"We did a tour of The Blake at Flowood. It was beautiful and spacious. The staff was very welcoming and kind. We ate a meal there, and it was very good. They had a good menu. The chef was very kind, he came over to the table and talked to us. We got a very good tour with all the amenities and all the things that they had to offer. It looked like a very nice place. The person who took us around was amazing. She was so kind, so knowledgeable, very thorough, and good with follow-up. I enjoyed being with her so often, her name's Annabel."

"My aunt moved to Cooperwood Senior Living, and we like everything about it and the location. She has her little apartment. I like the service that they give to her. They help her bathe, help with medicine, and do all her house cleaning. It includes three meals a day. They have a snack bar where, anytime during the day, if they want a snack, they can go there and get it, and it has no charge. They've got a little craft area. They've got some P.T. room for that if anybody needs it, and they've got a little movie theater. It's beautiful. They've got water to look out at, and my aunt enjoys it when she sees ducks out there. The staff has been great. When we have questions, they have an answer for us, so we've been very happy with it so far. I've seen the food, and my aunt is a very picky eater and has been very happy with their food. My aunt would rather watch TV than go out and experience the activities, but they have a lot. They got their mailbox. They have a little mail room where they can get their mail."

"I think Peach Tree Village is a wonderful place. The workers are courteous, helpful, and I haven't had any complaints. The food is too much, but it's good. I'm in the independent living. We have an activities director, and she plans things that are feasible for us and that we enjoy."

"The Quarters Assisted Living was a very nice facility, but they couldn't meet my mother's needs. My mother needed more intense care and an actual nursing home. The rooms were very clean and very well organized. The staff was very knowledgeable, very friendly, very accommodating, and helped me make my decision on what I needed to do. It was very clean."

"Brookdale Ridgeland seems like a good place, and everybody there seems to like everybody. The studio rooms are small but nice. I ate there once, and the food was good. They have a lot of activities for the residents and seem to be doing a good job with that."

"I am very pleased with the care that my mother is receiving. The facility is very nice and always clean. Sheila and the Staff in the Memory Care Unit are very kind and loving to the residents. You can tell that they care a about the residents by their actions and the way they communicate with the residents. "

"The very first time I went to this facility to visit my grandmother, I thought it was a fairly good place to be, given the fact that it was a retirement home. Little did I know that the elderly aren't too keen on being in such places. The staff was always around, but didn't seem to be around. Perhaps they were giving all visitors time with their loved one. My grandmother didn't seem to enjoy being there, despite the various activities they held on daily basis. The food menu was exemplary. I would say that besides the hospital like smell that permeated throughout the facility, it was a pretty decent place. My grandmother did after a year however, decide to leave the facility and return home. Home being Hawaii. "

"Madison Home Place seemed like a very nice facility, and the lady there was very nice and very helpful and gave me some good things to look for in a place that could take you. The facility seemed open and very clean. We didn't get to check the rooms. We had just seen a little of the dining area, the front lobby, and the hallways. The dining area was very open, very clean, and very nice looking."

"My parents are in an assisted living facility called The Blake. My mom lives in the memory care unit, and my dad lives on the other side in assisted living. I also have an aunt who has lived in assisted living there for about five years. We have been happy with the care for all three. They get excellent care. The place is a very nice community. They not only keep it clean, but they keep it well decorated. On the assisted living side, they have all kinds of activities. They have a big art room, a theater, and a physical therapy room with two occupational therapists and two physical therapists that work there full-time. They have regularly scheduled activities and special outings. They have a bus and they take people shopping and occasionally to museums or to restaurants. We have been very happy with their care there, and we're hoping to be able to keep them all there. They have had a lot of turnover in the last couple of years, but they have hired an awful lot of extra people. They have more staff now than they ever had before. For my parents and for my aunt, they are able to afford it on their current income."

"My sister is in St. Catherine's Village. It is great, and I wish I could go there. She started in a one-bedroom apartment. It is terrific, and she enjoys it. Then she became sick, and she had to go to the assisted living. Her room is nice, and she likes that. I ate there and the food is delicious. When she was able, she went to the pool for aerobics every day. Now that she is really not able to do that, she goes to their get-togethers and plays cards. They also have a library. She is taken good care of. There is not one thing that I do not like about it. "

"We visited Plain View Assisted Living. The director was a super nice lady. The place was clean and well-kept. It seemed like a nice place. They don't have a kitchenette or anything, just a bedroom and a bathroom. It's a big room so there's room for chairs and TV and stuff like that. They had a nice courtyard and porch area. Of course, they hadn't used them a lot since the weather has been so crazy, but they have a nice area. The staff who gave me the tour was great. She was very upbeat. She was a nurse, which was a plus. She knew the area because she was from there, so therefore she knew some of the people who walk in and out. She was just a very pleasant person. She's a Christian-oriented person. I didn't have any problems at all with her."

"Villa South was smaller, and the people seemed to be really caring. It was not big; it was like a small town community. The staff were excellent. My dad was in a shared room, but they had private rooms that would open. The rooms were fine; there was nothing wrong with them. The semi-private rooms were not that spacious, but the private ones were. It was more than adequate for them. I loved the dining room because it was big and spacious. And they left it open for 24 hours, so the residents could go in, have coffee or juice, and just sit and talk. He loved the food and did not complain, so it must be pretty good. They had trips to grocery stores and nearby churches, games, bingo, singing, and other activities. I was very pleased with the activities. My dad loved it, and I highly recommend the facility. "

"My in-laws moved into Riggs Manor Retirement Community, and it's been good so far. They just hired a new chef, changed their food service, they're getting testimonials, and it's pretty good. The nurses are good, and the staff is attentive. They're in a 2-bedroom apartment, it's large, and it's like a normal apartment. They have a full list of activities like bingo, dancing, singing, dance lessons, and art lessons. It's a good location, and I like it."

"My mother-in-law will be moving into Strong River Villa Assisted Living. It's almost like staying at a private hotel. It's got large rooms, it's clean, and it's got a big seating area. They take care of them, and they provide three meals a day. I'm very impressed. I also know people that have been there, so I was already aware of it. It's self-pay and it is a reasonable rate. It's like $3250 a month and you just supply their personal needs and they supply everything else and you can come and visit any time. I have friends whose loved ones have been there, and they've always been happy. It's better than any Holiday Inn or anything. The rooms were huge and clean. Nothing smelled of odor. They had a big open bay room or a place where they can see outside. I would live there. I wouldn't have to cut grass or anything. They have lots of walking space. They said that my mother-in-law could bring a dog to her room, and they also had a place where they could walk the dog outside. They said they have a place where they feed the birds, and they could sit in the bay window and watch the birds. They do bingo days, and on Wednesdays, they have a man that comes in and sings with them, and they have different TVs according to what they like. If you need somebody to take them to an appointment, they will schedule that, but it's an extra fee. They will give you the names of people that will do that for you. There's some type of activity every day and they can choose to participate or not participate. There are people there that are not able to get around, but their mind is clear. A lot of them just want to stay in their room, but the staff said the ones that have dementia or Alzheimer's want to get out and socialize more, so it's up to them. Every room has its own private large shower. It has a place for your TV, but you have to bring your own television, and your bed, and you can bring in a chest of drawers. Some people rent furniture for $40 a month, but most people want their own things."
