Assisted Living Communities in Johnstown, PA

"My mom has been in The Villa since February. It's very, very nice and we are very happy with it. They have activities that she participates in and the meals are very balanced and good. She's happy with it. The room is quite large and she's able to have a bed and her love seat there. It also has another chair and a table so it's very comfortable. I don't live in the same town, so I'm not there to get every detail about their activities but I was talking to my mother and she said that she goes to all of them. They have exercise classes, bingo, and crafts, and she's pleased with them. Comparing them to other places in this location, it's less expensive but very nice. One of the reasons that we chose it and we liked it a lot is that there are only 35 units and it's not connected with a nursing home, which could be quite large if it's a nursing home and assisted living. This facility is just assisted living."

"We were impressed with The Atrium. It really was a nice place. The staff members were very nice. They were wonderful. When we visited the residents were having their lunch time, so we didn't see many activities. We heard from the staff member that gave us the tour that they have daily activities. Overall, we don't have any issue with regard to the place. At the top level (AKA the third level), they have skylights, which my aunt really likes. They have good lounging area, which is a nice plus. The room was a pretty good size for one person. It had a nice layout. We talked to one of the staff members there and she was very nice."

"Dad went here for respite care two years ago. The facility was fantastic. The care given to my father during his stay was excellent. They were attentive to his needs. It was a one- bedroom with a private bathroom. My dad thought the food was delicious. I know they had daily activities, but I honestly don't remember what they were. I know that they had fitness activities. They had entertainers come in, card games, and board games."

"My mom had been at Rosewood Manor before. It was a very clean facility but the level of care just wasn't there. They had beautiful rooms, and their physical therapy department was top notch. She got a lot of good care there. They're severely understaffed, and the level of safety was my major concern. The meals were fabulous. "

"My brother was in Westmont Woods (Presbyterian Home of Greater Johnstown) for therapy, but it was too expensive for him to go into assisted living. It's a beautiful, nice, and modern-looking building. They had so much staff, and the rooms were small and felt cramped. They treated him well, but I wasn't really happy with it. Communication was very poor, and the staff was just too busy. They had a lot of help, but none of them could spend too much time with him because they were filled to capacity with patients. "

"The Lutheran Home at Johnstown is very nice, very clean, and the staff is very helpful. My dad has a one-bedroom unit with a bath and it's very decently spacious. My dad enjoys the food. The facility is very well kept. They have Bible studies, get-togethers like ice cream socials or a family picnic, crafts, and exercise in the morning. It's just what I would expect from them for that price."

"My uncle was a past resident of Richland Woods. They seemed like they went over and above with my uncle in particular. They really took the time to get to know him, befriend him, which I thought was real cool, 'cause he's not really a likeable guy. He can be impatient, and he can lash out at times. Every single time Richland Woods would pull back, and they'd approach a different angle, and they would eventually get him to do what he needed to do. They just really worked with him. All the other things in the facility were great, they just were really helpful moving him in, moving him out, getting new furniture delivered, every step of the way, super helpful. The head nurse, Sheryl, was knowledgeable with his care. She could tell you right off the bat all his meds, how he's doing with them, and give advice on considerations for maybe making adjustments, and things like that. I have nothing bad at all to say. They sometimes had performers come in, they kept him semi-busy, which was good. The apartment was spacious enough for him, and just what he needed."

"My parents have selected Laurel View Village. The cleanliness is a five. The staff is very helpful, pleasant, and very friendly. They were able to answer all the questions. I have talked to others who have eaten there and gave the food high reviews."

"St Jude's Haven was good. They showed us the room, the beauty shop, where they do the laundry, and where they do the cooking, and it was all very nice. Kate was pretty good. She was very nice and explained everything. She told us that they do the laundry every day for the residents, and that the laundry area is sanitized every day. The facility was very clean, and I think my mother-in-law would like it better there than where she's at."

"I find the Church of the Brethen home to be a clean facility with limited staff. The staff at times is overwhelmed by the amount of total care patients. If you are a resident that is able to take care of your own personnel needs and you require limited assistance from the nursing staff, this would be an excellent facility to reside in. "

"Wonderful, caring, kind, compassionate staff. Every staff member I’ve talked with have been super helpful. This is a clean facility as well. You won’t find staff standing around talking with each other because they are always working. Whenever I have asked for help with my aunt I’ve been met with a positive response and attitude. I can’t say enough good things about this facility. Thank you Laurelwood for taking such good care of my auntie!!"
