My mom has been living in Highland Commons; it has been great, and she has been very happy there. It’s a safe and clean environment with friendly people and very nice staff. They have activities, there is a bus service for the bus stop right outside the building. They have their own meals, they have a laundry room on every floor, and there is a common floor. On the first floor, there is a community room with dining tables, games, and a kitchenette there to prepare for parties, and they have birthday parties for everyone. There is a pool, nice grounds to walk around, and a safe environment. They have bible study too. They sing Christmas carols, and they do crafts for Valentines or Halloween. They used to have activities that were managed by the residents, but the person handling it moved, and nobody is replacing the role. Some of the extra things that they used to do like movies every Sunday, older movies that people of that age group would enjoy together. They would have a group movie where everyone would come together and watch a movie. The people who organized them passed away or moved away and nobody took over. The building is nice, they got bulletin boards where they communicate all the events coming, and they have a nurse coming in once a month to take everyone’s blood pressure and diabetic blood sugar screen.
