"Myers Apartments is on Cedar Road. They're an independent living facility, and they share the swimming pool and the grounds with another facility. If my brother started at Myers Apartments in independent living, but he got ill, he could then be transferred over to that facility. We all saw the apartment that my brother would have. It was very, very nice, and he had a nice patio. The only reason he is not going to go there is that it's $1,500. It's out of his budget, although they take Section 8 now. They were willing to assist with the paperwork. In the meantime, he would have to pay the $1,500 until they approved the Section 8. They have excellent staff. It was a wonderful facility. We got to take the lunch, and it was a very good diet that they have going. The food is prepared right there, and it was excellent. It is not inclusive, so it is charged to your room, and you pay for that in your rent monthly. It's like an apartment. It has the kitchen, the one bedroom, a living area, and a little, but very nice patio. It has eight libraries. They provide the laundry service, or he could do it himself. There was no additional charge for the laundry. His room is right around the corner from the laundry service. They have a little store in the facility. They have their own little greenhouse. I loved the greenhouse. They have a nice outdoor patio for everyone because they provide weekly get-togethers."

"Richmond Heights Place was new, it's clean, and it's a lovely area. The staff there was very accommodating, full of information, and very helpful. I spoke with the cook and they were very proud of their food service. They have social activities with the residents, but there is no swimming pool, gym, or any of those kinds of things. The dining was very nice and they had a courtyard. The grounds were beautiful. The cleanliness was excellent. There was fast food available close by, and there was a hospital probably 20 minutes."

"The Woods at Solon Pointe was a very nice facility. The food was delicious. It was like gourmet restaurant quality and worthy of being paid for. The people working there were very nice. They just couldn't accommodate both my in-laws. There's a lot of shopping around the community. My mother-in-law is in a wheelchair and she could've gotten around by herself in the actual community or outside. It's a beautiful facility."

"We were happy with Vitalia Senior Residences of Solon. They have very small rooms, but they have a lot of what my mom needs as far as the care. They cook and clean, and have a big restaurant-type cafeteria downstairs. They have a garden. The building is only 3 or 4 years old. It seems good. We left a deposit, and we have 30 days to decide if we want to do it or not. What stood out to us were the amenities they offered and how new the place was. It was very clean, very new, and very hotel-looking. And the people there were extremely nice. The food looked and smelled very good. The staff was very polite and not pushy."

"Vitalia Highland Heights is a brand-new facility. They just opened. I was very impressed with the independent living quarters that they offered. There were two spaces available. There are two bedrooms with a nice large living area and a kitchen that has everything. I know that if I wanted to, I could cook and bake there. There's a seating area in the kitchen. You don't have to have a dining room table, but it's big enough that you could have people sit down there on both sides. You could probably get maybe 4 or 5 people sitting in this area. They have beautiful two bathrooms that are bigger than what I'm living in right now. They have a washer and dryer, which is very important to me. The price is OK. I think they want $4005 or somewhere around there, maybe close to $5000 a month. They offer a lot of bus trips and typical things. They have a pool. They have everything. They have invited me twice now to come for lunch and their food is excellent. If you have a car, they have a covered parking area and that's $75 a month. That's high, and all it does is that there's a parking area where everybody parked right next to each other. You just have a roof over the outdoors. It's not an enclosed garage."

"My sister has moved into Light of Hearts Villa. It's a faith-based community. It was formed by the Sisters of Charity, which appealed to my sister. They're into Bible study and their whole attitude is not all about money, so that appealed to us very much. Right now, we're trying out assisted living because she fluctuates between doing good and then not really realizing what day it is or whatever, like her recall of facts, numbers, and things. They feel that they would like to start her there and see how it goes, and if need be, they could always move her over to memory care. Right now, they're evaluating her situation. I haven't tried their meals. I have to give them a heads up when I'm coming for either lunch or dinner, so you have to put a request in. But my sister is very happy with their food because she's there for every meal three times a day and no complaints, and she is a food fussy. Her room is like a suite. There's an entranceway, a pantry so she can store things, a private bath for the shower, and there's room for her queen-sized bed, a nightstand, a recliner, two dressers, and a rocking chair. It's quite roomy. They play Jeopardy and they play bingo. Yesterday, a husband and a wife came and sang and played instruments and so forth. I think it was like songs from the 1940s and 1950s, which they all enjoyed. My sister is doing much better walking so that she can get around with her walker. She can go visit some of her friends. They're not all in the same area, but they can go by elevator up or down. She's doing much better mingling with people. "

"The Winfield at Richmond Heights is close to me. So, proximity was good. The campus has a nice grassy area. It's quiet and the building itself was easy to get around, but I think maybe for someone new moving in, it would take a little bit of getting used to. They had call buttons for safety purposes if something should happen (which was important for my aunt). They had a little kitchenette in their apartments. Some of them even have a den and a balcony, which my aunt liked. The amenities were nice. I saw both the independent and assisted living and we had a good discussion throughout the whole tour. Then afterward we sat down and just talked about my aunt and things that she was interested in. They wanted to get to know her a little bit more. The lady who gave the whole tour was very knowledgeable."

"The aides and nurses are very attentive and sincere. My Mom has been at Hamlet for over 15 years. Questions are always answered quickly and professionally. The nursing team did a great job with Mom during her final days on Hospice Services at Hamlet. My wife and I could not be more appreciative of the care and constant over site that Tish and her team provided to my mom. We wish we could give Hamlet more stars than 5!"

"We toured Vitalia Rockside - Active Adult Community. We viewed everything. The directors toured us around. We saw the availalble apartments and things of that nature. Everything was very nice, and we enjoyed our visit with them. They have a lot of activities for male seniors. They have a men's group there to help men bond with other men because the population is usually more female to male when it comes to seniors, so they try to help out the men who live there as well."

"I toured Summit Point. It was clean and very organized. The staff was beautiful, answered all the questions, and even told us things that I probably would have forgotten to ask. They were very nice. The rooms were beautiful. They have help buttons all over if you need a hand. They had a shuttle service and they did group things as far as grocery stores and people wanting to go to the grocery store. Every Monday they went to a different grocery store. They put a calendar out. There was a lot for them to do. I've seen the dining area. It was beautiful. They had linens on the tables. They put out a menu, and if you didn't want what they had on the menu, they had an alternative menu for you to eat off of. They had like a little coffee shop there that you can get your coffee. You can do all-day coffee. And then they had a little grab-and go-section with snacks and whatnot. I thought that was beautiful."

"The assisted living facility that I found for my client is called Mount Alverna Village. It is run by the Franciscan Sisters from Chicago. My client is a former Franciscan priest. The place is very relaxed and comfortable. I think the staff is very helpful and very interested in trying to do whatever they can do to make my client’s stay there as pleasant as possible. He seems to be thriving there. The room is physically adequate. The dining area is not terribly large, but it doesn’t need to be. It is sufficient for those that would be in the room at any one time. They have various activities, too. "

"We went to Vitalia Mentor for a tour. It is beautiful. However, we are the first generation of not being blue collar. We are kind of in the middle of the middle class, and the Vitalia Mentor was a little bit snooty. It just felt like you didn't want to touch anything. It was set up beautifully. They emphasized that they had food available all the time. But, it didn't feel like my mom, who grew up on a farm, was going to fit in there. Nevertheless, I could see friends of mine bringing their parents to live there in a heartbeat. It's very nice. It is just not suitable for Mom. The building is only three years old, but it is not homey. The lady who did the tour was very friendly and very nice. She listened to Mom really well. We only saw one apartment because I don't think there were any empty units. There is also no place to sit outside there for the residents. The amenities were the same. They had a big theater set up to watch movies, which was nice. A laundry room is available, like the other place. They have a small gym. The staff didn't really say too much about the activities, which is one of the main reasons we want to move my mom where she is around other people. However, there were more people in the hallways and residents to say hello to or that kind of thing at Vitalia Mentor than there were at the other place. They have a whole kitchen thing available with all kinds of food, and it's like being at home. The room was considerably smaller than the other place, and maybe that was because somebody was living there; it wasn't just staged, and so therefore he had more stuff in there, so that could be. It turns out that they were also out of our price range. The staff member who gave the tour was pretty tuned in; she did a good job."

"Mom stayed at Independence Village of Aurora. She was in the assisted living side for a year and three weeks. The people were great. The workers were absolutely fabulous. They were polite, always giving instructions and patient. My mother was quite a character and caused a lot of ruckus there. They were always very kind to her and to me and my family. The facility itself was gorgeous. The only thing that I would have liked to have seen was someplace where you could do some exercises and stuff independently. I know that's really rough, especially on the assisted living side, but just someplace that had like a physical therapy bed or something that was 18 inches above the floor so people could go and do back exercises and things like that, but everything was good. The workers in the cafeteria, the ladies that ran the events and the activities, the ladies and the men that worked behind the desk were all just wonderful. Maintenance was absolutely superb. I never had to ask for anything twice. The nursing staff was wonderful. I can't say enough about it. The price was decent. I didn't think that they were gouging you at all for what you got out of it. Her apartment was a one-bedroom. She had a kitchen. What was a good selling point was that you have a full-sized refrigerator, you could bring in a microwave, you had a nice sink and plenty of counterspace. She was legally blind and had lots and lots of health issues, but she wanted to stay as independent as possible and this place really allowed her to do that. She had a nice walk-in shower, plenty of closet space and kitchen space. There's carpeting on the floor on hers, but they're starting to eventually get rid of all the carpet and just put the luxury vinyl flooring down instead, which is a much better idea. Everything was nice. We did have problems with the heater not working right in her room, and all the rooms were having a problem with that. You didn't have a lot of control over the thermostat and the airflow. That was the only complaint we had about anything structurally. I've recommended them to a lot of my friends. The food was good. They had a good selection and they followed a Mediterranean diet, which a lot the old people in that generation aren't real crazy about. Chef Rich was wonderful. Even when mom had to go to the pureed food, I was eating it with crackers because it was so good. It had plenty of flavor and spices. It was yummy, especially the salmon. They had beautiful flower arrangements. They do as much stuff outside as they can. They have that enclosed courtyard, which is fabulous. They have two of them, a smaller one for the assisted living, which could have used a little work, and then the bigger one that everybody could use, which was fabulous. They'd have concerts out there. They did all kinds of fun stuff and they had beautiful flowers everywhere. The lady that runs the housekeeping also took care of all the decorating inside and out. It's just breathtaking. She did a fabulous job with all that. They had tons of activities. The one thing that I would suggest is more activities for people who are sight impaired. They have a lot games and stuff, but no games that you can play that didn't require vision. She did all the exercise classes that they had. They had bingo, word games, card games, movie nights, trivia, craft making, and artwork, then they have a big party every Thursdays at 3:30 and they bring in live music and then they have free cocktails and everybody gets to have a good time. They always have a party for the holidays with lots of good music. It's definitely worth it. They do a lot of sports too. They did volleyball, baseball, and beanbag stuff. My mom loved the volleyball. The parking was good. They had a wonderful lock system. They changed over to these little electronic fobs that made it really easy to get in. The administrative staff was fabulous too. Susan was great, everybody there was. I never had a problem with anybody. They take trips, just local, like to go to the grocery store, and the independent people could very easily walk over to an outlet mall. They had a little sidewalk with steps just for them to go right from the back parking lot into the mall. It was all within walkable distance. All of her meals and all the activities were all online. I had that option too, not just a printed page."

"I found a place, and I'm getting ready to move to it. It's called Parker Place. I like the people. I like the apartment that I'm going to get. It's also close to some friends of mine, so I feel like I can make new friends, but I also have some old friends for support. The people have been very helpful. Even in my transition, they have been giving me advice and suggestions on things to do. I feel free to call them if I have any questions about the place. They feel like a welcoming bunch of people, and I'm looking forward to moving there. The apartment is convenient. I like the amenities it has, and most of all, I like the people I met. They seem like caring and thoughtful people. They are not intrusive. The food is good. The place is very clean. They've been very accommodating and helpful in getting me moved in. Everyone is very kind. I know in life things are not always perfect, but I think I've picked a good place where I can fit in. There will be an adjustment, but I think they will help me get through it."

"I'm a resident of Danbury Broadview Heights. The help here is great. They're there in a snap. You don't have to ask them twice. They're very caring. They get to know you. If you need something, they're there right away. I got a two-bedroom apartment, two full baths with a shower and everything. It's pretty good sized. I have a family room, living room combined. I got a little kitchen too with a full-sized refrigerator and stove. They have different ones and it depends what your need is. If you want a one-bedroom, they'll take care of it. There are different activities. They had trivia, tap, and a headband game in the bistro. They got a beautiful library upstairs, then they've got a courtyard. They usually have functions and the food is good, too. The medical part of it and the management department is pretty good. They get to know everybody personally. That's like a home away from home. When I leave, I never lock the door. That's how safe I felt it is."
