Assisted Living Communities in St Charles, IL

"Hearthwood Senior Living had a full range of services, from you know, three days a week meals if you wanted them, complete apartments of various sizes, and reasonable monthly rents or fees, and no entrance fee. That was a big deal. As many places do, they had craft rooms, a library, and a swimming pool. The staff was wonderful, and the people were active, very friendly, and welcoming. It's very clean, and they have a new owner, so they're undergoing a remodeling with new carpeting and new woodwork, and so forth. We toured for independent living, but it's a continuous care community, so there is a wing for rehab or for more assisted living if you need it."

"My parents are residents of Oak Crest Atrium Apartments. They have two sections: one is for memory care, and one is more assisted living. My parents are in assisted living. They have their own apartment, which is very nice and very large. It has a small kitchenette in it. There's built-in shelving. The bathroom is very nice. Included in their rent is three meals a day in the dining room. If they're not able to make it, they'll bring the food to them. Their evening snack is fresh fruit that's brought to their apartment. They also get cleaning once a week in their apartment, and their laundry is done for them. My mother gets assistance with medication. If they have any need for assistance, they just have to call down. There's a phone in every room, including the bathroom and the kitchen. So it's been such a comfort for the family to know that we don't have to worry about them, especially at night that there's somebody available. The staff is super wonderful, very nice, very welcoming to my parents and the extended family when we go to visit. They have a pub in the basement that looks like an old-fashioned kind of bar-restaurant. On Wednesdays and Fridays, outside people can make reservations and go, and it's very nice. They have a movie room with big, comfortable reclining chairs, so they can watch movies. They do have a craft room, but they also do bingo and other arts and crafts. I was there on a Saturday when they had a group come in and do some singing, some worship songs, and some prayers with the group. There are plenty of rooms to go and visit with family. They have fireplaces, and on the lower level, they have a very large room with a long family dining table and a full kitchen. You're able to reserve that to either take meals in, or you can cook in there if you want to cook with your family member. My parents are very, very comfortable and happy there. My father feels like they're overeating because the food is so good. It's beautiful a facility, and the layout is very nice. They have an outside area and screened-in porch that they can sit on. It feels like you're at home, but your house is really big. We looked at multiple places, and the pricing was very competitive."

"Monarch Landing was nice and had a lot of the amenities that I want, like covered parking, a pool, a fitness lab, lots of activities to choose from, and friendly people. I liked the apartments and everything about it. "

"Bickford of Aurora was beautiful, but it was just too expensive for us. We toured the memory care, and the staff was very friendly and very willing to help with anything we needed. The dining area is very elegant and very nice. When we went there, they were playing bingo with the residents. Some people were playing Uno. Those were the only two things that were going on at the time that we were there. They have a hair salon and a spa. They also take the residents on outings."

"My mother lived here for just over 10 years. She was early onset Alzheimer's and lived outside of Belmont Village's dementia unit for five years before moving into it. The care and the care providers were always outstanding. They called me anytime -- day or night -- there was a problem and they always treated my mother like a human being, someone with feelings and concerns. They never treated her like a patient. The staff, from the very top executive to the very lowest person on the totem poll, was always respectful and kind not only to me but, more importantly, to my mother. I can't say enough good things about Belmont Village. Yes, it was costly. But I'm thankful my mother had the funds to pay for it. "

"My dad felt welcome from the day he moved in. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. The rooms were nice and we were able to make it feel like home. Food was good, but dad did say entrees repeated often. The facility was always very clean and well maintained. Any time we had any maintenance issue it was addressed immediately. I could not have asked for better care."

"I liked Jennings Terrace. I liked that the people were open and that they were very warm and very inviting. The nursing side had its own dining room, a little lounge area, and its own nurse's station. So, I liked the way it's set up. There are a couple of places where you look out the windows. They had an atrium area where it had a ton of bird feeders. I also understand that they had activities. Esther was great. She was awesome. She explained everything, answered all our questions, and was very forthcoming. It's a smaller facility and they're very concerned about individualizing the care. Esther was always asking me about my dad and not what kind of medication he needed."

"The Woodlands at Canterfield was beautiful. The apartments were fine, clean, nice, and brand new. We met with several people and they were all very nice and professional. They had a bunch of games going. It's brand new so there were not that many people there yet. We saw people in the lunchroom and it looked very nice. The dining area was beautiful. I didn't eat there. My brother and my mom ate there and they said the food was excellent. We met with several different people and overall everybody was great, but some were better than others."

"Sunnymere was an excellent place with only 27 residents. The food was too starchy for me, but Mom loved it. I decorated her room, so she has the fanciest room there with an office setup and a computer. Ruth is a registered nurse that runs the place, and she is the most caring, most wonderful, educated, workaholic person you could ask for. Judy, the marketing person, together with their board, are all wonderful people. I was impressed with their activities and would like to support and help them. The staff is just as sweet and humble as can be, and their attitude is phenomenal. "

"I toured. I thought the place was very nice. If my mom were going to go into assisted living, it'd be a perfect place for her. Denise answered every question I had for her. She showed me every room. There was one type of room she couldn't show me because people were living there. She showed me empty rooms, and I said, "Well, this is beautiful, very clean, and very well lit." She was fantastic."

"My husband moved into Alden Gardens of Waterford. Everything is very satisfactory. The units are bright, clean, and spacious. The dining area and everything seems good. Everybody is very friendly and helpful. "

"My grandmother was at Alden Gardens for about four or five months and the place was phenomenal. It was a new construction and very clean. The assisted living facility was really good. They have CNAs that came around and they do well-being checks a couple of times a day. They would help with laundry. It was basically set up like a studio apartment or a one-bedroom apartment with a bath, a bedroom and a kitchenette type thing with a refrigerator. You could have a toaster or microwave there. I believed they also had one and two bedroom apartments. It was really nice. There was a dining room downstairs. At that time, she was very active. They had exercise classes and art classes. They had a library. It has a secure entrance where you had to be buzzed in. It was actually locked down for residents' safety after a certain time at night. It was a really nice facility. "

"I was impressed that the lady who was giving me the tour at Brookdale Glen Ellyn knew the names of everybody that passed by, which was probably 15 or 20 people. The room was what I expected: nice quality with a fair amount of room for one person. There were people playing cards, but I went during the day, so there wasn’t a lot of action, so to speak. "

"I visited, and I'm still thinking about it. I liked it, but it's very expensive, and there's a lot of stuff that I would have to pay for. It's convenient to where I have to be, though, and they offer almost anything you can think of. The food is very good, and everything is highly rated there. That's probably why it's expensive. It's just so big; they have about 500 people there. You'd better be able to walk, too, because it has acreage and trees around it."
