We toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor. I was much more impressed with the staff than the facility. It's an older facility. The location is just a little more remote. There are some things about it that I wasn't excited about. The staff was very helpful. He helped us tour the facility. He was knowledgeable and compassionate. He was more than thoughtful.

We are moving forward with moving my mom into Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor. When we first got there it was a very clean and well-kept facility. The staff was fantastic. They definitely took their time and got to know what our needs were, what my mother's interests were, and gave me a tour. It was very, very good. They met every need that I had. Even after the gentleman went home, he was reaching out to me on a couple of things. Their customer service level was fantastic. The room that we're getting initially was more than what we wanted to pay for, but that's the only one that they had available. But they had set it up so that we could move in about two weeks to a smaller room that's more right for us. They had that all set up to happen because it's being refurbished now. They went out of their way just to make sure that we'll get what we want. I felt so confident and they really met my needs that we actually were able to walk out of there with the application and go from there. We did review the meal board and the selection, and everything looked extremely good. Mom was actually able to make comments about the different items on it. They used the fresh from the farm to the facility availability for their products. Most of the products were farm raised locally. The facility was definitely clean. We didn't see anything to think that they were not. They had two different courtyards. One of them had a little grill in it. There was definitely plenty of seating for guests to go and sit, and they had areas of shade and sunlight. The staff walked me through both of those, and they were located centrally so that everybody had access to them.

I had a good tour of Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor. We enjoyed it. The staff was very informative. Every question that we asked, they answered it. All the rooms are clean and very spacious. It was nice and quiet. They have little games such as bingo and some types of arts and crafts, too.

Georgian Manor has been so beneficial for my mom and our complex family situation. Highly Recommend them. They have been very flexible with our unique needs. Staff are always jovial and uplifting, providing helpful advice on what's best for mom. They also provide a caregivers support group which is particularly helpful.

After determining that my mother could no longer be able to live on her own, we started looking for assisted care facilities in Chesapeake Virginia. We were looking for a place that we could transition into additional services when needed and one that my mother would feel at home when in her own room. Upon visiting Georgian Manor, we were impressed with the friendliness and cleanliness as well as the longevity of the staff that would be looking after my mother. We also were able to decorate my mom’s room to make it feel like home as much as possible. Three months later, my mother has made numerous friends, thoroughly loves the staff, and loves the food. In addition to social activities, she enjoys sitting outside in their courtyard and eating meals with her new friends.

My father resided in Georgian Manor for almost 3 years. He was nearly 100 years old when he passed. It was a long journey for him as his health slowly declined, suffering many physical losses until he was totally bedbound. The management and staff worked well with us in keeping him comfortable and addressing his increased care needs. They were professional, thoughtful and compassionate.

I placed my Dad at Georgian Manor in October of 2017 after a sudden decline in his health. The facility is bright, clean and airy, the staff is very welcoming and they take very good care of their residents. There are always plenty of activities for the residents and they really take the time and effort to make both the residents and their families feel at home. I especially want to thank the Executive Director and all the staff for their professionalism and kindness. Being that I don’t live close by, my Dad’s phone was my lifeline to him and the staff was always so generous in helping me troubleshoot and correct any problems that arose. I can’t thank them enough for taking such good care of my Dad. It gave me such peace of mind to know that he was in such great hands and that there were plenty of eyes watching over him. I know finding a place to care for your loved one is not an easy decision, but I would highly recommend Georgian Manor to anyone in need of their valuable assistance.

I have placed my mom into Georgian Manor. The people certainly are friendly. They treat my mom fantastic. They work with you to try to figure out what the best care would be for your mom's needs. Also the place is clean. I never hesitate wanting to go in there because I know it's going to be clean. My mom doesn't seem to be unhappy; she seems to be quite pleased. She said the food is great, too. It's a good deal. It's newer than most so they don't have a strange smell to it. That's one of the things that we like about it. It's fresh, it's new, and it's clean. She participates in bingo, games, dominoes, and things like that. They have arts and crafts as well. They also have celebrations and little parties like Veterans Day. They usually have some kind of party going on.

My mom was a resident in Sweet Memories from April-Dec 2019. Mom had a fairly rare disease process that wasn't always predictable. Everyone took amazing care of her and kept us in the loop when there were changes in her health. Staff encouraged her to participate in activities and engaged with the other residents. We couldn't have asked for a better location for mom's final months!

CSL Georgian Manor has been a very positive experience for our mother and for us. The staff is loving and available. Mom has received very good care and attention in the 3 years she has lived here. There are many activities including family events to keep residents and their loved ones connected. The building is always spotless and inviting. If you are in need of living assistance for yourself or a loved one, we recommend you check into what Georgian Manor has to offer.

Our family faced a difficult situation in which we had to find a place for mom. Georgian Manor was our answer! During this time, the staff was kind, warm and supportive answering so many questions that we had regarding special care and medicines. The facility is clean and well maintained and has an inviting feel to it. The rooms are of good size and have handicap restrooms and showers. I personally tasted the meal that was served to my mom and the food is good with choices given. Just recently, we had Thanksgiving dinner at the community. The dining room was nicely set up and the food was delicious. They also provide activities to do and places to go for their residents including in-house church services. We appreciate the continued kindness and care for mom from the staff at the community.

I have been very impressed with this facility. The staff and caregivers are extremely kind and caring to the clients. The rooms are large, like a Holiday Inn hotel room, with large bathrooms to facilitate wheelchairs. Showers are large and have fold down seating to accommodate safer showering. There are many activities to participate in, and a lovely large activities room. The dining room is professionally appointed, always clean, with tables that seat from 2 to 6. Georgian Manor has a professional chef who makes delicious selections for three meals a day. And, most importantly, the facility is clean and comfortable. I am glad we are there!

Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor is the place that I'm still interested in getting my mom in. Their pet therapy is very appealing. I really like the place. I loved the staff member; she was great. They didn't have a swimming pool, but the amenities were very appealing. I liked Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor for my mother. The room is very nice and isn't dark. The place itself is very appealing on the outside as well. It was in a residential neighborhood, and felt very homey.

A woman that I care for recently moved into the "Sweet Memories" neighborhood at Georgian Manor. In the 20 years that I have known her, I have never seen her happier. The staff makes sure that they are doing activities that specifically make her happy and the food is outstanding. It has me thinking about a move into assisted living myself.

My 98 year old mother has lived at Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor in Chesapeake for 4 years. The entire staff – management, nurses, aides, kitchen, housekeeping and maintenance – take pride in their work and service to the residents. They go above and beyond to ensure the safety and care of everyone who lives at the facility. Recently, following the evacuation order by Virginia’s governor for Hurricane Florence, the residents were relocated from Chesapeake to another Commonwealth Senior Living facility in Williamsburg. I was told that while families are not discouraged to take their loved ones home with them, we are encouraged to let the Georgian Manor staff take responsibility for their well-being. My job requires my availability during severe weather so it was comforting to know she was in their care. They were at that facility for almost a week and returned to Chesapeake safe and well. That was no small undertaking but I knew my mother was in good hands. I remember last Thanksgiving my husband and I had the holiday meal at Georgian Manor. I thanked each staff member for being there on that special family day and not one showed any sign of not wanting to be there. They were caring, loving and attentive as always. It’s their job, I realize that, but they were smiling and looking out for all of us, residents and guests, to be sure we were enjoying our special day. My mother is very happy there and always says how clean the facility is. She has good, balanced meals, activities and is receives the best care available. Commonwealth Senior Living is the best to care for our loved ones.

You’re reading this because you’re in the difficult position of trying to decide how to manage a loved one in decline. I found myself in that position about a year ago when my formerly independent mother was unable to manage her daily activities. To be honest, I didn’t know the difference between independent living vs. assisted living vs. memory care and was very overwhelmed with the complexity of the situation. I did research but this only made the situation appear more complicated. In the end, I consulted with an independent (free) service that provides direction to people in these situations. They provided me with guidance and an initial list of about 10 assisted living/memory care facilities to research and visit. I spent 3 months researching and visiting the various facilities and revisited some as many as 3 times. The factors that you have to deal with are cost, quality of care, condition of the facility and other items that never occurred to you. This is not a task to be taken lightly as relocating your family member from one facility to another is not necessarily a viable option as the ‘settling in’ process is often very stressful for someone who was formerly living independently. In the end, I found that management is one of the strongest features of a facility. In the case of Georgian Manor, management has a cascading effect from the top down. What that means is that everyone is well trained, professional and courteous and the facility is meticulously maintained. I found factors of this in other operations but did not feel comfortable with some of the shortcomings in the other facilities. Another feature that you should consider in your decision is whether the facility has a separate ‘memory care’ facility on premises should your family member need additional care. Dirk Van Vort

My parents moved in last Tuesday. The care has been wonderful. They're so nice, right there, and alert. Anything my parents want, they're right there for them. I couldn't be more pleased. They're very friendly, knowledgeable with what they do, and very patient with the residents. The rooms, bathrooms, dining room, and other facilities are nice and clean. They have a library and involve the residents in the activities.

Well, it's been a hell of a two weeks in our lives but now, because both my parents are safe and sound and very happy and comfortable at Georgian Manor, all of us can rest in peace. Both my parents are 93 yrs old, Mom takes care of dad who has Altzheimers, and they have been married 72 years, so you can well imagine that they are connected at the hip. They are still connected at the hip in their lovely room at GM and believe it or not, it's only day 3. Mom wouldn't give in to any help as she's a very independent woman, however, a few weeks ago she realized she had no choice......she finally accepted help. We visited several assisted living places but this one really put the icing on the cake !!!! First contact was Maria who is the Senior Executive Director, and God put her on this earth just to do what she's doing. She's incredible !!!! So much so that the very first day we visited GM, on her way home she stopped at my parents house to meet my father because he wasn't with us at the visit.. The rest is history. My mom is so happy there.. She's busy decorating her room, said the people are wonderful there and she just adores the food. Why wouldn't she, she's been preparing meals for so many years and now she feels like she's going to a restaurant 3 times a day. There is also a lot to do there in the "community" and as soon as mom gets totally adjusted I know she'll be going to either a bible study class, make that appointment to get her hair done right on the premises and she's just "chillin" now knowing there is always someone around. The family is thrilled that they are safe and sound and well taken care of. If you're looking for a place for your family members, don't hesitate. Call and ask for Maria, you'll be talking with an incredible human being that has the patience of a saint and the love and kindness in her heart that is needed to love the elderly, and she runs a wonderful place they call the "community". She's a breath of fresh air !!!!!

My Mom has been living at "The Manor" for a year and it is better then I ever expected. We had toured many area senior homes but never found one this perfect. The staff is very friendly and helpful above and beyond what their job description requires. When I can't be there for my mom- the staff step right in and help with her ipad issues, cell phone questions and keeping her engaged and active in life. . The residents are all on one floor so no worries about stairs or elevators. Local churches are welcome to visit and hold bible study and many enjoy that aspect of community. The meals are very good and the kitchen staff is very helpful if there are special requests or needs. I visit at all different times and days and I am always greeted with a smile and an update on the community news, Mom has made several good friends and enjoys being around people who are relaxed and happy where they are. Social activities are available but never forced on the residents and families are welcome to join in with any activity. The Manor feels like home! I am thrilled that I don't worry about Mom being home alone anymore and she is thrilled to not be frightened of the "what ifs." (What if I fall, what if I burn the pot, what if I forget to eat, what if i get sick) Thank- you Georgian Manor for giving us peace of mind.

It was an absolutely lovely place. If my mother had the money and was not as physically disabled as she is, then this is where I would want her to go. I had a nice conversation with the director, and they had wonderful activities that I know my mother would have been interested in. They do have a totally separate unit for memory care, which is also very nicely done, and I liked that. It was a really lovely neighborhood. I walked out of there feeling very positive. The problem is that it was a two-story, large place, which with my mother’s limitations would have made it difficult for her. My mother probably needs only assisted living as she could not have managed to get around by herself. It was a beautiful place. The staff was wonderful. All of them came up and introduced themselves to me. I met quite a few of the staff who were very positive and hopeful to see my mom. The overall experience was great. The people were great and the staff was great. I loved the place and the neighborhood it was in. This would have been the place for my mother.

My parents moved into assisted living at another location in July, 2016. Because mom is in mid-stage Alzheimer's, my parents were forced into the late-stage, lock-down memory care unit. They were miserable. We toured other locations., but Georgian Manor stood out. The brand identity is that of a "community" for seniors in their "sunshine years" (instead of the usual, sterile "facility"). The community is equipped for Aging in Place, which means my parents can enjoy residential/assisted living, together, as long as reasonably possible, during my mom's Alzheimer's journey. The staff is exceptionally qualified in senior care. LPNs provide excellent oversight and management of personalized care plans. Med-Techs are on-site around the clock to administer medications which is a critical need for my parents. Maintenance is genuinely happy to help residents with moving furniture, getting cable/tv up and running, etc. The dining/hospitality is FIRST RATE and provides residents with ability to choose their meals. Menus include nutritious meals/snacks and local fare. There is a monthly activity calendar with a range of activities designed to engage & stimulate across dimensions: Physical, Spiritual, Creative, Music, Field Trips, and Family Nights. I was touched when I received photos/updates of my parents participating in activities. Pricing is comparable to other assisted living communities in Chesapeake with options to meet financial goals. When it's time for mom to move to memory care, she'll experience a differentiated program called "Sweet Memories" focused on artistic/creative engagement with dementia residents. My entire family is beyond impressed with Georgian Manor--I think you will be too.

It seemed very nicely laid out and had nice activities. The staff member was very friendly and helpful, and she was telling us about the calendar of activites and the things that went on. They had different activities each month, like Mexican month. The dining area was not really big, but the tables were formally set up. The overall layout was what impressed me the most. There was a nice garden area in the middle.

The staff was amazing. It’s a very large, very nice, and well-kept community. I could see everybody who works there loved their job. The food was really great, and they actually grow their own produce. The rooms were very nice but a little bit expensive for us. They had a lot of activities for their residents and a lot of opportunities for the residents’ families to come in and join in their activities.

The people were very nice. It was a beautiful place with lots of light. I liked some of the rooms. We had dinner there, which was very good. They had a variety of games and things to do, and a cute library area where they had snacks and drinks set up, or you could sit there and read or something in a very nice area with a little table and a few seats. They had some drinks like lemonade, water, and tea and different snacks. The staff was wonderful and all very nice.

It was very nice, but I wasn’t that impressed, because they had a little, tiny bit of an odor in their locked-down unit. The rooms were smaller. The staff was nice, and everybody I talked to was nice.

My mother and I are very hard to please. She recently stayed at this facility for seven days to give me a respite and I must say the service and stay were superior. The dining accommodations were great and meals very well prepared. The rooms are large and inviting; and the staff was very caring, supportive, and accommodating. My mother (who didn't want to go) was sad to leave. Without a doubt, I highly recommend this facility.

I felt like it had a very homey atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. They looked engaged. The rooms were very spacious. There were lots of activities. They have bands that would come in, they would do dancing stuff on the Wii, and they have exercise, just to name a few. I think for its location, the staff, and the room sizes, Georgian Manor would be a place that I feel comfortable having my mother.

I felt like it was the right size and that my husband wouldn’t get lost there as far as locating from where his room is to the dining room and living room area. Right now, they only have maybe 22 patients in the memory care department, and I felt like that was a nice group for my husband. The staff was very friendly, very happy, and caring. I can’t say enough nice things about the staff. They were very helpful to me and made my husband feel like he was very special. It’s a nice big room; he has a dresser, a bed, a TV, and his own bathroom. The food has been very good, my husband has eaten very well, and he is not complaining at all about the food.
