The intake person at the Alto Overland Park was over-the-top. The memory care unit was absolutely fabulous. They have this gorgeous, gorgeous patio to go out and enjoy the sun, but yet, you don't have to be directly in the sun. They even have a sunroom, it seems like, for their patients. The rooms were spacious, and even the studios. Their pricing was a little over my budget. If I were to stay there, it would be a lot. Their dining area is huge, but then the home is larger. I think they're like 10 stories. The memory care is on the seventh floor. They have PT and OT. They even have speech therapy if my husband needs those things. They have a large area for those things. I saw the studio and the one-bedroom, and there was a bit of a difference. It has more of a kitchen area and a living space in the one-bedroom. If I were to live with my husband, I think it would be a one-bedroom situation, but for himself, a studio would be enough. In fact, it's almost too much. I got to see activities like they were doing a cake walk in the regular area. So, I noticed even some people from memory care were being assisted into the bigger activities. When I got to memory care, it seemed like they had just finished an activity. So, it seemed like there were way more activities, and it seemed like their patients were way more active than in the other places I had witnessed. I think it's due to how the facility is run, and the positivity that you get when you walk into the place is so beautiful.

Alto Overland Park was modern, clean, and friendly, they had a variety of activities, and they had an in-unit washer and dryer. The salesperson I talked to was very aggressive, which I did not appreciate, but the rest of the staff seemed nice. Alto lacks beautiful gardens. They need more beautiful landscaping. Two residents told me they enjoyed the food. Their menus were posted and they looked appealing, at least on paper.

My dad has moved into Anthology of Overland Park. It would be really hard to pick something that I like the best because there are so many things. I guess the most comprehensive answer would be their personal attention to my dad. The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable, and they're the same staff all the time. They respond very quickly to any need or any question that I have or that my dad needs anything in his room. The rooms are very attractive. The biggest thing is lots of natural light is coming in. Even the studio is very spacious and very well arranged. There is everything you need in one place, and it is easy for my 87-year-old dad to move around in. There's a great big bathroom and open space. I have not tried the food personally, but their chef has been there for seven years since the facility opened. He's been there the whole time. The residents have nothing but positive things to say about the food, and the staff does, too. The food looks very pretty. The dining area is bright, spacious, and very welcoming, but at the same time very nice and very well appointed. Their activities are my next favorite thing about the facility and something important to us when we checked with different facilities. Every morning, they give the residents in their mailbox a large print schedule of that day to make it easy for them to choose. They have so many activities. They have movies every night, some type of church service or Bible study every day, chair exercise every morning, bingo, and music programs. The schedule is all day. You have such a variety of things to choose from. They have a salon. They have a gym where the residents can receive physical therapy if ordered, or they can go in and use the stationary bike or use those things just for their own exercise. They have specialists who come like a podiatrist, a physician, a nurse practitioner, and a dentist who come regularly so that you can make your appointments. They have an RN or an LPN there for 12 hours, and they're also on call. They have medical staff, either in-house or on call, during that night. So there's always ready access to medical professionals, and that's something else that was important to us. The other thing I would say about this facility is that, after checking out different facilities, this facility is a wonderful value for the cost. Also, my dad raves about the food. They give them lots of choices. That's the other thing that my dad likes. He studies the menu every day because every meal has a selection of things, and if you don't like that, you can order off of another menu and you can order all day long. You don't have to go in certain hours anyway.

I liked Anthology of Overland Park. One drawback to me was the rooms were unfurnished and I didn't like the idea that all you see when you look out the window was a walking path, a highway, and a parking lot. The apartments looked fine, and there were choices for the sizes. I talked with the nurse who was the director of memory care, and I liked her. The person who gave me the tour answered all my questions, and it wasn't rushed or anything.
