Arlington is a city in the state of Texas that forms part of the Mid-Cities region alongside Dallas and Fort Worth. The city has a population of about 400,000, and 10.4% of residents are over the age of 65. Seniors in the city have access to medical care at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, which is a teaching hospital that’s rated as high performing in one procedure by U.S. News & World Report. According to the Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020, the average cost of nursing care in Arlington for a semiprivate room is $5,171 per month. This is significantly less than the national average of $7,756.
Nursing home care provides 24/7 medical care and assistance for seniors with chronic health conditions. This type of care can be very expensive, and family members may want to consider other options if this type of assistance is not required for their loved one. Family members can look at home care and assisted living as cheaper alternatives.
This guide looks at the costs of nursing home care and related services in Arlington and surrounding cities.

I had a friend in Town Hall Estates. The room was small and cramped, but I think that’s true of probably most places. She was in the nursing home, and she was there for hospice. I was impressed with it for what she was there for and what I saw as far as the care. The nurses and staff were visible to anybody. There was a nurse station so you know that you can find a nurse immediately, which was great. They also had extra food out in the dining room so you could go and get a snack for your friend.
There were two people in a room, but I think they have private rooms, too. My friend I was visiting was in a double room. The nurse was very responsive to what I needed and whatever needed to be done. However, the facility was older.

My mother has already been placed in Interlochen Health and Rehab Center. Our experience has been fine. She’s been there now for a little bit, and I am having to communicate back and forth with the staff to help her get adjusted. All is well. The staff has been very helpful. Since I have not been able to go into the place and help my mom set up, they’ve been very helpful with emails and phone calls to work with the family. They’ve been very good. I would suggest they work with the family more to see what the patient needs ahead of time before assuming, because with COVID we couldn’t go inside the facility.
There were some issues in the very beginning where my mom’s room was not set up the way it was supposed to be and everything. It was the next day that I discovered that her bed had not had her sheets on. Had the nursing staff met with me prior to her being admitted, we could’ve worked together to have a better flow of setup for my mom’s room. So far, I’m pleased with the interaction that I’m having with the staff. They’re working well with the family, answering my questions, and responding to my concerns. I’m rating them so high because they get right back to me immediately with concerns that I have, they respond quickly to my emails and phone calls, so they’re working well with the family to help to get my mother adjusted.

No response to call button or front desk phones for 30 minutes responding to my mother’s calls for help due to a male, disoriented patient coming into and staying in her room for the entire thirty minutes with no response. With her eye swollen closed due to infection the brought her a word search book for her social activity. Really.

My grandmother was recently sent here for rehab. And what an absolutely horrible experience she had. I am appalled by the “care” they give to patients there and I say the term care lightly. My grandmother text me multiple times that she called for help to get cleaned up and no one came for hours or would go in and turn the light off and not do anything to help her. So many times she would text me and I would go up there and get her cleaned up and just about the time I was done here comes the CNA. The excuses I was given are that they are short staffed. Only to find the nurse at the end of the hall watching tv and not helping what so ever. This is completely unacceptable and I fear for the people that don’t have family that can come and help them. The DON at the facility was requested to come change my grandmothers PICC line dressing after it was found with a folded up piece of gauze over the top of the dressing that was no longer intact. Off the jump he broke his sterile field when his gloves broke. Do you think he went and got new gloves? Nope. Continued on changing the dressing. I spoke with the DON about the events of the prior night and was told that the door to the end of the hallway would be closed. Next day…..same exact thing. I had my grandmother moved to an inpatient rehab that day after being told by Taylor the social worker that “it could take several days” she was kindly informed that it would be happening today. And it did. This facility is an absolute disgrace and in my professional opinion needs a very thorough visit from the state. I’ve been a nurse for 18 years and have never seen the amount of neglect of patients than I saw at this facility. I wouldn’t send my dog here. This facility seems to be extremely poorly run and needs to be swept from administration down.

***BEWARE***IF YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS, DO NOT SEND THEM HERE***
My mother was transfered to this rehabilitation center from Mid Cities Fort worth hospital as she was recovering from pneumonia but still having difficulty breathing. We were very concerned from the beginning regarding their Covid-19 practices due to her also being a cancer patient and reached out to them prior but with good response. Upon arriving, my mother was transported to a room and left for three hours without anybody checking on her. Her "help" button did not work and may have needed battery replacement. The entire time she could hear screaming and crying coming from multiple patients throughout the clinic. An elderly lady in the room next to her had fell and not only pushed the panic alarm, but was also screaming for help. It took a little over an hour for anybody to go check on the elderly lady. The "employees" spent 45 minutes cleaning up her scrapes and told her, "we will be back to check on you tomorrow." The elderly lady began to scream telling them she is in pain and she feels that she may have broken her ribs. The employees continued to just tell her they will check on her tomorrow. Finally an "employee" serving dinner noticed my mother in the room and asked if she had eaten. When she replied no, the lady then walked into a room next to her and grabbed a food plate that belonged to another patient which did not eat their own food, however, the grilled cheese and oatmeal was cold from sitting out in their room. After she reached out to us, and we made a complaint with the front desk, an "employee" made their rounds to check on her (remember she is here for having complications breathing) They offered her a new plate which my mother responded she would rather them check on the poor lady next door that is screaming in agony and was refused additional help. Immediately they entered the ladies room and informed her they will call an ambulance to transfer her for x-rays at the hospital. At this time my mother called us again to demand us take her out of this place. My father immediately rushed to the unit to have her released, yet she was not even registered in the system yet (after 4 hours). While he was sitting outside for 45 minutes as they tried to harass my mother into staying, he met another lady outside who was experiencing the same outcome from her daughter who was 31 and suffering from spinal cancer. This poor lady who suffers from immobility was in this rehabilitation center for 1.5 hours without a single person checking on her. This place should be shut down immediately- it is an old, dirty place that anybody who cares for their family should never keep them there! We will be reporting to anyone that will listen. SAVE YOUR LOVED ONES AND GET THEM OUT!!!!

My mom is still in rehab at Parkwood in Bedford, and she’s in the Covid unit right now. She’s been there for about six weeks or maybe even closer to two months. She has been in the independent living side, and she has an apartment there. She had some friends over there, so that’s where we put her for rehab. We really don’t know if she’ll be able to go back to her apartment or not. My mother loves the staff a lot and she doesn’t really want to go anywhere else, but I would have to say that the upper management has not been very forthcoming with us and we have felt frustrated at times though I know they have a lot of people to take care of. The staff that takes care of my mother is very nice and she likes them a lot, so they must treat her very nicely. She says she likes the food though I’ve never seen it. The facility is nice and clean and when she was in the rehab, she had a big window that she could stay at, and she really liked that.

She is being rushed to the nearest hospital and I pray she survives. The medic who transported her told the family it would be in there best interest to make sure she does not return there. They have been there on many occasions for cardiac arrest and they have lied about the patients conditions.
They have lied about the multiple burses on her body as well as a puncture on her back, which they are blaming on her Kidney doctor. Per the Kidney doctor they did and do not do any type of procedures in their office. They have allowed her to fall and have lied about how it happened. If you want your loved ones cared for and to live, please do not send them here. We will be filing a formal complaint with the state as well.

Avoid this place at all costs if your family member will need extensive care. My mother is a non-verbal stroke survivor. She is paralyzed on her right side and she is incontinent. The care she received here was beyond horrible. We photographed and videoed our experience so that it was well documented. They are understaffed and of those, are less than stellar.
They will lie about the quality of your service, your ability to have access to the case manager to have your questions reviewed and access to cameras to observe the care being administered.
My mom had a huge bruise on her arm from someone aggressively grabbing her either to change her or draw blood. They had no explanation for it. Again, we photographed our mom everyday and made sure to be on hand to be her advocate since she was non-verbal.
She was left soiled and wet on several occasions. Because we my sister and I were completely disgusted with their ineptness, we would refuse their help if we were there.
My sister is an RN and so we were working from an informed place. My mom was lucky because she had us.
I was able to observe a person that had fallen once out of her wheelchair and once from her bed.
Each time she was calling down an empty hall for assistance. The first time I ran to find someone. The second time a staff person came a few minutes after she started calling to help her up from the fall out of the bed.
I heard more than one patient screaming for help, observed more than one wandering into my mom’s room, and had one gentleman continually ask me for a phone so he could call the main office.
My mom’s primary nurse was completely disengaged. We had to ask about my mom’s vitals and I/O.
The case manager became so overwhelmed with my questions that she actually told me that “I don’t have time to stand here answering all of these questions” when they were about my getting a double dose of a narco medicine within the specified time period.
My mom is feed by a pump. Upon admission they didn’t have one for her so we provided ours from home.
Because we were specific about my mom’s care, we provided the supplies to take care of her so they wouldn’t have to expend extra supplies for her.
They barely used them because they don’t care if your family members skin breaks down. They don’t do ANYTHING to prevent bedsores or skin tears.
I could go and on but I will say that if you love your family member, DO NOT PLACE THEM HERE.

Pecan Manor accepts a variety of payments including Medicaid which most of these places do not, which I understand. It looks like a nursing facility, which gave us a little set back at first because it was really hard for my two daughters to acknowledge that their father needed to be in a nursing facility. However, the first thing that impressed me was their staff. I went there eight different times before we decided, and I went there sometimes unannounced, but I never once saw anyone who was short-tempered with the residents or any of that. They are extremely pleasant, loving, and smiling. They’re caring for my husband physically. Every time I go there, he has been kept clean. Also I rarely walked through the front door with them not hugging me. It’s been a good experience given our circumstances. The staff is mostly younger staff and they’re loving to the residents. They also have lots of activities like bingo and even for residents who can’t really comprehend how to do that any longer, they help them so that they can feel like they’re playing. They also have entertainment that comes in for them.

My husband was in rehab at The Pavilion at Creekwood. Their physical therapy department was excellent. The nurses or aides were very good. I was very pleased. The facility was beautiful. It was fairly new, and it was very attractive. The food was not that great. They should have better food and better selections. They served the food in Styrofoam, and that didn’t keep it warm as it should have. The facility was very modern, very attractively decorated, and very clean. There was no nursing home smell or anything. It was a beautiful facility.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Arlington, Texas
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
