"When our neighbor who we used to enjoy 2 beers a day with while watching traffic or MeTV for to the point he could care for himself full-time and started with cognitive challenges/memory issues, I feared that going into a long term care (skilled nursing) facility was going to be the beginning of the end for him. No way was this 10-year widower going to accept the idea of sharing a room with another person and giving up almost all of his independence. Never did I believe it would be exactly what he needed to keep on thriving. Here we are, 6 months later, and he’s so very content every time we go to visit him. Still walking the halls and enjoying people watching, just at a different pace. And what we least expected, every single time we’ve visited with him, we’ve encountered nothing but friendly smiling faces, at every level. From the reception desk, to the nurses, the aides, and the activity coordinator setting up for game time in the cafeteria - it’s just been heartwarming to see the compassionate personal care and attention - even checking on him while he’s eating dinner in his room! Very impressed and I regret ever thinking this was not going to be the right move for him."

"My aunt stayed at Rehab at Shannondell. It was very good. I would give them a five across the board. It's new, but architecturally, it's a beautiful facility. She liked the food. It's a very active community. There's a lot of activities. They have a ballroom, so a lot is going on. It's very expensive though. She was there for rehabilitation and she stayed there for a little more than a month. The staff was very good and very professional. It's cost prohibitive to an extent."

"I toured Maplewood Estates. It's a very beautiful community. I did not eat there. It appears they're going to be building some more. They don't have a swimming pool but they do have some exercise rooms and stuff in their facility. They have two facilities. They have the old facility. They have the new sets of apartments, and then they have the cottages. They have a lot to offer. The staff dealt very well."

"My brother-in-law was approved for Medicaid, and also for Social Security disability, and he is in Fairlane Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation, so he's doing pretty well there. I think most of the people that are there are on Medicaid, and so far, I think that the care has been pretty good. My brother-in-law says that he likes it there. He thinks that they take good care of him. The appearance of it on the outside and inside is good. It's spacious. The cleanliness is good. The medical assistants are nice and helpful. When I'm there, they come in to check on my brother-in-law, which is good. And my brother-in-law says that the food is good."

"My dad is at The Meadows at Shannondell. The facility is very clean. My dad has been kept clean, and he seems very content. The staff members are very friendly and very attentive. Every day they have an activities person, and their activities look fun. His room is very clean, the bed is made, and there's no dirt or anything on the floor. The bathroom is clean. It's expensive, so I don't think everybody could afford to be there. But what they're paying for, they're getting good care."

"Meadowood retirement community is a sprawling retirement community located in beautiful Worcester Pennsylvania. This quiet, peaceful place is probably the nicest retirement community I have ever been to. About five years ago my aunt and uncle moved there, and they liked it so much that they convinced an uncle of mine from California to move all the way across the country to join them. Residents can choose between single, cottage style homes or stylish studio type apartments that have spacious rooms and wonderful views. Residents also have access to on site medical help, athletic facilities, and various cultural activities including an annual art show taking place this month. All in all, the community does a perfect job of providing the peace and comfort of country living with amenities that can match any high priced condominium you will find in down town Philadelphia. Meadowood was voted the best retirement community of Montgomery County in 2011, and I have no doubt that it will continue to be a leader in the field for many years to come. "

"I had a friends mom enter this rehab and nursing center. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and caring, food is very good and her mom recovered fully and would definitely recommend this community to others. "

"My husband did rehab at ProMedica Total Rehab. He just got out on Saturday. The care is good. They were just in there all the time with him and they brought his medications on time. It was a nice place and it's a newer one. My husband said the food was good. They don't share the food with the people coming to visit though so I have not tried it. He was in a private room with one bed, a good-sized TV on the wall, and a good-sized bathroom."

"I had a relative who stayed at Souderton Mennonite Homes, and it's a really great facility. Everybody wants to get in there because they're probably the least expensive of all the facilities. His little apartment was on the ground floor. It had a nice living room. They have a barbershop, a library, and a pool. It was clean and well maintained. They're a very caring community."

"We already have my dad placed at Lutheran Community. The rooms are wonderful in all levels, independent, personal care, skilled nursing. He has been in all three levels. The staff has been amazing. They help you place your father or whoever in the proper level of care. He?s in personal care now. The sanitation is excellent. You walk in and there are no odors, no smells. They empty his waste baskets every day, change linens every week, change his towels every day. My dad has never been involved in many of the activities but they have them posted. He gets an enlarged calendar with all the day?s activities posted and they also have them on a white board in the common area so that everybody knows what time everything is. "

"Brittany Pointe is the newest of the communities I've visited. Their apartments were outstanding. They have an area that's very light and with windows on all three sides, that made the apartment very bright. I thought it was more limited in terms of the eating facilities but it was still very nice. "
