My mother is in Hickory Gardens for a month now. It's a smaller community, and there weren't that many residents for them to take care of. It was close to my dad, and he could get over to see her when he wanted to. It was cheaper than some of the other places. My mother is very picky, but she thinks the food is fine. When she first went in, she wasn't eating anything. They've gotten her eating really well now. As far as activities, she doesn't want to participate in anything. The staff is very helpful in telling me what's going on with her, what they've achieved with the care that she's receiving, and how well she's coming out to eat on her own now. They're really a good group of people. Her room is beautifully decorated with a twin bed and two chairs. It's really homey. She has a big walk-in closet, and she doesn't share the bathroom with anybody. It's a walk-in shower, where she can sit down to bathe. Everything about the room is really neat. The only thing we had to furnish was her personal items and the TV. They keep the rooms clean, and they did good housekeeping. They're very good; they don't really get aggravated with her. She's cooperating so much better with them.

Hickory Gardens felt homey and family-oriented. The apartments were really nice. I had no comments with the staff. I had eaten there, and the food was good. We were impressed with its family atmosphere, and everybody was nice.

When visiting this facility, the nurses were all so very nice and funny, too! This was the only facility that we visited where the staff really took the time to be friends with the patients it seemed. They would joke around with the patients, and give several of the male patients a hard time (in a friendly way) and you could tell that it made their day. The facility itself is nice and they keep it very clean.
