The capital of Mississippi, Jackson is a city with a rich history, known for its significance in the civil rights movement. A unique mix of Southern charm and energetic big-city life, Jackson boasts a number of historic sites and museums, a vibrant arts and culture scene, the nation’s 10th largest planetarium and famed Jackson Zoo. Its low cost of living, comfortable year-round climate and access to health care services makes Jackson a popular choice with retirees, and the city is currently home to over 19,000 senior residents. To ensure this demographic stays active and involved in the community, the city’s Senior Services Division offers special programs, recreational activities, employment opportunities and meal services for local adults aged 60 and older.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
