"We were impressed with Anchor Bay at Greenwich. It had a nice little enclosed garden that attracted the sun, and a lot of people were sitting out there. It seemed well-equipped and well-run, but we couldn't come to terms with the money, so we did not choose that. We met a number of the staff who were always smiling and helpful. The food seemed to be good, according to a couple of people there. Everybody seemed happy and involved."

"My dad, who is 96, has been there for almost a year, and is very happy at Commonwealth House. He tells people it’s not a facility, it’s a real home, and everyone there, residents and staff alike, is part of the family. As soon as we walk through the door, every time we walk through the door, for as long as we stay, it feels like home, because the staff and residents genuinely care about each other. Dad feels accepted by everyone there, and feels a very strong sense of belonging. He enjoys the food and participates in all of the activities because he loves being with the group. Whatever Dad needs, the staff is always there to provide it promptly and professionally, with compassion, and keeps us updated whenever there is anything we need to know. We never have to worry. We know that he is getting the best possible care. There is nothing I would wish them to improve upon. They routinely provide a stellar environment with stellar care. Dad told me he could never have imagined that a place like this actually existed. Neither could we, but I’m so grateful that we found them."

"Mom has moved into Blenheim-Newport. Everybody that I met has been very helpful, kind, and caring. The other thing is that I have had friends who have had their parents go there and also friends who needed assisted living. I know that there have been situations where one of the family members needed memory care and the spouse, rather than be separated, actually moved into assisted living. It is very close to where we live and almost across the street from where I went to high school. I didn't have to drive far to get there. They have been great at handling her in terms of meeting her needs as a blind person. The door has a plaque on it and not only has raised lettering on it for people who can't see, but it also has Braille. They made her feel comfortable. She didn't want to go there at first, but since she's been there, she's settled in, and there's a lot of things that they do with the people who are there for memory care. They have a chorus. They all sing together. It's more like a glee club. I feel it's worked out well so far. I have eaten there on more than one occasion. They have a restaurant and you can go there and have a meal. The memory care facility meals are served within a locked space so they don't wander around and leave. The food, at least in the restaurant area, was good. The facility has been there for quite a while. They're repainting areas and replacing some of the molding around doors in the halls. They're very good about letting you know that they're doing it and why they're doing it. In general, it's a very nice facility. They have activities. I know that they take them out on trips, they go shopping, they have arts and crafts, and they have this woman who comes in and gets them all singing, which is great therapy. The cost is no different than any of the other facilities I visited. For the price, it was cheaper. I'm paying for a single room for my mother that is cheaper than what a double room was at those other places."

"My mom moved to All American Assisted Living at Warwick, and it's nice that everything is planned for memory care. We're having good feedback from the staff. They were very attentive and didn't have a large turnaround of staff. It's the same people staying there. My mom said the food was very good. They do all sorts of in-house activities and also go out. The rooms are very good size."

"The apartment I saw at The Elms Retirement Residence did not have a kitchen. It was just a bedroom, living room, and bathroom, which was fine. They have a beautiful rec room, gorgeous gardens outside, and a beautiful sitting area. They had access where they could walk into Westerly where there are a lot of activities like concerts at the park. I have had the meals down there and the food was delicious. People could go in and get meals for $10 if they're visiting somebody. We had an aunt that moved in there. The activities were great. They had exercise classes. They didn't have cooking classes, but what my aunt liked a lot about it was they had a hairdresser right on the premises so she could get her hair, nails, and toes done. That was part of the fee, which was a plus for them because women like that kind of thing. When you go there, it's like going to a five-star resort. It was very luxurious. I ate there, so I went down and sat with my aunt at dinner time, and everybody was dressed up like they were going out to a fancy restaurant. All these old ladies had their pearls on and had their hair done. So, it is an upscale retirement home. It's for a wealthier clientele. They brought entertainment in. It's a different vibe, which is great if that's what you want."

"The rooms and facility are kept spotless and the employee's really care about the residents. They treat my Mom and my wife and I like family. It is always a pleasure to visit the facility and the staff go out of their way to answer any questions we have. I feel 100% confident that my Mom will be taken care of while she stays there."

"I was there January 2015 to do a tour and I was so impressed with the place. I had been in the facility a few years ago and the owners have done a lot of renovations to the place. It looks so much better wow. I was impressed. The staff was friendly and the residents I spoke to seemed to be very happy and well cared for. "

"Mom is already going to be placed at Westerly Health Center. She has been there on respite abound six times, she is familiar with it, the staff is very good with her, and they actually wanted her to come there to be placed. They've got all kinds of activities. They have an activities director that has things going on all the time. She got involved with a group, they were making flowers and baskets, and they have time where they play Bingo. They play all different kinds of activities. They also encourage skills like with the ball -- a soft ball, an earth ball, and all that. They really have a lot of things going on. They go on trips and all that. It is excellently kept. Westerly Health is among the best that I have seen, and I was very impressed. The attitude of the staffing is just outstanding. Everybody from the nursing staff all the way down to the housekeeping staff and all that always stop what they are doing, say hello to you, and it doesn't matter how many times you've gone in there; they always greet you with a smile. It is really nice; it is a good place. Mom is going to become a permanent resident on the 1st of June. This was it -- hands-down for what our needs were for her. "

"My mother moved into Masonicare at Mystic. Everyone's friendly and professional. It's reasonably priced. The facilities are gorgeous. They have a full calendar of activities. They have chair yoga, a saltwater pool, a movie theater, happy hour in their pub, and a nice shop where you can pick up basic necessities. My mom's very pleased. She gets one meal a day. She gets dinner every day and for the rest she's on her own. It's nonprofit, so their rates are much lower than in other places."

"I toured Complete Care at Groton Regency. They were very nice and helpful. The place was clean, and I liked the layout of it. I thought it would be a good place for me. Ava was wonderful. She explained everything and was easy to talk to. The room size was very sufficient, and I was pleased with it. You have your own private bathroom right inside your room, and I felt I could be very comfortable there."

"NLRC was my father's last home before he passed. His nurses always made him comfortable and took the best care of him till his last days. The staff, was very loving and caring for him and our family. They went above and beyond to let us enjoy our last moments with him. "

"Sheltering Arms just didn’t have the best levels of services. It wasn’t quite on the level of assisted living, and that’s why it just wasn’t working for my mother anymore. I can say that it was a good place; she just needed more services. When she first went there almost four years ago, it was fine for her, but by the time she left, it just wasn’t enough for her. It was a good facility. They’re very clean; it’s just not for her at this point. They don’t do that much for people. The staff and I talked about that, and they were the ones who told me I would either have to get more assistance in there or move her, because they could not provide the services that she needed. The staff was very good. They were very nice, but they didn’t have quite enough, so they couldn’t give her the assistance with dressing, changing, bathing and things like that. They weren’t understaffed; it was their level of care. I knew that when she went there. Mom just got a little older and deteriorated a little more, so it just wasn’t right for her toward the end. She would’ve stayed there a few more years, but she couldn’t. It just didn’t have the services that she needed. They had daily activities as well. Because the high school is close by, they have volunteer students that would go over and do things. "

"Sachem Homes is an assisted living facility. They provide meals and the residents either have their own rooms or shared room. They have 24-hour staff. It caters to smaller community. The meals are pretty balanced. They have household activities that are available for members that want to do things. The place is small and almost everyone knows each other there. "
