"The place that that had continuing offerings for care that was the most affordable was Fairview Retirement Community in Groton. It's a very nice place, it's a nice location, and the apartments are good, and they're very affordable for me. The people are lovely. It's very lovely. They only have like 30 apartments for independent living, but they offer everything after that all the way to skilled nursing and everything. It's a very realistic choice. It's not luxurious like so many places. It does not have a food plan, which for me is fine because the apartment comes with a full kitchen and you're going to use it, so you don't need to have a food plan. The staff is patient. They answer all the questions. They're lovely, they're enthusiastic, and they're very welcoming. They are not doing heavy sales thing. They have a little café, and you can order from there and have it delivered to your space if you want, or to the little dining room they have, but they do not have a food service. I think that's why the cost is much less than a lot of places. It's a rental, too. You don't buy in there. It's truly for independent people. You can hire some help to come in if you need assisted living. They don't have a full area for that, although they have assisted living assistance, but it's not included, and you would be paying for that. They have a nursing home, which was what the original facility was all about. They just renovated it in 2010. The one large building they have, they renovated it, and put apartments in instead of having all nursing homes. "

"I toured Victoria Gardens Apartments. They provide meals, and they have transportation. They have community groups for everyone and get together. I chose Victoria Gardens Apartments because of the cost and location. The staff was very friendly and informative, but the rooms could be a little bigger. The place is nice. It has a small library, and the area is quiet. It's close to parks and walking, and my bank is close by."

"Masonicare (Masonicare At Mystic) is a very friendly, brand-new place. The rooms are brand new. They have a library, a pool, and some nice areas to eat. The food is excellent. The staff is great. Because the community isn't at 50% capacity, they wait on you hand and food. They are a very professional and very kind group of people."

"Masonicare at Chester Village was a very nice place. We had a nice tour, and it was very informative. They answered all my questions. The people that were walking around looked very happy. The buildings were immaculate. The grounds look like they have a lot of planting. It's a wooded area, so you got plenty of walking trails, so it was very nice. The food smelled good, but I didn't try any food. They have a lot of things going on. They have all kinds of card games. They have an exercise room and a pool. They do senior aerobics, senior exercise, and senior yoga. They do all that kind of stuff. It was very interesting. The rooms were gorgeous. The particular one that I was looking at is a one-bedroom plus den, and it was big enough to put my dining room set in there too. They are all updated with new appliances and a granite counter. It was beautiful. The staff members that I met were very nice and very friendly. The facility itself was as clean as a whistle."

"The apartments are very nice, with a full living room, kitchen, and multiple bedrooms, as well as plenty of storage space. On the downside, the trash disposal area is on the second floor, requiring an elevator ride or climbing stairs to access. The staff are nowhere to be seen, however there's a vibrant community between the residents, who often participate in group activities or carpool together to church or other events. The building and grounds are very well-maintained, and the campus is centrally located in town with close access to banking, entertainment and restaurants. Overall, it is an ideal community for an elderly resident, and is highly recommended. "

"We've decided to keep my mom where she is at the time being, which is the Elderwood Of Scallop Shell, not really looking around all that much at this point. The ones that I talked to were basically closed down at this point. You could go online at the website and talk to people on there, but that's kind of difficult. That kind of played into my decision to keep my mom where she is. She ended up there when she initially went in for rehab after her broken hip. I have not been in the building, I just looked at it online like most of the others. I just talk to people and they get back to me. It seems good, but I don't have a lot to judge on. The staff is accommodating and friendly. My mom is forgetting a lot so she needs someone to keep an eye on her. The location is very nice, it's not on a busy street, and it's tucked away. I don't know what the layout is. She went directly from the hospital over there so I have not seen the inside. They're close to relatives down there and that's kind of the determining factor for us and also recommendations from her assisted-living facility. It's not a gigantic nursing home or a rehab center like some of them are so it's a little cozier. They have private rooms which I'm planning to get for my mom. They've got a library. My mother goes down there pretty much every day. Obviously it's a rehab center so I guess they do things with the residents to kind of keep them busy because they can't have visitors. I find them very friendly and easy to work with. They set up a couple of Zoom visits with my mom and it was so nice."
