"The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My grandmother really liked it there. The food was hot, and most of the staff would go above and beyond to make the resident feel comfortable. There was a nice garden to enjoy, and several rooms for activities such as card playing. The only thing that I wish was different, was the fact that there was smoking allowed right by the front entrance, and every time I would go visit her I had to walk into a cloud of smoke. There was also a rehab and workout facility provided. "

"My father entered Golden Living in May of 2009. I liked the facility for the most part. On one side there was the assisted living, and the other side was a nursing home. I liked the fact that it was a place that an elder could spend the remainder of their life. The staff was also very friendly. I think my only complaint was the horrible smell coming from some of the rooms from time to time when I would walk through the nursing home side to get to the payment office. I think there should be more separation between the two wings. However, I understand that these things are to be expected in this type of facility. I also did not care for the color of the walls. It was very pink,not that I am not a fan of the color pink, but sometimes there is such a thing as too much pink. I also did not care for the color of the floor tile. All in all, I think that this facility is probably the best in the area. I think that the best thing about them is that they remain in constant contact with the residents and their families. They treat each and every person like a human being, and give the elders the respect that they deserve. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. "

"My brother is in Portsmouth Health and Rehab. It's every person's nightmare, whatever your picture of what a nursing home should not be is where he's at. It's an old facility. When you go in there, the halls are full of nothing but elderly people and wheelchairs sitting out there with their heads down to the middle of their knees. And that's how they watch them. If you push the button for help, he's lucky if he sees them in two hours. They're supposed to feed him because he cannot, he's not mobile with his hands. They bring his meal there, the tray, and then just leave and never come back to feed him, and they wonder why he gets frustrated when they do come back. I didn't want him there to begin with. It's in a terrible neighborhood. So it's not a neighborhood that I even like to go to at night, even more so during the day. And it seemed like the more I was there, the less they were helping him. So it even got to the point that when he would ask them to do some, they were saying, "Let your sister do it." So I pretty well had to back off because I was doing their job. And that's not what I want to do. I don't want to work in a nursing home. So, if you will do their job, they will let you do their job. Meanwhile, he would call me with problems. I would call up there and nobody would ever seem to answer the phone. Their turnover is horrible there. I was calling over there to have the information transferred to the new facility, and the social services, I talked to her Wednesday, I called Thursday, they transferred for me to leave a message, and when I called that Friday, she'd quit. Out of 91 residents that live there, only seven residents have family visit them. They want you to set up an appointment to go visit your loved ones, and they're still adamant about this COVID. I show up when I want to. I'm not going to set an appointment to go visit my brother because I don't want anybody to plan when I show up, because that's how I can catch what they're doing over there. For the amount of service that you get there, you're still paying too much. It's an old building. It's got old furniture in there. It's a little space in there, and the roommates are not compatible. He was staying there with another gentleman that did not walk, or could talk. And when I set the bags of stuff down to put it in a nightstand, the guy next to us was trying to go underneath the curtain and steal the bags of stuff. And then when I said something to the nurse's aide, she said, "Oh, yeah, he's mean as hell," and I said, "And my brother's here bedridden and you got him stuck in a room with somebody this mean?" They definitely knew my concerns. When they found out that I wanted the information transferred to the new facility, all of a sudden they wanted me to come into a meeting for this care planning. I got in there with eight of them, all of them specialized in something, and none of them do anything. So that was a useless meeting. So I knew right then what the problem was, everybody's got power and nobody's doing the work. That's what all that was."

"I have seen many Nursing homes across the nation and I am a bit confused concerning the previous reviews of this facility . It is by far the cleanest I have seen and it doesn’t smell of urine like the others. The staff and nurses are very compassionate and caring toward my mother who is almost 102 years old. The only thing I have heard her complain about is the food , which she says is tasteless. She is an awesome cook who knows how to season food so I understand her disdain. At her age, she should not be denied salt and other spices! Let her enjoy her meals. She has a DNR on file and is not concerned about dying, especially from the things she eat. Before you complain about this facility, visit some others. I have sang for and ministered to the elderly in many facilities and would not hesitate to recommend this place. "I looked at Heritage Hall Virginia Beach. It is a large place, but I like the smallness of the other community. The rooms were fine. They had both semi-private and private rooms that were a nice size. They had a big dining area, a therapy room, and a beauty shop. The lady that took us around knew the residents. She was speaking to them by name. It was very impressive that residents were people and not just another number."

"My father moved into Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia. It was a good placement for my dad based on the five facilities that I looked at. My dad has been taken care of. He's doing pretty good and improving. The people there have contacted me regularly and updated me on his status and his progress, so it was good communication. The facility is very nice, clean, well maintained, and well organized. My dad has a room to himself, a full shower, and all the amenities in his bedroom. He has a lift that allows him to get out of the bed and get into a wheelchair so he can move around the facility. He has a TV and telephone. They have a single occupancy or double occupancy. They have a barbershop, a laundry room, and a dining facility. They have physical therapy units where they can do physical therapy. They have a general area where they can go, meet, and talk to other folks."

"This is a great facility to go for rehabilitation. I was a patient there for 2 weeks and my stay was such a great experience. The staff was super supportive. My room was great! Had the bed by the window where I was closer to the air conditioner since I am always got. There are activities planned everyday so you can choose which activities you want to participate in."

"It's a nice Catholic place, and I had very good reviews from quite a few people. I went to visit the place, and it is very clean. The nurses and caretakers are wonderful people. The rooms are very nice as well. She said that the food was great. The dining room was very nice. They have every activity you can think of. They have music, and they have an ice cream social. They can go out for a ride and shopping. I met their activities director, and they are very nice. They keep her busy on whatever she wants to do. They have very helpful people, and my sister was very impressed. I am very pleased to have found this place, and I feel that my sister would be very safe there. "

"My mother-in-law is in Carrington. The care is OK, the people who care for her are nice, and her needs are taken care of. It was always clean, and she was fed, so the major things that were important were taken care of. The bathroom facilities were also kept up. "
