Arlington is home to 366,000 people, and approximately 10% are age 65 and older. These seniors can enjoy socializing events and free wellness programs at The Magnolia or one of 26 other senior centers throughout Tarrant County. As part of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, Arlington offers seniors many exciting opportunities for activities, such as the plays and shows at the Levitt Pavilion. The Crystal Canyon Natural Area provides a gorgeous background for active seniors to hike or take a pleasant drive. Because it’s never too late to learn, area seniors can enjoy courses at the University of Texas-Arlington, which offers seniors more than six hours of tuition for free.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.

"Tender Care Home for Adults 1 was nice. That's more of a group home setting. The staff seemed very knowledgeable. It's very neat and clean. I liked the fact that they had all the women in one house. It wasn't mixed with male and female. The lady was very nice and was willing to work with my mother if she went back from the hospital. It's a three- or four-bedroom house. It's pretty large with a nice-sized backyard, and they have a nice sitting area. She had it pretty well upgraded."

"I'm in Emerson South Collins. They have a lot of people in here who should be in assisted living, but that's my personal opinion. What I like best are the people and the staff. Everybody's friendly. They look out for each other. The staff is also very caring. It's institutional food. The structure is old, but they're upgrading it constantly. They're getting ready to start again on the third floor. Every morning, there's a coffee and conversation. There's an exercise. They have seven activities a day. They have a book club, bingo, card club, and dominoes. I like my room. It's great. I have a one-bedroom, and it's perfect for me."

"I went to visit Morada Pantego. The grounds were well-kept. When you walked in, there was no clutter or anything of that nature. It looked very nice. One staff member toured with me and showed me one of the rooms. They were very nice and pleasant. They liked what they did. The dining area was nice. It wasn't crowded. You didn't feel like you had to sit very close together. The room was nice; I did get to see that. For one person, it was great."

"I toured Brookdale Pecan Park. It was a larger unit and it had three separate buildings. One was for memory care, one for assisted living where they needed assistance with everything, and the third building was for people that had just moved in so they had some assistance but they didn't necessarily need it, they still drove. Brookdale was larger and had a dining room for each building. Their physical therapy area was much larger. They had more area for them to do and they had the same plan with the meals. If you don't like the main one, there was always a menu, the day before you just circle what you wanted when you came to the dining hall. You tell them, today I wanted a cheeseburger and French fries and they brought it to your table. Angel was one of the staff that led us around on the tour. Angel was exceptional. They have a promotion going on this month. It's not for a one-month thing. It's for the duration of his stay there. It's a percentage off. She was also very knowledgeable about the VA information. I toured before I took my mom back a second time and Juan was the one who took us through. He was pretty knowledgeable and very pleasant, informed us of a few things that Angel did not talk about, the outings where they load them up in the buses once or twice a month, and then go to Walmart to go shopping. They vote every week on what they would like to do, whether they want to go to the zoo or Walmart, or they want to eat dinner at a restaurant, and then whatever the most popular is they'll try to accommodate as long as the weather agrees."

"My mother-in-law moved into Carver Heights Estates Senior Living. It was a very clean, beautiful atmosphere. They had the room she wanted, which she wanted, a separation of bedroom and living area, and they were able to provide that. The staff seemed very nice and accommodating to all of her needs. I have not tried the food, but she hasn't had many complaints about it. They have activities all the time. She has participated in some. As for the value, it's a fair price."

"The Waterford on Cooper seemed to be fine and nice. I wouldn't say anything negative. It just had a little small odor, and that's about it. The lady that I had dealt with was excellent at explaining everything and showing me how everything worked in the facility. She showed me two different rooms. One was an efficiency that didn't really have a lot of stuff in there."

"My mom moved to Morada Lake Arlington, and the big deciding factor was that I have a special needs brother, and he was able to find a place there with her as well. They were able to get a two-bedroom unit within the facility. All of their activities and the super welcoming environment have been great and accommodating for both my mom and brother. They have everything they both need, which makes things extra great because he's not a senior citizen. So, him being able to still reside with her and have a lot of engaging activities and stuff going on was a big selling point. My mom and brother say the food is fantastic."

"My mother-in-law is in here. I visited several places and when I went in, everyone was very nice and cordial, but for some reason, that place just gave me the impression that they were all very caring. For one thing, it wasn't just the fact they were caring. It was the residents there that made me feel at home also. They all would just pass by me and start talking to me. That impressed me more than anything as far as the rest of them. All of the people just were so, so friendly, the staff, residents, everyone. That's how my mother-in-law is. She talks to everyone and I said she will love this place and she does. They provide three meals a day and snacks during the daytime. I ate with her the first night and we had an awesome meal of barbecued chicken wings and it was awesome. She goes at least to two meals a day. She chose a studio because she doesn't really have a lot and she absolutely loves that she has a backdoor that goes to a patio. That sold her as much as the people being so sweet and so nice. They have exercise classes and they have all kinds of games. Her main thing was they do have a church service on Wednesday. Even last night when I went to visit her, she made me take a bite of her taco salad and it was good. Everything looks really good. I visited several of the rooms too, and they were all really nice."

"We chose Meadowbrook Memory Care Community for my mom because it's very pretty and very attractive. There's a very high number of caregivers to patients too. They have a sensor in her room that when she gets out of bed, they immediately get notified and come and help her because she does need help. It's extremely clean, and it always smells nice. The food is pretty good. Overall, the care that she's receiving is very high quality. They have very nice people. She moved in about 3 months ago now. We saw their food and the dining place was very attractive. The first day she had breakfast there, she said it was very good. They have a lot of activities and exercises. It's designed for people with Alzheimer's, which she has, so they're experts in that. We are surprised that she is joining in the activities. We didn't expect that but she is and she likes it."

"The tour here was very nice. They have very nice rooms. I was really hoping that the actual apartment had an outside door that went to a courtyard or something, but they don't have that. But they had a lot of outside areas where you could go out. The staff was very good. The facility was very clean. When we went in they had some water damage, but they were redoing the floor. It's a little hard to tell people how to get there because it's off Interstate 20. They offer three meals a day and snacks."

"I toured Avalon Memory Care - Arlington 7200 for my mom. It is very beautiful. Everybody was very friendly. I love the atmosphere and the view. I liked the people and also there were several workers for the number of people that were there. I saw a lot more staff there, workers just being around and coaching the elderly and all that kind of stuff versus the other place I saw, where I did not see very many workers. But that doesn't mean they weren't in rooms or something. But this place, they were all playing a game at a table, and they had everyone there and they had all the workers around them. So, it's like one worker per every three people or whatever to help this game at the table. It was perfect and just wonderful. They're all happy. You could tell everyone loved their job."
