My mom has moved into Babylon Beach House. It is almost like a home. Half of the community has large windows, and you can see the water, so it's very bright. You have carpets almost everywhere. They are not wall-to-wall carpets, but sort of like oriental carpets. The rooms are very nice. You have exactly what you need and as much space as you need. The bathrooms are built in, and they have a place for seniors to sit. You have a lot of people going around and helping out. You have social activities. My mom's room is very clean, very nice, and very homey. She has a big chair, a night table, and a place where she can put some of her pictures. She has a really comfortable twin bed. They provide the sheets and everything else, and they clean weekly. The dining area is very bright. It's right in the middle of the community. They have 12 tables where you can seat 5 or 6 people. The food smelled delicious, but I didn't taste it. I also like the fact that in terms of activities, there are not so many things every hour on the hour. They're seniors, and they need rest. Most of the other places have so many activities that I think it's overwhelming.

I would never recommend anybody to go to Babylon Beach House. I had to find my mother a new place because they were giving her the wrong Coumadin, so she bled out and had blood transfusions. She fell many times and had black eyes sometimes when I went to visit her. One day when I went there, she was lethargic and wasn’t breathing. I had to call 911 and nobody even took notice of that. That’s what started the whole thing. When she went back there, they gave her 4 mg. of Coumadin instead of a half mg. and she was bleeding out. She had bruises all over her because she was bleeding out in her back for about a week. When I finally got her to the hospital, they said that they did not want her back anymore. They were awful to her.

The Beach House has a beautiful location right on the the great south bay. Relatives and friends were able to visit people staying in the assisted living facility by car or boat. The staff was very friendly, not only knowing everyone in the facility by name but also remembering their friends and family members that would come to visit. It was a very warm environment promoting group activities, yet everyone still had their own private room. The private rooms were like mini apartments with a bedroom, living area, televisions, and refrigerators. It was encouraged that you join them for a meal and the chef was a very good cook, but still able to stay within everyones eating guidelines. There were different activities like bingo and new movie releases frequently, prizes included. The owner of the facility was almost always in her office during the day, not only does she make sure that everyone is doing well she also helps with questions about different medicines or arranging rides to different doctors. The owner would also have two cute puppies that she would let roam the facility, they were very well trained, mild, small dogs and the people living their would light up when they saw them. Many people at The Beach House had onsets of demensia or were overcome by the condition so many people had their own private aids while living in the facility. The private aids would be just as willing to help out or answer a question as readily as the rest of the staff would. The only downside of the facility is the location, because it is so close to the water it can flood if a big storm comes. This past year there was a tropical storm that hit the south side of long island and the facility was in the part of the area that required evacuation. Although some flooding did occur, the carpet was replaced, the facility was cleaned, and everything was back to normal over a short weekend. Overall The Beach House keeps up a steady routine, which is necessary for demensia patients, as well as providing a social environment filled with activities.
