Assisted Living Communities in Camp Hill, PA

"Oak Hill Village is the one closest to my budget. It's a good facility and economical, and it has a good program. I would be happy there, but I'm not ready for it now. They took me to several apartments to look at and gave me the application and information on the facility. I had that contact person to call when I'm ready, and she calls like once or twice a year just to see how I am. The apartments were good, clean, and ready to see. They were empty apartments. The staff was friendly and always available to answer questions. She did a great job. The staff, from the receptionist to the person who was giving me the tour, was friendly."

"We visited Harmony At Hershey. It was okay, but it's a multistory building where you have to use an elevator, and the hallways were pretty long. Additionally, the number of seniors it housed was a little too high for us. The rooms were very beautiful. It's a little more expensive, and they have a lot of a la carte extras. You pay more for each thing, whereas other places include laundry and cleaning services. The amenities are very nice. They have hair salons, a movie theater, outdoor space, and other nice features. They also have a game room, which is a bit larger than the ones at other places. Lisa was very knowledgeable, and it's a newer building."

"Paramount Senior Living at Lancaster County was very nice, well-kept, and it sounded like they had plenty of people. The only problem was that my mother was still testing positive for Covid, so they couldn't take her. I didn't get to know the staff. The person who conducted the tour was a little flighty, but she was nice. We were going to move mom on a Monday, and over the weekend they had a board meeting to decide because my mom had been Covid-free for a month, but she still tested positive. They were going to vote to decide if they were going to take her or not. The whole thing is new, I guess, but for her to not have any symptoms, but to still test positive was the issue, if she is still a carrier and spread it to their home. That's why they decided to say no because nobody knows enough about the virus. There's nothing special about the rooms at Paramount, but they seemed adequate for what my mother would need. The place was well-kept. Everything was well-kept and very nice."

"My mom likes Autumn House West. It's good and reasonable. My mom likes the food. The staff is very friendly and try to do what you ask them. The activities are very nice. It's a nice atmosphere. It doesn't feel like a hospital and feels more like an apartment."

"My brother likes to walk, but at Autumn House East, there were so many corridors. Also, the traffic outside on Market Street was just a mess, and I would not trust him walking out there or crossing the street to get anywhere. With the heavy traffic, he would be splat. The place was beautiful. It was kept up very well. It was more involved with the senior center type furniture, and the people were nice. We really enjoyed visiting there. They even gave my brother ice cream and peaches. It was a nice place to visit. The staff who gave the tour was very good. I didn't see the food, but the menu looked good. The cafeteria where they go and sit at tables was nice. There were a couple of them around at different places. However, the community has a lot of halls. It covers a whole block. They have activities for them to do. They're still in the process of fixing the back for them to be able to sit outside in the yard. They have games, bingo, and stuff like that. They were working on puzzles while we were there. Most of them were sitting around and talking."

"Juniper Village at Mount Joy was a very nice place. The grounds were very nice and pleasant. It was more of a country setting. The dining area was very spacious and clean. The place seemed very clean and very hospitable. "

"My brother is doing very well at Celebration Villa of York. I know he likes it. We liked it the first time we went to see it. The people are very caring. Everybody knows his name. It's very clean. It's a good place. The staff is excellent. They gave us a banana nut cake and that was good, but I have not eaten in the dining hall. My brother says the food is good. The floor plan is a little confusing, but the cleanliness is very good. They keep it very clean. They have lots of activities."

"My mother-in-law has been in Linden Village MCHS for two weeks now. It is all ground level. The staff is very friendly so far. The nurse calls just for an update on how she's doing and everything. The only downside is when she has to go to the doctor if she doesn't take the doctor in the facility, then it's up to the family to take her to appointments. That's the only thing I don't care about. The staff are very friendly and eager to help. They have activities. They mostly have puzzles and bingo. I also know they have exercise classes that they can go to. They have a beauty shop and a community center for when they have different events. They can walk them and there's like a path. It's very nice."

"I did quite a bit of research before we placed my parents in Victorian Villa. We were looking for a facility where my father and mother could be together. There are a lot of places that don't have the space for a couple. My mother looks 10 years younger since she moved there. They take such good care of their residents. She needs to be on a gluten-free diet and they would go way out of their way to accommodate her. They have family nights every now and then. My sister's been over there and she said the food is quite good. It's a small facility. There's only 40 people, so they can give a lot of individual attention. It's always clean, so neat, and there's plenty of staff. There's always someone there. You always see someone around in case they need help. My father has passed, but they went out of their way to meet his needs as well right up till the end. So we're very, very pleased and we feel blessed that we found such a nice facility for our parents. "

"We chose Juniper Village at Lebanon for my grandparents because the staff is amazing. I can't say anything bad about it. The staff is wonderful, and the food is excellent. I've eaten with them twice. That was a big concern for us, because in the other facility they were not being fed properly. We see the staff making special arrangements because my grandparents are on a special diet and a diabetic diet, and they make accommodations for them. I like that they are truly caring and genuine, and there are plenty of activities. They have a gym, a salon, and they have in-house maintenance."

"We had my mom in at Blue Ridge Chateau. The place is small, and so there's not as many people. She seems to like it so far. She has a little apartment with two bedrooms and a bathroom. It also has a little sink and a microwave. I know my mom plays bingo once or twice. The staff was very good. They help her with the medications, and they do all her meals as well. "

"My father will be moving into The Woods at Cedar Run. They were all friendly. My brother and I felt that our dad would be comfortable there. He is going to be getting a lot of good care. The staff and the Director of Nursing were very friendly, helpful, and caring; that is why we decided to go there. The food was good. My brother and I had a free meal along with our dad when we toured the place. I had crab cakes, french fries, and vegetables. We were satisfied, and my father enjoyed the meal. The place was very good and very clean. We liked it a lot compared to where my dad is at now."

"I like Country Meadows of Mechanicsburg the best, and I think they have what I am looking for. The only thing is they have a bigger apartment than I want and they only have a one-bedroom studio. They have two bedrooms, but they're locked in. They don't have enough of them, so I don't want to rent one that's bigger than what I need and I don't want to downsize to something smaller than what I need. The lady gave me the impression that there's no hope in the near future to get one of those because they're rented. They don't have very many of them. That's the only problem with them, but I like them. It's a good place with a good reputation. It's not their fault that they don't have the size of apartment that I want. They have the same amenities. The food, the meals, the snack bars, a place where you watch movies, exercise equipment, and a nice dining room. They don't have swimming pools, golf clubs, and all that stuff, which I don't even bother to look at. It's not a big place, but they don't have that many extras and that's what I'm looking for. They gave me food to take home with me. It was just delicious. They gave me some homemade soup and it was really good. The facility looked really clean."

"Homeland Center was horrendous. It was dingy and very dark, and first impressions were very unfavorable. The facility section that my dad would have been in was one hallway. The room he would have been in had a view of a white brick wall because I pulled open the curtains and I saw a brick wall. The room was very dark and dismal. The space that is allowed for the residents was minimal to the point where I looked outside on the terrace to see what the outdoor section would be like, and it was extremely small. You were looking almost at a barrier, because they had to build a high fence, so there was just no view at all. I felt that every question I asked was met with, "Well, not in this section." I walked out and quite frankly, my husband and I agreed we wouldn't put a dead dog in there. When people said it's lovely, it's not the section we were shown nor was the section he would be allowed to go in. You enter a lobby and then you have to take an elevator. There's no welcoming feeling at all. On the second floor, there was a hallway where the residents gather and live, and it's very confined and very depressing. Walking through it, it felt very institutional and very dated. There's very limited opportunities. I did not see a flow for anything to happen that would be beyond what I'm familiar with in other places. I would never recommend it to anyone. My father would've needed skilled care there, and he was gonna be long term. I'm sure Homeland comes highly recommended, but I don't think it's the area that we saw. When I asked to see that, we were not permitted. So, when I've heard positive things, it's probably truthful on another wing, and I didn't have preview to that. I only know what I saw."
