"We really like Deer Park Retirement Community. It was very picturesque and the common areas were very nice, like the dining room and movie room. We'll pick a 1-bedroom for mom. It was basic, but nice. The only negative was there's not a lot of closet space; otherwise, it's a very nice room with a balcony. The people we met were very nice. The activities all look good. They have movie nights, puzzles, bingo, yoga, chair yoga, and different things that look like they would be good for her. It appeared friendly and not very depressing for a senior community."

"My overall experience with Brookdale Paulin Creek was good. The rooms seemed fine. It was a little depressing having to live in a place like that, it’s tough wherein they have to live with a bunch of folks that are going through similar things. I would say that the place is probably above average, a good B. We visited their dining area but we didn't taste the food but the people eating there said it was good. They were playing games while we were there, and looked like they’re having a good time. They have a game room, a ballroom type place where they play card games. "

"My sister needed to come out to west coast to be near family as she was getting up in age. I was told of Cogir Vallejo Hills by a longtime friend whose mother lived there . My sister has been here a while and loves it. The residents are so friendly and we often say most could teach young people about their great outlook on life. "My father and his wife moved to Drake's Terrace two years ago, and it's fantastic for them on many levels. Convenience: no need to shop for groceries, cook, or clean Social: built in new friendships with other interesting people; regular comraderie at meals, And more. Stimulating: all sorts of intellectual, arts, and music activities offered daily Health: exercise classes including walks, stretching and tai chi Safety I can't imagine a more down to earth and pleasant environment that offers safety, convenience, social outlets and much more. "We went to The Vincent. We just took a quick tour. The building is in beautiful shape, but then it's brand new. They just built it last year. The rooms were pretty. They were a little higher end. They had crown molding. They had central air instead of air conditioners in the wall. They had rounded corners on the sheetrock and arches instead of square. It was a little higher end. I thought it was a little pretentious, though. When you walked into the main room, it was huge. The ceilings were 20 feet high. It was nice for some people, but it didn't feel cozy to me. I thought it felt kind of cold. I didn't like it, and it was way more expensive. The only person that we talked to there was the salesperson, and she was great. She was very informative and really easy to talk to. They showed us their exercise room, and it was this long skinny room that had two older pieces of gear, and that was it, there was nothing to it, and I thought, 'This is terrible.'"

"I toured Cogir of Vacaville Senior Living and met Sandra, our wonderful tour guide. She did such a great job. Both my daughter and I could feel a rapport with her. The place was in great condition. They just replaced the siding, so it looked brand new. I really liked the mature trees, the landscaping, the grounds, the space in the rooms, and everything. Their closet was as big as I have. They even have a coat closet, and a kitchen which got all I needed (a two burner stove and a refrigerator). Some rooms have alcoves, too. She showed us an older unit and another one that had been updated. They put wood flooring in, carpeting, and stainless steel branded appliances. If somebody leaves, they go in and update it. I liked that it had recessed lighting and a nice sized patio. They didn't have a pool, but that's no big deal for me. She explained that the residents used the recreation center in Vacaville. They also have a small performing arts center, which Sandra said they arranged trips to. Then there's a washer-dryer in the unit and weekly house cleaning service (cleaning your room and changing your linens). Later that day after we finished the tour and everything, I got a really nice email from Sandra thanking my daughter and I for coming by. To me, that was a nice touch. I didn't hear any appreciation and follow up from anybody else. All three meals were provided. The dining area was an open seating. They have a set time, so it's not like you can go to lunch whenever you want, but they have a grab and go section if you just want to go down and get something. Transportation is available. There's a 20-passenger bus and a 3-passenger van."

"My friend lived at Belmont Village Albany assisted living for three years before moving to their memory care area for the past year. For a long time she took advantage of all the activities on the independent side, but slowly her memory grew worse and her anxiety became inconsolable. She would call me and other friends multiple times per day in a panic and forget she had called. She became resistant to care and paranoid that people were playing tricks on her. It became clear that she was not thriving in her social group and needed more than assistance with showers and housekeeping. Her son agreed to move her to memory care and almost immediately she began to relax. There she has been able to participate in activities again and the staff is very patient. Her mood improved unbelievably and it was a big relief to me to see her smiling and laughing again. Her dementia is still progressing but she is so well adjusted in her routine. I don't know how they got her to do it but I am very grateful. "

"I like the location of Sonoma Hills Retirement Center, and Mom wanted a completely independent living facility, so it's perfect for her. The staff is very friendly. Mom's room is large. Mom and I like the facility. "

"My visit at Rohlffs was quite nice. The staff were fine. They took me all around. The facility is worth recommending. "

"Valley Orchards was very home-like and immaculately clean. The apartments were acceptable except that no pets were allowed. The other problem was the dining room. If you use a walker, they would take your walker from you. There's no assigned table, but you had to go through an open line for salad, soup, and beverage before you go to a table and for someone who has a walker, it's very difficult to do that. Once you're seated, someone will come over to you and ask which entree you want. The entree was very good, but the convenience was lacking. Parking was excellent. They had an open area and two types of units: the end ones and the inside ones. The end units were very good and had patios and/or outdoor area. It's a very nice place, and I would recommend it to anyone who didn't have a pet."

"My visit to Berkshire was excellent. They took me to the room and personally guided me through everything. They talked to me and opened it up for questions, and they were very professional. The rooms were very nice and adequate for what the need is. They had dinners, and they had parties outside. It was some kind of celebration going on, and it looks like they did it quite nicely. It is all great. "

"We loved the apartment and the apartment layout at The Meadows of Napa Valley. The down side was the long hallways to get to the individual rooms and they just had three meals a day. There wasn't a kitchen or a restaurant that you could go and just get a snack or have something on off hours. It was a very nice facility, but it just didn't really meet our needs."
