"My mother will be moving into Cogir of Vallejo Hills Senior Living. The facility was really beautiful. It was a nice, quiet, and very safe area. It was bustling with activity. It wasn't people walking around with nothing to do, looking bored or anything. People were interacting with each other. They had a lot of activities as far as taking people to plays and things of that nature. I saw that and my mom saw that and she was like, "This is perfect." Plus, it's not one of those hospital-like facilities. You have your own apartment and they come and they take care of certain things. They give discounts to vets. I thought that was awesome. It was a great place. They have a studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom, but my mom got a one-bedroom. The staff was awesome and very helpful. They even offered my mom lunch, so it was really good. The place is on a hill though, but you can look out of it."

"Oakmont Gardens was an interesting place. They're in the process of building a new memory care area, which will be more updated. Although we saw a great unit, they weren't really designed for handicapped people, but they were willing to modify the apartment to suit my husband's accessibility needs. I could participate in all the activities, which include a beautiful pool, a gym, clubs, music, and other things. There seemed to be a lot of people moving around and a lot of hustle and bustle going on, which is actually good. "

"We toured Cogir of Vacaville Senior Living. They kind of had a little bit better pricing on one of the apartments, which was nice. They showed us two rooms, one of the bigger ones and one of the smaller ones, both were laid out nicely and roomy. She showed us the studio and the one bedroom and they both were nice. The upkeep was excellent. The staff was nice, informative, and very professional."

"We chose Deer Park because it was a nice, affordable place. They have a gym, a beautiful movie room, and a dining room with a nice view. Their staff is really friendly and helpful. My mom is very pleased, and we really like this place. They are working on making the food better. "

"It is modern and new. It's like a very nice motel. They have a lot of amenities. It was comfortable. They have a nice dining room, a social area where they have various activities, and a very nice theater in the lower level with a big screen and comfortable chairs. The place had fire doors that closed automatically when there was a fire alarm. The staff that I met seemed very organized and experienced. I did meet with one of the residents. She showed me her apartment, and she seemed very comfortable there. They have a morning and evening walking group."

"Drake Terrace was a very nice place, and it had everything we wanted. The staff was very kind and helpful. The location was perfect because it was close to shopping places. The rooms were of good size, clean, and well kept. They provide transportation, and they have a calendar of events. "

"The Farmstead at Dixon Senior Living is a fairly new facility. It was a little too pricey. However, they seemed to offer a lot of extras, like they had an ice cream bar. It just was a very homey experience. Walking in it was very comfortable. I was impressed with their activities and their facilities in general. It was nice. With regard to the staff though, I wouldn't buy a used car from them because they were sales staff. However, they had a lot of activities going on. The only things that were negative were the location and the price."

"My mom is in independent living at Carlton Senior Living Concord. It's clean, inviting, and has good location and friendly staff. They have a nice group of ladies and men playing bingo and events. On Thursday afternoons or evening, they have a social hour or wine tasting, and my mom likes it. The food is restaurant-style and not my mom's favorite, but she's a gourmet chef, so she's going to probably judge a lot harder than most people. "

"I've been to the Belmont Village Albany. We were shown the independent living. Although I know where the assisted living was, we did not go into that area. The woman who gave us the tour was very good. I thought she covered all the bases. We sat down before the tour and she explained everything very well. In our situation where my cousin is very touchy about her dementia, she never referred to her, but she just talked about the care offered to seniors in such a way that normalized the whole situation of "your memory is not quite what it was." She didn't say it the way I say it, but she just made that all sound very normal and that was just part of life there. I thought they did an excellent job. The staff was always friendly. We were introduced to the librarian and some care assistants. They were sitting in a breakroom and everyone was quite friendly. I like that they had fresh flowers on the table. It was a very beautiful arrangement. I liked that kind of attention to detail and that kind of life. It's an apartment-like facility, but it had several verandas. It had an outdoor space for people who wanted to garden. There was an outdoor eating area off of the dining hall. They had a casual eating area. They had a small gym and also an exercise room where someone did classes. It was a beautiful facility."
