plate at every meal.

I toured American House Brentwood. It's a very welcoming place. It's an older facility but it has been upgraded nicely. The greeting space, the offices, and the people were all lovely. You could tell they had a kinship to their residents. But I don't recall their memory facility being any different than the rest of the rooms that I walked through to get to them. I don't think there was anything unusual about their memory care. When someone vacates, they have to renovate the whole room. I had a little bit of a fear factor for that because you don't know what you're going to get, and you don't know how it's going to look. The staff who toured me was very nice, very welcoming, and very supportive. She wanted to hear all my questions. However, I felt that in some respects, they work very leanly. The outdoor area was beautiful. It wasn't as nice as the other place, but it had a nice feel to it. They had a lot of movies. When I was there, there was a whole movie group going on. It felt like they had the same kind of amenities. They seemed to have activities listed on their sheet, but I didn't see a lot of those activities when I was there.

American House in Brentwood was a very, very nice facility. The staff seemed warm and caring. The executive director gave me a tour and I felt very confident that she cared about the residents. They have a physical therapy room, a nice courtyard that the residents could go and sit in, and a room where there was a piano.

I had an in-person tour of American House Brentwood. I thought it was wonderful. I like the size of it. It's a small facility. It seems like a very caring place for an assisted living facility. It seems like a nice area. They have a beautiful courtyard. It's more of a family atmosphere. The staff was wonderful, very knowledgeable, and helpful. The facility seemed clean and very well cared for.

My mother is in here. Other than the fact that they've had COVID and she and everybody had to stay in their rooms a lot, she's very happy there. Right now, she's sort of on her own. They've been watching her because she's starting to have some memory problems, but she will have to go on to some assistance pretty soon, and they have it. It's not their fault that they have to move people because of COVID. The staff is excellent, very nice, and very sweet to her. I haven't had any trouble dealing with them. They've very nice to everybody. She's complaining about the food. They had a different chef and he was excellent, and the man they have now is not as perfect as she would like, but they have excellent food. She's doing very well and she's quite healthy, so I say the food is more than fine. They had activities, but right now they're down to bingo, which my mother is playing every day. They were doing all kinds of activities and crafts. They've had a couple of parades, even during this COVID. We just all drove by and honked our horns and waved and they were all sitting outside. They're doing their best with the COVID rules for the community. They're trying to keep them all entertained.

They are taking good care of my wife. She is slowly adapting to it, and it seems like it's her home now. The people are very friendly. They try to accommodate me when they can. They have some activities for the residents. At first, my wife was in a wheelchair and had to be pushed around, but today, she is walking. It is assisted living, but they have a memory care unit separate from assisted living. The food has been good so far. My wife has been eating it. The place is good, safe, clean, accommodating, and welcoming. They have activities going on for them every day.
