About Autumn House West in York, Pennsylvania

Autumn House West is a senior housing facility that offers independent living, memory care, and personal care for seniors. With a focus on providing tailored activities to suit the needs of each resident, Autumn House West provides a safe and caring home for those who need assistance with daily living or memory loss. The staff members at Autumn House West are trained in dementia care and are always available to provide assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, doing laundry, and taking medications. This facility is also equipped with 24-hour medical professionals on call for emergencies. For residents who need more than just assistance with daily living or memory loss but require full-time supervision due to wandering off or aggression from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, this facility also offers memory care services that include additional precautionary measures such as locking doors and windows. Memory care services also include mental stimulation through engaging activities such as arts projects and social outings that cater to the interests of each individual resident. For those who want the independence offered by independent living but require some help with basic tasks such as cooking meals or managing their finances, this facility offers personal care services including housekeeping duties like tidying up after residents and laundering their clothes every day. The key difference between independent living and personal care is the level of assistance offered for daily living activities--personal care includes many more tasks while independent living only includes a few basic ones like cooking meals or managing finances without any help from staff members at all.To learn more about this providers license and review other available state reports, please visit: Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Provider Directory

I visited this facility

I toured Autumn House West. This is a very dated facility in the city. They happen to be undergoing a lot of renovations, so that doesn't help. If I could clone the man we spoke to and move him anywhere else and give him something higher than a five, I would. He was very over-the-top friendly and you could tell he cared and offered a lot of information about the whole process and different avenues and how they take care of the resident. So, he was amazing.

I was impressed with Autumn House West. I wouldn't say that they generally cared any more or any less about the individuals there, but it felt like a hotel and the rooms were quite spacious. Everybody had their name on their door as if they were a movie star. They had a situation where you were kind of free to come and go as you wish if you had the mobility to do so. You could go out front and out back. Now, the location wasn't the greatest. I'm quite aware of what the crime rate is in and around that area because of my working in that city, but the whole time I was there, I kind of felt safe. I thought it was a tremendous place. You were allowed to bring, for the most part, your needed things. If you didn't necessarily have a twin bed or a single bed, they would provide you with one. If you had your own dresser, you could bring that in. They allowed you to have your own TV, if that's what you wanted, or your own lift chair or things of that nature, but if you didn't have anything to your name, they would give you something.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband has been in Autumn House West for two years now. The people there are nice. I think they do a nice job there helping out the people who need it. The staff seems good. I think the food is pretty good. It's an attractive building, and they keep after it. It seems nice. Activities could be better though. I think my husband could have more activities. The people that work there are nice, which makes it very pleasant. They work to keep it clean and fresh. The staff are caring, but it's pretty expensive.

My mom is in Autumn House West. It looks very nice and very clean, and the people there seemed happy. They hadn't prepared her room for a new person yet, so they still needed to paint it and everything. But I thought that for the price, I thought it was very small. I thought that all the staff members seemed very friendly. They have crafts, bingo, and movie days. They claimed to have a chef, but my mother says the food's horrible. Everything seems nice, even with the staff, they're very friendly. But they give them call buttons, and they go hours before people respond. My mother's room is supposed to be cleaned weekly, but unless she complains, it doesn't get cleaned. So on the surface, it seems very nice and very clean, but once you get into it, they have some drawbacks. They're not as responsive as they should be.

Autumn House West was a little closer to town. It was nice and the staff were very helpful and very friendly. They have various types of rooms, depending on what you're looking for, and the residents seemed happy. They have a beauty salon, a community room with games and a TV, and a separate kitchen area for the residents to use.

I have visited Autumn House West, they're very professional and very helpful. It was during COVID so things were a little stricter, but we were allowed to bring personal items at that time and we were allowed to visit during normal hours during the day. We're impressed with how professional the staff was. The layout was a little larger than I thought and they simply have the needs that we needed at the time. What was there was sufficient. They have a small common space. I think the food was pretty standard, it wasn't extraordinary by any means, like a restaurant. But it wasn't like hospital food.

Everything about Autumn House West was first class. The biggest problem there was the cost. The room was $2,700 along with some other initial fees. As the care increases, so does the cost, which makes it out of our price range. I think my mom would have been comfortable there and enjoyed it. The lady who toured us was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. They were having an outside picnic when we were there, and they had a musician. There was also a library and a small game room.

My mom will be moving into Autumn House West. The people there are extremely friendly. It's a very, very nice place. The rooms are very clean, a nice size, and very bright. She will be in level one assisted living. I did not to taste the meals however Amber, who was the woman that we have been dealing with is extraordinary. She is over the top. The atmosphere was very, very nice. The people that live there seemed to be extremely friendly and extremely happy. It's a really upbeat atmosphere. They have activities. When we were there, they were getting prepared for their New Year's Eve party. They have painting. They have games that they get a lot of the residents involved with. They have arts and crafts. Their calendar is so full. They bring in live music. They have bingo. They have a lot of activities there.

I visited this facility

We toured Autumn House West and it really was great. All the facilities were fine. It was a little older because it is basically in downtown West York. Everything's included and the dining facilities were more than adequate. It also seemed like the level of care for their residents was fine. The person who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. That's only second on our list, mainly because of location. I live close to York, and you hear all the local news and unfortunately, maybe not exactly in that neighborhood, but in the West York area, there are a lot of shootings weekly. So, depending on finances, if that's all Dad could afford, then it would be fine. My dad, being a country guy, doesn't like the city. The views aren't that great, depending on the room you get. If that place was somewhere else other than in the city, it would be great. Maintenance was fine, it's great. It seemed like everybody was anxious to get their food. The dining facility was more than adequate. It's dated, and obvious that it's an older building, but as far as the maintenance, I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. They keep it up to date. It's not a turnoff to me, though. My dad lives in a house that is probably 50s or even 40s, so as far as that goes, it would be fine. We were well pleased with everything at the facility, it's just the location.

I visited this facility

I visited Autumn House West. I was very pleased when I first arrived, because I walked through a beautiful garden in a nice fenced-in area that was very well kept, very welcoming, and pleasing. It was an area where the residents could come out on their own, sit and relax, or visit with a visitor. When I entered, I was greeted right away by a very caring, friendly staff member. I didn't wait long and the person I had the appointment with took me back and explained everything. I was really happy with what I saw, because the place was someplace that I would feel comfortable myself, and signing another member up or leaving my loved one there in their care. I saw one room, and that particular room had a great view of the garden that I had just walked through when I first entered. It was clean and definitely adequate. The dining area was quaint and welcoming, and I was happy that it was smaller. It's a smaller facility, and I just was really happy with everything I saw. I also saw that they have in one of the activity rooms a barber/hair salon. They have two outdoor facilities for the residents to spend time with each other, or outside on their own. I found out that they have bus trips and regular bus visits to Walmart. My uncle could probably use it once a week. I didn't see any food or anything, but they told me that the guests have two choices for breakfast, lunch, and supper, so I thought that was excellent. The facility was very clean and I was totally impressed.

My tour at Autumn House West was a nice experience. It was a nice community, well-kept, and very organized. They explained everything in detail as far as everything they have in the rooms for the person living there. And about how they take them shopping, that they have an in-house doctor to help them in case they need help. They take them to doctors' appointments. So everything is pretty much there to help residents have a good living there. The person who gave me the tour was pretty good, she showed me the entire area, where they eat their food, wash their clothes, and the entertainment section where they can gather and discuss things. She finished it up by showing me one of the rooms, which was like a hotel setup and very nice. The dining area was nice. Everything was well taken care of, I didn't see anything negative at all.

Our tour experience at Autumn House West was very good. They were very informative, and they answered all our questions. They were very cordial and just easy to talk to. I was impressed with the tour. The workers were very friendly and seemed to be caring from what I saw. The residents seemed to be happy, too. The workers were very helpful with the residents, whenever they had questions or needed any help. The admission coordinator was very helpful and very informative. He answered any questions that we had. He spoke to my family member, tried to get to know him, and tried to make a good fit for us. The place was very clean, neat, and well organized.

We went with Autumn House West. My mother moved in end of May. We are very pleased with our overall experience. The staff is very caring and they have taken very good care of my mom. The room is a basic room, nothing spectacular but it is functional. Since it's COVID, meals are delivered to their rooms and the meals are good. They do not have any activities yet but they are hoping to resume. It is close to where she lives and is reasonably priced. Plus the staff is great.

Our sister is extremely happy at Autum House West. Our first experience was with Michael H., and he is top notch. He convinced us that our sister would be in good hands. So far he has not left us down. The facility is very clean and well kept. All the staff are extremely helpful, caring and kind. The rooms are spacious enough. Some personal care homes i have visited, the residents would have to share a room or have extremely small bedrooms. They have constant actives for the residents, which is so helpful. We would recommend Autum House to anyone for the care of their loved one.

My mom likes Autumn House West. It's good and reasonable. My mom likes the food. The staff is very friendly and try to do what you ask them. The activities are very nice. It's a nice atmosphere. It doesn't feel like a hospital and feels more like an apartment.

Barley Autumn is very nice, but the people are too old, though everybody seems happy. The building is wider and very nice inside, but the rooms are smaller. The staff is very friendly and works really hard.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When I would go visit my grandfather at the nursing home the employees that worked there were so caring. They would come visit my grandfather often to check up on him. They knew our names and who our grandfather was when we would ask how he was doing. I was really impressed with how clean and orderly is there. They are not too pushy for the residents to do activities if they don't want too. The food they serve is something I know I would enjoy if I lived there and my grandfather enjoys it as well. Everyone is just so friendly and never seems to act inappropriately towards my grandfather. My impression on the facility on the outside is that they have wonderful space for the residents to enjoy as well as the visitors. The nurses are just wonderful people! I can't thank them enough for what all they had done for my grandfather when he was living!
