"Barnes Place was very nice, very clean, and up-to-date, and it had good lighting. The dining room looked like you're going to dine in a restaurant somewhere. They've only shown me 2 apartments and they're also nice and clean. The person who gave us the tour was named Stephanie, was very nice and gave us a lot of information. She also called us afterwards to find out what we're going to do. It's more modern, open, with more sunlight and so on. The apartments have their own little kitchen. It's like your own little room and you have everything you need."

"Emeritus at Latrobe did not meet the criteria of what we were looking for. It was very nice, but we do not want an assisted living facility. The dining area and everything else was beautiful, and if I was looking for that type of facility, I would not have problems going there. The facilities that they had were wonderful. The residents seemed OK. They all looked fine. Some were playing cards, and some were doing other activities. The rooms were nice, and the staff seemed friendly enough. "

"My Grandfather was cared for here for 5 years. The location of St, Andrews Village is perfect for those living anywhere around Indiana and close to the Indiana Regional Medical Center just in case. The staff is extremely empathetic and gentle, but politely firm when the need arises. The living spaces are modern, clean, and bright. They have all the proper things for special needs patients who use wheelchairs or walkers. The food is also very good with great variety to keep the resident satisfied. For the more mobile residents there are plenty of offsite activities as dining, theater, arts, colleges, libraries, etc._ The directors seem to value dialogue as well. They actually listen and try to make things as comfortable as possible for residents living here. They also have excellent security in place to keep residents and visitors safe. They also make accommodations for couples to stay together as much as possible too. Overall a very nice facility. "

"I toured the Moorehead Place. Everything was about the same, but the cost was the biggest thing. They do per day, and they don't do a minimum of two weeks or even a month like that. It's very clean, and the people were super nice. It's a really nice layout and stuff. They actually have some rooms with step-in showers, which is all I really need. It's super nice and super clean. It's carpeted. As far as the local hospital goes, they're probably within about four miles out. There are a lot of regular and fast-food restaurants on the main highway. It's probably only maybe two miles to the local hospital. There are two grocery stores right there, too."

"Loyalhanna Senior Suites & Personal Care is a very nice place. Mom is in personal care. Her room's huge and has a very big bathroom. When you go down the halls, you're almost like at a hotel. Their dining area is really big and friendly, and they have a sitting area where it looks like you could pull up and have a cocktail if you wanted. They have a movie theater on their fourth floor and a library. They have four floors and they have different things on each floor. Just like any place, they're understaffed, but the girls that are there are very nice. It's clean and very nice. It doesn't smell. Their rooms are big. She has a bed, a recliner, kitchenette, little fridge, cabinets, a sink, TV, big closet, and a big bathroom. The layout is pretty nice and spacious. She likes it. There are days the food's not great. The dining area is real big and open. There's a fireplace in there. They always have it decorated and what I really like about it is they have a staff that comes around, almost like you're at a restaurant and they'll tell you what they're having for the day. If you don't care for that, they have other options that you can pick. There's something going on every day. They have bingo and crafts. I think they had some kind of little golf thing going on the other day. They have ice cream socials and milkshake socials. They have happy hours. I'm trying to get my father in over there too and the pricing they gave me was a little bit cheaper than what they wanted for two people up at the other place and there's so much more offered here at Loyalhanna."

"I chose Latrobe for my mother-in-law because it's close to where we live and they offer dementia care. The facility itself is clean. Some of the furniture are a bit worn out but not dirty. To me though the most important thing is their care for my mother-in-law. The staff all seem very nice and eager to make her feel at home. They also have been treating her very well and are concerned about what she likes to do. They have lots of activities for her there. I've also eaten there and I thought the food is very good. "

"Ligonier is a very nice facility with large staff. The food is good, and they’re taking very good care of my mother. She’s got a single room and it's large enough for her living room furniture and tables. The building is very well-maintained and cleaned. "

"My mother originally came to Laurelwood after she fell and the staff were amazing. She made so many new friends, and really enjoyed watching the deer go by her room every day. Laurelwood was able to get her back up on her feet again, which was great, but we decided she wasn't safe being at home by herself anymore and decided to move her into Amber Springs, the personal care side of Laurelwood. It was so nice to have everything we needed in one place with staff that we could trust. I definitely recommend this home if you need care. "

"My mother-in-law had some respite stay in Country Cottage. The facility was clean, nice and well-kept. It is quite and has a laid-back atmosphere. The care was good and they were very nice. The owner was very nice and very accommodating, though there doesn't seem like a lot of staff, but I think they seemed okay. However, whenever we needed them, they usually don't have a bed available and there wasn't much activities for her. We have decided to place her in a nursing home. "

"The Lutheran Home at Johnstown is very nice, very clean, and the staff is very helpful. My dad has a one-bedroom unit with a bath and it's very decently spacious. My dad enjoys the food. The facility is very well kept. They have Bible studies, get-togethers like ice cream socials or a family picnic, crafts, and exercise in the morning. It's just what I would expect from them for that price."

"My brother was in Westmont Woods (Presbyterian Home of Greater Johnstown) for therapy, but it was too expensive for him to go into assisted living. It's a beautiful, nice, and modern-looking building. They had so much staff, and the rooms were small and felt cramped. They treated him well, but I wasn't really happy with it. Communication was very poor, and the staff was just too busy. They had a lot of help, but none of them could spend too much time with him because they were filled to capacity with patients. "

"My experience at The Atrium was positive. They had a really nice dining area. The rooms were set up more like a home instead of an assisted living area that was big enough for them to bring their own furniture. There were a lot of sitting areas for them to go out and walk around in the building. The people living there didn't seem unhappy. The only person that I met was the lady at the front desk who gave us a tour. She was very friendly and spoke with all of the people who lived there like she knew them by name and had a personal relationship with them. I didn't have a family member living there, but the visit was nice. "

"My mom has been in The Villa since February. It's very, very nice and we are very happy with it. They have activities that she participates in and the meals are very balanced and good. She's happy with it. The room is quite large and she's able to have a bed and her love seat there. It also has another chair and a table so it's very comfortable. I don't live in the same town, so I'm not there to get every detail about their activities but I was talking to my mother and she said that she goes to all of them. They have exercise classes, bingo, and crafts, and she's pleased with them. Comparing them to other places in this location, it's less expensive but very nice. One of the reasons that we chose it and we liked it a lot is that there are only 35 units and it's not connected with a nursing home, which could be quite large if it's a nursing home and assisted living. This facility is just assisted living."

"My father has been at Ark Manor since the March. I liked their coordinator. Shes very helpful, very friendly, and answers all your questions. I liked where the place is located, that its a 70-bed unit, and the overall atmosphere of it. Somebody comes in with pets on a Monday, they have big church gatherings, family nights, movie nights, and I think they have cookouts in the summertime. The dining area is open, airy, and a restaurant setting."

"My mother used to be in Mountain View. In the two weeks that she was there, I had a very good impression of the staff, the facility, and pretty much everything. I had no negative impressions there at all. I've seen a couple of places in the area, and this place appeared better than some of them. This one resonated better with me than some of the other ones, they are more proactive and concise. The facility looked nice and clean, people were cheerful, and the staff was extremely helpful. I haven't eaten there, but I saw one set of meals delivered though my mom was unable to eat them at the time."

154 BASH ROAD, Commodore, PA 15729

"Bash's Personal Care Home in Commodore, Pennsylvania is an assisted living facility that feels more like a home than an institution. Nestled at the end of a country road, the residents can sit on the covered porch or look out the windows and see cattle grazing in the field and birds nesting in the trees. It is a very peaceful setting where the staff and workers treat the residents as treasured family members. Surrounded by farms, Bash's has room for approximately 40 residents. Most residents have a private room, although you may choose to share a room with a family member or friend. The rooms are small, but they are kept clean and there is ample storage for clothing and other belongings. The one down side of Bash's is that there are shared bathrooms in the main halls, which can be inconvenient for those who require a high level of assistance. I'm sure that the number of toilets meets the standard that is set by state regulators, however I think it would be nice if they could consider adding more bathrooms in the future. The facility is all on one level and the dining area and common living areas are adjacent to each other, so residents are never far from one another at any time. There are a number of activities to keep minds sharp and alert, including bingo, arts and crafts, Bible study and card games. The residents are well cared for, and for the most part, seem happy and content. The nearest town and hospital is about 15 miles away, which is also a drawback. During the winter months, bad weather can make it difficult for vehicles to make it out to the main roads or for ambulances to get in. So if you have a loved one considering a move to Bash's, think about whether they might need to have medical care on a regular basis. This family-run facility takes pride in the way it treats its guests. It is not a fancy place, but it provides clean and comfortable accommodations for those with limited resources. Since it is a bit off the beaten path, you might want to call for specific directions before you go to visit. It may be a little hard to find once you get off one of the main highways. However, once you pull into the gravel driveway, you will be welcomed home with open arms. "
